2009 Player Review - # 8 James Frawley

James Frawley – We were really happy with James' development this year. The key to it was that he had a good summer and put on some size. He's a really strong kid and it was great to see him play on some really good players – like smaller marking forwards such as Jason Porplyzia and Brett Ebert and talls Nick Riewoldt and Brendan Fevola. We think he's going to be a fantastic player for us. The next stage of his development will be to play on the most dangerous opposition forwards week in, week out - Sean Wellman on Melbournefc.com.au

This one is an easy one.

MFC's Most Improved 2009

agree- will be very interesting to see if he plays full back next year or on the half back line again. He has become flexible as a player and could indeed still play on a wing, such as against Richardson- if needed. Just shows howmuch we have to be patient with talls as some have wanted his head before this year.

Dare I say it, reminds me of a bigger version of Andrew Raines. Has that aggressive speed and hardness to his game, as well as an average kick. Unlike Rains he is a very good defender who can stop his opponents and play on a variety of player types. Is 21 now and has developed a good game which he should develope each year.

One of three reasons that I watched the footy every week despite the fact that the result was nearly always a foregone conclusion.

Fantastic development year. Can't wait to see how he goes next year, though knowing our luck he'll develop stress fractures in his foot now.

The best thing about Frawley is that he is a 'gorilla-tamer' with a desire to be involved in the counter-attack.

He won't sit back like Presti and allow his team to attack a man short, he will take players on give a handball in traffic, or take one under pressure run 20m and kick it 50m.

Will be even better when we can restrict the amount of ball he sees.

People were questioning James Frawley's size. That he won't be big/strong enough to play FB.

He was always going to fill out his frame. Same as Jack Watts. He won't be as powerful as James but he's got a decent frame which will fill out. Anyone who remembers Nick Riewodlt in 2000 draft camp will see a white hair baby giraffe.

Can remember watching him in a few of the Zebby games and thinking...oh oh... .. a potential NQR here.. but hes really come on. Well done Frawley :) And I think he still has quite a bit of improvement yet. A rare highlight in the year.

Chip took huge strides in his development this year, and with reasonable luck injury-wise, will be one of the mainstays of our defence for years to come. Well done Chipper!!

He's nothing like Raines

Got quite a bit of Frawley about him. Reminds me of O'Keefe in the amount he bleeds Red and Blue.

I'm a big Frawley fan, have been since his first few games. Love the way he attacks the game and backs himself.

Yeah look, you're really grasping at straws with the Raines comparison. Sorry.

He reminds me a lot of James Frawley though.

He reminds me of raines in some ways, full stop.

Raines is slow. I will take into account that your from Adelaide. You may as well write that Davey reminds you of Sandilands that is how stupid that comparison is.

I am from Victoria. Raines is very quick.....Is that a chip I see on your shoulder ;)

I could never understand why so many MFC supporters didn't like this guy. Watched him closely during his 1st preseason and I compared him to a young Scarlett with his closing speed and willingness to push forward and break lines. His kicking skills still require a little polish but he understands the game well and is 100% team orientated. One of my absolute favourites.

Still heaps of scope for improvement in him and I want to see him mentioned as a potential All-Australian next year. Could see him averaging over 20 possessions from FB/CHB.

Frawley is case in point as to why you/we/all have to give some of these kids a few good preseasons and some decent plays time to see where they are really at. hey..am as guilty as the next

having said that some kids just wont make it... CHIPS will :)

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
