Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I'd just like to say I'm glad I'm a Demons supporter as opposed to a Hawthorn supporter.

They have just recently, in my eyes, shown that unsociable football undoubtedly breeds [censored] people and a [censored] culture.

Recent successes be damned - I'm glad I'm a member of a club that has some semblance of integrity.

I like the fact we don't look elsewhere to find excuses.

That club reeks from top to bottom.

I have no problem with playing the game hard or not being not liked - but I am much more content that we are producing young men of character and will not likely have to endure such a petulant display from our players in the near future.

So you are happy to be a supporter of a club that has not one a premiership for decades and they have been a dominant force for 30 years? One weekend does not undo all the success they have had.

Yeah, but they've still got Jeff Kennett. The head of the "Beyond Blue" organisation was singularly responsible for more depression than anyone in our state's history. His antics last Saturday say so much about his fundamental character.

Lots of money

Money doesn't buy happiness and just imagine hanging out with 49,999 Hawthorn supporters. I'll stick with the Demons, yes it's painful but I love it

The club is a strong and powerful club, the current premier, but it had a horrible weekend. I am sure that those rational members of the club would be ashamed of last weekend and accept that it has tarnished Hawthorn in the eyes of the football world.

I would imagine that a few members of their Board would be taking steps to ensure no repeat performance.

PS. I would cop their membership numbers, financial position and recent premiership.

Never had a problem with Hawthorn as a club

They have had their thugs like everyone else

Not a kennet fan but at least he gets things done just like eddie

Well I'd much rather follow Melbourne because it's Melbourne, and I am Melbourne, and I always will be Melbourne, even if we don't win a premiership in my lifetime, or if make the finals once a decade. Every heart beat is true.

I beg to differ. In the AFL money does buy you happiness. I would be ecstatic to hang out with 49,999 Melbourne supporters each week if we had that many!

Careful!

Let’s just worry about our own back garden, who cares what any other club does when it does not effect us.

We have not won a premiership in 45 years, they have won 8? in this time.

We are in debt, they were financially ruined and are now are a financial power house with 50000 members. Wealth goes a long way to breeding success in the AFL. (Sorry lefties, its just a fact).

They have a culture of ruthlessness that allowed them to trade for draft picks get Roughead and Buddy and win a premiership last year.

Personally I a jealous of Hawthorn’s success and I can’t understand how any other MFC member could not be. After all it was not long ago we nearly took them over. Since then we have gone on life support and they have won a premiership and become a powerhouse. If they can do it we can do it.

I am happy that we tanked harder than any other team ever (even harder than Carlton 07) to get draft picks this year, this remorseless, ruthless display is something the MFC has never shown in my life time and is something that you would expect from teams like Hawthorn, Carlton, West Coast............. hang on............. all these teams have won multiple premierships in my life time……...

I am happy, but would have been happier if we started acting like this 30 years ago. Maybe we would have a couple of premierships to boast for it.

Again be careful paying out Hawthorn, we are following in their footsteps.

I Love Melbourne & i have a long memory of hawthorn pain, but i have also witnessed them win 9 of their 10 flags in my lifetime.

They very nearly went out of business, but pulled themselves together. They have the best facilities in melbourne at this point, & 50,000 + members.

Sure their colours are totally hideous, but they are the reigning Premier. Which is something i have not experienced with the Demons as i was one year old in '64.

Hawthorn had a bad week, but if one of our players was taken out like sewell was, i would want our players breathing fire on & off the field to fly the flag in his honour.

I want Melbourne to have the same fierce passion as Hawthorn. (or even more so we beat them regulairly...)

Both good points. 53K.

Will be interesting to see if they back that up next season. I don't doubt that they'll achieve the same fwiw.

Nice reminder for Clarkson from Ian Aitken yesterday regarding the 'Battle Of Brittain' clash. Was he ever this 'angry' (little man syndrome) at Melbourne?

My main point is, team success, membership numbers and revenue aside, that I'm glad we're working on creating young men with a bit of integrity as opposed to petulant mean-spirited c&%ts like Hawthorn.

Winning is everything, but it isn't everything.

The MFC was mighty Ruthless back in the 50's, so who is to say it wouldn't return again. Don't Forget in regard to last week.

Essendon & Hawthorn Hate each other with vengence '89 Final series at Waverly, Brereton walk straight into the Essendon Huddle & fired up Duckworth. That is out there!!

If we have sustained success Melbourne arrogance will follow, it's human nature. (Aussie Cricket Side over 20 years)

Yeah sure, but if we ever get to dishing it out, I'd be really ashamed if we whinge & sook the way that they have when they get a bit of it back. There's an arrogance that comes with strength of character, and an arrogance that's just empty.

Anyway, my favourite comment on the Hawks v Essendon game was from Grant Thomas re: Campbell Brown saying he hoped Lloyd played on.

He said: "For what? He had all game to do something - what is he going to do differently next time?"

(Obviously paraphrasing from my bad and half asleep memory...)

Perfectly pointed out the arrogant stupid 'hard-man' bravado as exactly that.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
