Has anyone else heard this. At the VFL GF I heard it was a done deal Daniel Wells for pick 11 and a player.

We know he has had a hard time at the Kangaroos and believes our indigenous environment is the new start he needs.

Is it that time of year already? The Wells-Davey connection thread has arrived.

Hmmm. It's not the worst thing I've heard of. If someone said to me Wells for McLean I'd have thought about it.

He's a year older, which is an issue, and if our 4-6 year window is true he probably won't play a part. Also, who's the "player?"

Another way to think about it... It's Wells and 1 less player on the list vs whoever you think we'll take with 11. ie... Temel vs Wells?

I'd do seriously consider it. I've always liked Wells, would offer alot more than that ONE PACE BOGAN McLean.

You must be kidding. Injured more than he plays AND all potential, no delivery.

Reputedly North's top player payment wise - I can see why they want to get rid of him.

Probably just a fantasy post.

don't play down mclean. he was one of our best players and for an inside player has some of the best foot skills you could ask for. This is the 2nd coming of Scott thompon. screwed over with that, screwed over with this.

I don't know about this one. It just doesn't feel right.

Although I'm no expert on how the system works, it seems to me that the "deal" you've come up with is heavily skewed in favour of North Melbourne.

Wells is a year older than McLean and probably a slightly better footballer but has had massive injury problems over the past couple of years. He constantly breaks down and on that basis I would rate him as "high risk" and in no way would he be worth a first round pick plus a player.

Possibly pick 18 would be a reasonable exchange.

Don't see why we'd do it. I'm going to treat this as BUMF until further notice.

Maclean has missed 28 games in 5 seasons with leg injuries as well as large chunk of pre seasons. There has to a query over whether he can avoid leg injuries for the sustained periods required to build the endurance he requires to perform at his best. There is no escaping the fact that he was mediocre this year. He looked slow and his disposal was ordinary.

He will not be traded to melbourne, not needed. He wont be needed when Melbourne and its young list peak.

On the up side, he has been friends with Davey for quite some time. Those two together who be lethal

Unfortunatly, i'd rather a kid play than Wells next year.

This one comes up every year. Considering his output was nil this year, I wonder why bother to mention it.

HAHAHAHA a lot of people complained about McLean and his injuries, I would hate to hear them if we got Wells, not only injured but he is lazy, should have kept TJ if we wanted a skillful lazy footballer.

Wells has skills, but is largely overrated and is on a worst list than ours.

Would the dees trade for him? Perhaps, but given that we just lost brock I think they will wait to see what happens trade week before agreeing to such a deal.

Wells would be also earning a packet, maybe a good idea to sit this one out and hope buygoyne slips to us for free. better to have a few extra dollars sitting around just in case the dawks and flower cant strike up a deal.

Posted
wells is 25 next year...mclean is 24 next year...why should we get wells? we should of tried harder to keep mclean

Well, I'm not at all condoning a trade for Wells, but he and Brock are very very different types of players.

Posted

well if wells is determined to join our club, and a trade cannot be reached, maybe he will slip through to the psd if hes not happy at north

dont mind wells although very injury prone and inconsistent, i would say pick 18 and a player because he hasnt shown alot yet this would be more realistic! :)

Posted

If Melbourne give up pick 11 for Wells I'll be bloody angry. If he wants to come to Melbourne then it can be via the psd, otherwise I wouldn't waste a pick on him. If we're going to use pick 11 for a trade then it should only be someone who is young and good enough to be a starting 18 player.

Unless whoever's in charge of Melbourne's trading falls asleep and the Kangaroos get him to agree to the trade Weekend at Bernie's style, there is no way this could be allowed to happen. You do not trade away for pick 11 and then spend it (and a player) on a flaky, overrated, injury prone 25 year old. Pick 11 should be spent on a key forward unless something extremely special presents itself.

I'd be willing to trade pick 11 for Trent Cotchin, Travis Boak, Matt Leuenberger or Ben McEvoy.

Precious few others.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
