sylvia hasnt earned the rite to play seniors or not at all, are you some kind of dimwit, hes strung togother a few good games, and we he does play well hes a gun,but hes far from elite, players like flower dont play reserves.

Good Point. If Colin Sylvia has a Stellar 2010 season, then i will concede he does not play in the seconds before return. Until then he must Earn his spot in the Senior Side.

He & the Team must learn to Respect his position.

In Norm Smith's Day the Seconds did not get Paid. So once in the senior Side players rarely got dropped. Before During & after WW2 money was scarce. League Footballers were reasnoably paid. But the 2's got no more than an orange.

During that period Melbourne won 3 flags in a row. 39-40-41

good post WYL, players like flower, neitz and lyon dont play reserves, sadly the club hasnt had enough of those type of players over the last 3decades, as for fools who think sylvia shouldnt pay his dues, they have no idea.

A week at Casey won't do colin any harm. Infact it should make him more hungry to play well in the seniors.

He Got Caught wacking someone, has missed 4 weeks so he should get a VFL run first off.

Hopefully he won't wack anyone next year, as he will remember the consequences.

I think he has turned the corner.

So YM is right...

But he gave a bloke a roundhouse just for being a Selwood. Ok, maybe that is just cause but...

You're right WYL he should go back and give RR some company and earn back a little respect.

Best way to get a winning Culture into a club is to create Hunger amongst the players. I want Sylvia to play-BUT i Want Colin to EARN it & Thus not give it up.

Maybe from next year he can string 100 games in a row

Now that would be awesome.....

I can't think of one player at the moment on our list that shouldn't do penance @ Casey if they've let the club down. We are trying to create a new discipline & culture amongst the group & that should take precedence over wins actually, whilst we are still at the rebuilding phase @ this point in our rebuild/ladder position.

You're living in fantasy land. You seriously think that if we beat Richmond we will suddenly get a winning culture? Getting more good players to the club creates a winning culture not beating a club that isn't a lot better than us.

I couldn't think of a worse thing for creating members than blowing our chances to recruit the best young kid in the county. It's one of the very few things we have had to look forward to all year.

You don't think getting the top two picks will be good for membership?

Moloney is out. So our midfield consists of Jones, McDonald, Bartram, Petterd, Bruce, Morton and Valenti..... wow! Should be a win for us against Cousins, Cotchin, Delidio and.... whoever else they roll out.

Totally Agree. All Players Should read the Early Chapters of "The Red Fox" when Senior selection was coveted, as it literally meant food for said player & Family was put on the Table

. The "Susso" pay didn't go that far.

Our forward line is very top heavy. AKA West Coast last weekend.

No crumbers, its mark the ball or watch it go back out. Then again really makes our tall forwards accountable.

We are definitly going for it (PP)! Still nervous, the tigers could well think they have this one in the bag and fail to come to play like Port and Sydney.

It might not be true, but that's really disappointing. I really wanted to see him get through the entire season. Without Beamer in there, and also Mclean, we will not win many clearances. Good tanking tactic though I guess.

One form of tanking is not picking the best team to win. If we were picking the ebst team to win, Sylvia would be picked before Jetta

i dont know which team is right..

if you click on the pop up game screen on afl.com it says the bench is:

Int: Jake Spencer, Shane Valenti, Matthew Whelan and Moloney (who is clearly out this week)

if that is true.. Jetta and Morton have also been dropped??

Of course. Plus it gives Jetta another run in the big league which is only helpful for his development in the long term. It's a Win Win. Umm or is that Loss Win? God I'm so confused.

Its a win for 2010 & i will take that Gladly.

Too true WYL.

And for the posters on this thread who have suggested that a string of wins to end this season will do wonders for membership going into next season, seriously, Tom Scully and pick 2 will do more than wonders for our burgeoning membership and supporter base. Just wait and see. This season will soon be an ancient memory, thankfully.

We are officially tanking. Good work DB

It's an insult to the oldest football club on this planet and to DB and the football department to suggest we're tanking.

The three players out this week are all injured. Sylvia let his team down with an undisciplined act that should not have occurred given his past history. A week at Casey is not going to hurt him. It's all about managing your list, instilling discipline and nuturing your players for future success. Nothing to do with tanking whatsoever.

Haven't been winning many anyway. The boys are ranked 16th for clearances AND contested possies.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
