I've got a feeling that if this is true and Jamar wants to leave then we're all going to be a bit surprised with his value on the open market.

I agree that Jamar would have reasonable value but the writer of the OP has first suggested the idea of trading Jamar for boak in a previous post. Now suddenly Jamar wants to go home.

If true, it's a shame that after we've invested years and years in him and he is finally showing us something, that he decides he wants to go home. But I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

If he wants to go, we'll find a suitable trade and he can go.

It's a privilege to play for the MFC, not a right. If you don't want to be here, you shouldn't be.

I agree well said

If jamar is keen to move on and highly rated by port i would consider trying to trade either

Jamar, pick 18 for port's first rounder

or if that isnt sweet enough

Jamar, pick 18 and bell for port's first rounder and perhaps 4th rounder

Jamar, pick 18 and bell for port's first rounder and perhaps 4th rounder

I like that suggestion.

We'd then have picks 1, 2 and approx pick 8 which may allow us to get Butcher if he's still available as a low top 10 pick.

We trade Jamar for something useful - otherwise we risk losing him in the PSD for nothing.

We're able to get Bell (who I consider a list clogger) off the books.

We get a little sweetner in the form of a 4th round draft pick, which we could then on-trade in a last minute deal.

I'd also make enquires into Brett Ebert and Justin Westhoff. Ebert seems to be on the outer after a great 2007.

I'm not surprised Port rate Jamar. He beat Port's Lade/Brogan duo in round 15.

I just hope this is all just BS.

So do I, if we are serious about being a team in contention in 3 years time then we need experienced big guys. We should do all that we reasonably can to keep Jamar around, and if we trade him away he will leave a big hole that I don't think any of PJ, Martin, Meesen or Spencer can fill.

just as anaside, when folks are debating or calculating the worth of X or Y player keep in mind the pick we get in exchange may not end up being the one we use as it in turn may be retraded( uprgaded ) . Also the various packaging of players and picks is often teh go. Jamar for a round 2 might be realistic... Or it might be Jamar and some sort of pick for 'their' player plus a beteer pick etc.

Its not all that straightforward this game of trade ;)

I say just get rid of him, trade or not. I'm surprised the Club showed enough faith to keep him on this year anyway. Has potential, but given far too many lives IMO. I'll never forget when he had that fresh air shot from the goal square at the Punt Road end, remember?

I don't agree with the 'get rid of him' thinking. This year he's really shown alot and would be very handy going forward, my preferance is to keep him but if he does want to go then we should adequate compensation. Obtaining ruckman who can instantly walk in and take over ruck duties are rare.

I must confess i haven't really followed Jamar closely over his career. I have before this year liked PJ but this year Jamar has overtaken him in my eyes anyway. I don't really watch ruckman closely i admit.

Anyway is Jamar always injury prone or has it just been this year? I think a bad year with injury is common in a 10 year career and doesn't always mean a player will continue to have injury concerns.

I've always liked Jamar, despite the long stretch of ordinary performances. I think it would be unfortunate for us if he left now, as I think the injuries this year have masked a good step up.

So, assuming the double scenario of Jamar wanting to go home, and Boak also wanting to go to Carlton... it's starting to sound like we'd be the merchant in some on-trading between Carlton and Port. Boak to the Blues, Jamar, 18 and 35 to Port, we get Blues pick 12ish and 29ish.

Port -

Give Boak

Get Jamar, 18 and 35.

Blues -

Give 12 and 29

Get Boak.

Demons -

Give Jamar, 18 and 35,

Get 12 and 29.

Port are being well compensated for their quality mid taken at pick 5.

Carlton are getting another quality mid at a good price, right on the preferred age group.

We get the extra space on our list to promote Spencer (hopefully a direct replacement) plus 12 goes close to guaranteeing we can pick up one of the handful of quality big men in this draft, where 18 would have been too late for sure, for the truly good prospects. In a shallow draft 29 is a very useful step up from 35, too.

Everyone gets what they want. Best multi-trade ever signed. Gimme a list manangement job, I say :)

I do like that scenario, I'd rather Jamar stay but if he wants out we may aswell make a decent deal out of it. I knew we'd have to let 1 of our ruckmen go at the end of the year. guess Jamar's made the decission easier for Melbourne FC.

Kareem Abdul Jamar needs to stay. In 3 years he'll be playing finals for MFC with his MATES. In 3 years PA will be in re-build phase post Cornes brothers. Mark's manager needs to do the math...

Eh...

We come out 3rd in this scenario. Pick 29(ish) ain't gonna be worth jack in this years draft..

Jamar, 18 and 35 - for T. Boak, is the only deal I'd consider.

Which means we get, Scully - (Trengove?) - Boak - Valenti @ 50

PSD - ?

If Port don't like it, they can work something else out, or lose Boak to us anyway - pick 1, in the PSD..

What's he shown, exactly?

In my scenario, we're advancing BOTH pick 18 to 12 and pick 35 to 29.

It's a pretty damn good improvement of draft position for one player, and is based on the assumption that Port really want a new, strong bodied, ruckman, and that Carlton are really keen to add Boak, and that they can't offer eachother anything much directly.

We're getting a premium as the middleman in that deal.

I understand the concern that picks even late in the second round will be less than gold, but I think that actually makes the shift from 35 to 29 even more useful - might get us into the stronger pool for the remaining players of interest, rather than scraping for possibles. Certainly by pick 5o or 60, I'd be saying 'bugger it, elevate a rookie, keep a PSD pick and see if we can pick out a smoky with the extra weeks of scrutiny'.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
