I agree, the Primus logo for the last two years was good because it didn't take over the jumper too much. I'm sure that it was simply a case of just getting a logo on the jumper so that they could go get them made as quick as they could.

I heard on SEN news this morning that Melbourne are to change the blue in their gurneys to an even darker blue - described as "almost black."

On a related note, I received an email from the club today about a Megastore Sale, and the red clash strip (with the demon on the front) is reduced from $109 to $79.

Does that mean we're phasing it out? I quite like it. Prefer wearing just red and blue as opposed to the white strip we've got.

It probably just means that there will be an updated version of that jumper next year. The same design, but new jumper.

True but they change the jumpers every time and the bombers have had there colours and sash from day one, also have more money and poitical power so all i can say is it better be dark blue

This probably has no baring what so ever with our situation but the Adelaide Crows have launched their new guernseys with Reebok - the contract finishes at the end of 2012. Seems a bit odd as Adidas (their previous sponsor) likes the big profile clubs but then again Adidas own Reebok anyway.

With a darker, more traditional guernsey you'd think that whoever we get would be happy as their logo would stand out more. I've read comments that our contract with Reebok expires so hopefully the new guernsey lands a big fish.

I'm not sure that Reebok contract is expiring, I hope it is because I really don't rate their football gear (pet hate of mine). I like the Adidas jumpers much more, even with their weird little circles around the neck.

Agree with both points. Reebok's jumper has those stupid 'flaps' at the front and back, which seemt to me to do nothing but provide opposition players with easy spots to grab on to when tackling. Adidas' jumpers seem to fit the body much tighter and are even at the bottom.

Yeah I'd like to know too. I think the sponsor makes and provides all the gear, and there is a financial deal involved too, but I don't really understand it.

I'm not sure if every sponsorship is the same, but most apparel sponsors don't pay the club, they simply make the products for them and receive a cut from the profits of selling the products.

This is why we get stuck with Reebok (no offense to Reebok :D), and big clubs like Collingwood and Carlton get Nike and Adidas. More members, more sales, more money for the sponsors.

Mind you, smart sponsors would look at the general supporter base of a club and try to align their own brand with the appropriate supporter group. It's unlikely that Puma will sponsor Collingwood for example.

Because Puma is more of a fashion-oriented lifestyle brand in Australia, and does not consider itself to be an elite performance brand.

Have a look at who they sponsor and you can work out where they want to position themselves in the market.
