Fine, I'll relax. I'll just accept that taking poundings is what we do. I could get used to it eventaully. All this time I was letting it get to me, when all I had to do was accept mediocrity. :)

Perfect example of someone who completely misconstrues the term 'accepting mediocrity'. Unfortunately far too many people make this mistake.

Accepting mediocrity would be not doing the hard things that are in the best interests of the club, instead taking a foolhardy route of cheap meaningless wins so you can take some petulant higher moral ground and in effect dooming MFC to another era of half-built teams that are unable to get past the upper middle of the ladder.

Bite the pillow and let us be great once more.

Wow. Dramatic much?

Who ever said (seriously) that Scully would do all that? You show me anyone (besides Y_M) who said that in a serious conversation.

Scully won't do it on his own. But he, and whoever we get as pick 2 or 3, will only HELP deliver us flag after flag, and 20,000 more members.

You know what else will do it? Support from the current fans.

Ironic that you have called someone else dramatic whilst putting together a 'War and Peace' length novel of diatribe lambasting anyone who disagrees with you. No matter what you think, you cannot seriously tell me that what the boys presented out there on the park today was anything less than a disgrace!

For what it's worth, just because someone thinks differently to you, doesn't mean they love the club less.

That is all.

Some people... Thankyou dappa dan beezlebub jaded and the like for setting the doomsdayers straight. The game was awful, but we achieved the desired result. i couldn't listen after the first half and it would have been nice if it was closer but oh well. I've giving up on the wins but it is great to see the young kids and the blokes on the fringe get a run.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but surely everyone must agree that the club are heading in the right direction. You don't think it pains the board and the coaches that it is in our best interests to lose?? It's just how the system goes and has always gone. It's not cheating. Teams at the bottom manage their lists, collect the best kids then make their assault up the ladder. At the same time we're wiping our debt and getting the right people into the club to secure the future of the melbourne football club.

There will be tears, frustration, anger but just make sure when the demons are back up the table and our young kids have developed and we're hopefully tasting onfield success that you remember the tough decisions made by the board and bailey and co today. They're sacrificing their reputations for this great club. I have never been more excited about the future of this club. We are in good hands.

Anyone want to talk about Matthew Bate? I thought he was pretty good today.

Could be a darkhorse for the B & F. He has played every game, and although he started a little slow, he has been fairly consistent this year.

Bad luck to Rohan Bail. The kid gets one kick and goes off in the first quarter and is never seen again.

Spencer played all right. But seriously, that kick at goal?

T-Mac played pretty well.

Good glimpses for the future in instances. Miller looked good in the forward line. Valenti was great.

We just need Jurrah and Grimes back.

T - Mac was good, a very good debut for mine. cant wait to see him play more games next year.

Valenti was really good, dont no why people think his disposals are no good.

McNamara was far better up forward and on the wing, than he was deep in defense where he lost his man on the lead every single time.

That he went to sleep after he was out-marked at one stage and let the North player just run into the goals, was also pretty inexcusable.

On the positive side, his disposal was top notch, and I remember how bloody hopeless Frawley was as a defender for 3 whole years.

Poor Bail, had a hard few weeks, finally gets to debut, has one really good kick and gets injured. Will definitely play next week if fit to go.

And as I mentioned on another thread, I love Spencer, and I hope he puts that attempt at goal kicking behind him. Yes it was terrible, but he played well and has a big future ahead of him. I felt gutted when you could clearly hear the crowd laughing at him. Imagine what he must have felt, in just his 4th match... probably wanted to bury himself alive. And the worst thing is, he is ten times better than some of the other talls we had running around out there today, but you wouldn't know it by the crowd's reaction.

Boy, we have some clueless fans. It was hard enough to watch a very ordinary game of footy, but listening to our ``supporters`` bag our players for being hopeless and kicking backwards, and then reading some of the nonsense on this thread is even harder to take.

I actually enjoyed our insipid display today. It`s the most relaxed I have been at the footy in over a month. Some may say we took a small step backwards today when in actual fact we took a giant leap forward, particularly with Freo winning today!

Kudos to Matty Bate, you`ve silenced a few knockers in the past month or 2!

Yeah, Bate-a was good again today. He demonstrated he can win the ball in the midfield, up forward and even across half back. Bailey is developing a very flexible squad, which may well pay off some day.

Sylvia was also solid for the majority of the game. How was his 50-55 metre pass on the outside of his foot, hitting his team mate lace out on the chest? Except for his one memorable turn over, Morton was also exciting. His link up play with Colin, a couple of times was a glimpse into the future.

Agree... 22points down... 1.45 on clock... a kick just outside fifty.....and PJ turns around and kicks backwards?? And we spend the rest of the quarter running the clock down....thats just a bit too over the top.. even for me

One of the most infuriating things I've seen on a football ground. We are down by heaps just before half time and I think it was Bennell or Tommy Mac who had the ball just outside our fwd 50 instead of looking to get it in long quickly they stood there with a thumb up there behinds waiting waiting for a lead that was never ever going to come, then kicked the ball backwards then it went further back then further back.. we ended up on our defensive 50 about 50 seconds later after sideways and backwards kicks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For farks sake if you have 3 talls who re slow off the mark and the opp's flood/zone back get it in quickly not [censored] fart around the outside.

I have not been a fan but he was good, gathered kicks all over the ground and generally found a target. Also one sunny day does not make a summer, do it on a consistant basis big fire engine.

Some epic hand-wringing going on here.

Again.

It's like every 4 weeks on here people forget that we are crap and come on here and vent their frustration.

We lost to NM. With 15 players 22 or younger. With two debutants.

It's also pleasing to see some posters on here coming out of the woodwork for the special occasion of a bad loss in a vain attempt to convince the rest of us of the regression they think they see.

2008 was ground zero.

2009 is an easier pill to swallow with glimpses of what is coming.

Looking forward to 2010.

I had a BBQ for All the kids , cousins and friends who support us, to watch the game on FOX , they have gone outside .... refused to watch this rubbish
Should have organised the BBQ for next week.

So many pressing the panic button... Hilarious! We were in full tank mode today and the players who are part of the future all had decent games today despite of circumstances. Time to take a deep breath and relax. The plan is coming together beautifully.
Yeah I know. Anders needs his head read. Mate if you cannot comprehend who was missing from the team today and what this club is about at present you have lost touch with reality. Edited by High Tower

PJ slowing it down when we had momentum heading towards half-time was laughable.

That said, I thought he did some decent things today.

Mate if you cannot comprehend who was missing from the team today

I find this pretty funny too.

The fact is that we're not a very good side atm.

What do people expect if they take a relatively poor side and then have half the list out injured?

Now, with the Freo game to play out, .6 % below Freo. Interesting.
And 8 premiership points less with 3. games remaining.

Agreed - looked alright presenting up forward and kicked the ball to a teammate in the 50 very nicely at one stage.

Disappointing moments for both Bail and Spencer, for sure.

I thought Spencer worked pretty hard to provide an option today but his kicking - and I'm not talking about the shot at goal - is pretty bad.

I was really hoping Spencer would get another shot later in the game, but it wasn't to be.

I hope Bail does get a start next week too. Been through a rough period. We need to give him another taste he was hardly out there.

Some people these days do not understand patience.

This Club is Being Totally Rebuilt in all areas.

To do it rite takes time...

That was my exact thoughts too. From the heavens i am guessing.

rpfc is right, some posters are oblivious to where our club is and fail to see the big picture. They vent their frustrations after every game and fail to realise the significance of two very early picks and what they mean. No doubt they will be 'beside themselves' in 2010 and Rd 19 2009 forgotten.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
