Just interested in everybodys thoughts as to who will win the best 1st year player. Think it has to go Jurrah although Bennell and Jetta have shown a bit also.

Jurrah!!

..but Bennell will be a gun! Jetta showed some good signs.. and of course Watts didnt get much chance and needs to put on a few more pounds!

I voted Jamie Bennell.

Take nothing away from Jurrah, as an MFC fan I am as excited as the rest of you about LJ. Bennell however, played more games and was able to show alot of consistency in a backline under constant pressure for most of the year. He had some tough jobs over the year and I thought he fought well.

By the way, why is Jack Watts included in the poll?

Three way race between Bennell, Jetta and LJ.

LJ should win because he has been able to impact games and show his freakish talent,

but Jamie and Nev have show glimpses in becoming top players.

Posted

Depends on whether the award is for games played and impact rather than potential. If its the first then Bennell. If its future and potential then its LJ!

Watts did play 3 games so he does fall into being eligable. Appology to Cheney, McNamara and Spencer for not including them in the poll, I thought the award was for the new draftees only, didn't realise it was for the year you make you debut.

jurrah. We still have Blease, Strauss and more of JW next year to enjoy. Plus scully etc.

good days ahead for the red & blue

Jurrah without a doubt. What an excitement machine! You just know he's going to do something special every time the ball gets near him. Hopefully he continues his excellent goalscoring form as well next year. Exciting times ahead.

For me Jurrah deserves the award as recognition for the tremendous work he has put in to overcome so many obstacles and have a serious impact in his first 9 games.

From what I understand the club wasn't planning on giving him much game time this year, but to his credit Jurrah forced their hand to debut and then select him each and every week when fit.

JURRRRAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH.

Jurrah may not have played more games than bennell but he had more impact.

Overheard a couple of under 18 EFL players saying they had got a "Jurrah Cut" haircut. Actually it looked good on em too!

Jurrah is, by a street, our best 1st year player. He entertains as well as plays, exciting footy.

I think it's going to be impossible to get near him at family day as everyone will be flocking around him! That's if he's there.

I voted Bennell, but would not surprise one bit if LJ got it. Both equally deserve it in my mind, but have a feeling Jurrah will get it. He's irresistable...

I'm a fan of all of them, but LJ was clearly the standout. His skill and similarly natural football brain is one of the great stories to come out of our long season.

Interestingly the players nominated Jamie Bennell as out best first year player for the ALFPA awards.

Whilst i voted for LJ would not at all be surprised to see Jamie take home the award at the B&F.

I think Jurrah. He was just amazing and left me breathless on many occasions this season with his kicking and vertical leap. But Bennell was a great find at pick 35 and looks like he will be a more than handy player for us.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
