Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Brock McLean has left the building

Theoretically, that would be Brad Miller.

I can't remember McLean's efforts in finals other than the magical St. Kilda final - his best career game. I'm ok with pick 11 for Brock, just not with the glee players seem to have at leaving the club.

glee? where is this glee evidenced?

And in my mind it is all about money

I can't have it either that players would be upset over the CJ incident, that to me is ridiculous. They are well paid professional athletes, small incidents like that probably happen in non professional teams all over the country in all sports, and i doubt they would cause major rifts.

Completely agree with this.

Unless he tried to go at him with a baseball bat, it sounds a little over the top and if true, the players should step out of the bellarina costumes and harden up.

Stuff like that would happen at my old footy clubs and it would only serve to strengthen you to your club. Johnson came back after he'd already asked to leave, it's not like he played for the club and Bailey told him to f.off and then CJ left.

Just couldn't see Davey doing it (though I said the same about Brock). He already lives in the same city as his brother and has played at the Dees for over 5 seasons as a club's favourite son. He has an important role as a mentor and is a respected leader at the club.

If he was to leave, I would have serious concerns.

If Aussie would leave the club for Davey leaving, then there are serious issues over him.

Will he not be able to play if Davey doesn't?

This goes far beyond football ability and you know that.

These indigenous boys who come from remote territories are all supremely talented but sometimes have their careers stall because they struggle to adjust to the lifestyle and the separation from their community.

Aussie will remain the same player with or without Davey, but he may struggle to remain in Victoria and live this lifestyle without the support of his brothers. We might not understand that, but it's a bond that has really helped Davey, Aussie and obviously Jurrah.

what people don't realize is that this will hurt carlton in the long term. They were probably going to use pick 11 on a tall forward. Fev is getting old. The up coming compromised drafts will make it even harder for them to secure a key forward. I don't really see how this is a good move by them. They already have one of the best up and coming midfield's in the comp. They don't need Mclean. I see Kruzer as a ruckman, not a Key forward. so i don't know what they are going to do once Fev is gone.

I don;t see why people are so upset about Brock leaving anyway. He wasn't going to be one of our starting midfielders in the next few years anyway and i think he knew that. Pick 11 is a good result as now we can secure another quality tall, the last piece of the puzzle.

Yeah I understand that Jaded.

I'll restate my position. I'm not giving you Bennel and Jetta. Benny and the Jets have each other and will be fine.

And Aussie and Jurrah will be fine because Davey is not leaving this club.

I suppose I haven't reached your level of detachment, I still actually enjoy supporting players as individuals, as well as the club.

You obviously don't feel the same, lucky you.

I'm shattered, especially since Brock will be going to f'ing Carlton!!!!! :(

Agree, as a supporter i can help but feel attached. :(

Well. I'm gonna have to change my name then. I'm gonna make sure it's not a player this time cause I'm clearly cursed. What a difference a year makes, second in the B&F playing about half the year touted as captain the recruiters said that they wanted midfielders to help out McLean now he's been sacked.

I'm disappointed but not surprised in the end probably one of either McLean, Moloney or Jones had to go I thought it would be Jones but I suppose McLean has the most currency.

I may have to rethink our chances for the 8. I don't think Moloney and Jones have the football brain to step up a level to be very good footballers next year while I thought McLean would the rest are babies in Scully, Trengrove (has to be a certainty for pick 2 now) and Grimes.

With the way McLean played this year I think pick 11 would be the best outcome we could get but to go to Carlton is a bit of a surprise they all ready have a good midfield with Judd, Murphy and Gibbs he's not really needed I would of thought that they would be better off looking for a key back or key forward. I think the club is becoming a bit too obsessed with the draft. Time will tell if they have done the right thing, don't do a Cameron and Fark this up Prendagast.

Harsh, the only thing that has happened as of yet, is that McLean has left when the footy club wanted him to stay and we got a good pick for him.

Surely he'd have to have a degree of loyalty to the club that gave him a chance? I know I would. He'd been passed over as too small and only one club was willing to give him a shot. That's got to be a factor now that he's shown what he can do.

great!

for years ive almost hated mclean because this forum!

he was so over hyped it was CRAZY!

i have wanted him to be traded for many years..i however didnt think he would leave at this stage of his career but WOW!

i thought he was a real football romantic and would deff try stay a 1 club player.

the fact that he requested really makes me interested to hear the full story.

His service has been good, he has done some wrong things and some really great things (10k)

Sadly he will not really be missed

I am sad about this, but I can see how it's happened.

As others have intimated, I think Brock has seen our recruiting aims as a vote of no confidence - where would he fit into a midfield with Scully, Trengove, Jones etc in 3 year's time?

I wish Brock the best of luck, and despite the fact that he's gone to the biggest bunch of cheats in the world, I hope he finds some finals success that he deserves, just in time before the Dees dominate and win a flag. Carlton with Brock a flag in 2011... Melbourne a flag in 2012. No hard feelings for anyone.

Thanks Brock, for some inspirational stuff along our journey.

Not money. Game-time. Where do you have Brock in our midfield in 2 years? I think most have him at Casey. It's a good move if he can cement a spot, even if it is with Carlton.

Brock will easily make carlton's starting midfield, and they actually have a midfield. I cannot understand how demonlanders come to this conclusion with the list we have.

but the point is moot anyway

Ok i will not reveal my source - you would not believe it... The very same source has said the following .. Davey wants out - to play with his brother, the players as a group have no idea what the game plan is and there is much anger about the C.J send off. I know i will not be believed but it was the same conversation about brock. We will have to work hard to keep Flash.

I don't want too believe, Not Davey !! If this happens we have very deep problems !!

We don't really know the ins and outs of it, but the fact that the deal to Carlton has already been done tells me that Carlton were obviously into him early, probably telling him all the things that many posters have been writing here, about where his long term standing will be in our midfield and what they could offer him.

So he goes to the club has a chat with them, and they rightly can't give him any assurances as to his playing future. Brock says bye-bye MFC, hello Carlton.

That's my read on the situation anyway.

There is also the suspected rift between himself and DB, and the history between himself, Ratten and Riley.

Even if it's a brilliant move, it sets our return to finals back. Even if all the players taken between '07 and '09 are rippers, it means the EARLIEST we come good is 2012.

I think that's the earliest we'll be a legit contender regardless of whether we had McLean.

The cream of our crop isn't with players from the McLean 'generation' (to use that term very loosely), it's with younger guys.

This draft is also probably our last crack at drafting a promising young tall that will develop quickly enough to be a force while guys like Frawley are at their peak.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
