Changes for next week v Fremantle

They weren't too bad yesterday, IMO. It's not saying much, but Johnson probably played his best game for the season and unlike the last few weeks, he actually attacked the ball. As for Newton, his defensive pressure and kicking at times, was good.

If all these players fit, should make these changes IMO.

IN: Grimes, Jurrah, McLean, Rivers, Watts

OUT: Bail (inj), Bruce (inj?), Miller, Newton, Valenti

Valenti would be stiff, but I feel his role is that of McLean's.

Thoughts???

I think rookie Zomer should be given a chance at full forward.strong mark good kick, has pace for a big bloke.is a better player than martin, and at 20 has more potential than newton at 22 who is as good as he is going to be we need a big power forward

I'd like to ramp things up slowly 'TD'.

We have not got It, in the bag, just yet, PP, so I'd start to start putting things into place slowly through the game next week.

We, IMO need to have a strong side in for Carltoon, this is the next win that I'd like.

I've seen Zomer play many times & thoughts are that he seems to play best as a follower, roaming & following the contests.

He seems to get lost & disinterested when playing key forward.

I don't think his quick at all, when on the turn, certainly not as a forward.

Honestly, we may keep him on for one more, or we may delist, but he's definately Not better than Martin.

I'd move him on, & take another rookie prospect as a tall forward & one as a ruck as well.

So Bruce is one forced change. I guess Bail might be in trouble - anyone else from the Round 19 game unavailable through injury?

Bruce injured his wrist in a collision during the final quarter of the Round 19 game against North Melbourne, with subsequent scans today confirming a fracture to the radius bone of this wrist.

The injury reports from Melbourne are so specific these days :D

 Whatever gave you that impression?

Well, someone's gotta take the responsibility of stating the bleeding obvious, and i'm happy to do it... :P

Hard to call, considering the injuries. I don't really know who's fit and who's not.

Jurrah and Watts should be playing if they're fit. Rivers too. I'd like to see Whelan get his 150 games, so if he's fit he comes in too. McLean may be fit as well. Robertson will get a send-off game, you'd think, and it could be this one.

As for outs, all of Johnson, Newton and Miller deserve to go. We're playing to win, and that means we don't play these 3 hacks. However, I understand that they represent a lot of height, and that we have a lot of injuries. Still, if all the above players are ready to go, all 3 of them should be dropped. Bail and Bruce are under injury clouds. Bail I suspect won't play, Bruce I don't know. If we have to drop someone else, it might be Bartram, who didn't seem to do anything good on the weekend.

So it could be: In: Jurrah, Watts, Rivers, Whelan, McLean

Out: Newton, PJ, Miller, Bail, Bruce

Bail (quad) and Bruce (wrist) certain outs and Cam is out for the rest of the year. No reason to play Brock given his lack of a preseason and Jack Watts has hardly played any sort of fotty for several weeks. Nex 3 weeks should be used to try and get Wheels to 150 if he is fit enough and Robbo should be given a farewell game either against the Shockers or Saints at the G. Club and Robbo need to come out this week and says what is happening with him. If there are any others ending up same applies. If fit should give Buckley 1 or 2 to see where he is at. Otherwise should play those who are playing for their career. If shockers can play as well this week as they did on Sunday MFC will not need to be carefull with selections although given the latest injuries things may well be taking care of themselves and so last 3 games of little concern perhaps.

Bring in Robbo for his swansong at the G! I hope the club announce something soon regarding him in 2010, and I feel a press conference stating 'his' intention to retire this week, ala Simpson last week, will help bring the numbers in in what could potentially be our lowest crowd of the year. The only thing stopping it happening though, of course, is that Robbo probably wants to go on, even if not at the MFC..

IN: Robertson, Jurrah, Whelan, Rivers

OUT: Bail (quad), Bruce (wrist), Newton, Miller

I've now read an article from The Age, which says that Bruce is out for the year. Also says that Rivers, Watts, McKenzie, Jurrah and Jamar are all available.

http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/rfnews/in...9756255044.html

So to edit my previous prediction:

In: Jurrah, Watts, Rivers, Jamar, McKenzie

Out: Newton, PJ, Miller, Bail, Bruce

Yeah, you'd think Jamar and McKenzie would come back in as well. Just read Whelan is unavailable too, so not a possibility.

My amended changes -

IN: Robertson, Jurrah, Jamar, McKenzie, Rivers*

OUT: Bail (quad), Bruce (wrist), Newton, Miller, Johnson

* - Provided his groin is 100% fine. If there is even the slightest soreness, he should be rested for the rest of the season to be ready for pre-season. A reoccurence of OP now could well be career-threatening for Jared.

Whopper might be available, but he won't play, having missed two or three weeks of any kind of football, let alone AFl standard. If he plays again this season, it'll be in rounds 21 and/or 22.

McKenzie and Jamar look set to miss out. Leaves Zomer and Buckley. I was at Morwell on the weekend and watch the game and though Zomer was very good, I think he can add some Physical presence. Buckley tried to be explosive though fumbled, got caught or made poor disposals.

Wheres Watts at the moment?

Bails said today that he has 26 fit players to choose from. Could the unthinkable happen - Freo beats us :o Scary thing is maybe we're not tanking.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
