It was Jolly wasn't it? Only about 2 foot and 25 kgs difference. Would have looked pretty if the ball had have gone with him.

Yes it was an ordinary effort and am sure the debrief will sort it out. He will learn from it. It becomes a problem when it becomes a habit.

How's Liam Jurrah going Sticks??

Yeah wasnt great to see. Then again he weights low 70s kgs, and White weighs 105kgs.... so over 30kgs of difference lol. I'm sure he'll hear all about it from the coaching staff and will learn from it.

I really like Bennell. The only problem I have with him at the moment is he isnt getting enough of the ball. When he does get it he has good dash and kicking, and I think the club should try to utilize that more. Whether that means playing him on the wing instead of in defense I'm not sure, but it's definitely his strength and hopefully we see more of it in the future, as he is wasting in shut down defensive roles IMO.

He's a kid, they do that from time to time.

In fact, your username illustrates a fondness for a player that has 'pulled out of contests' on more than one occasion.

Bennell will be a very good player.

It looked worse than it was because the ball bounced away from him. He was anticipating the ball sitting up nicely for him and was preparing to make his getaway.

Very few players over the course of their careers, have gone everytime it's their turn to go, especially early in their career. I remember seeing Chris Judd in his first season dodge a contest similar to Bennell today. He turned out ok.

It happens. He'll learn from it. And as he plays more games he'll learn how to take a bump from a much bigger opponent without taking the full force of it. I remember seeing Matthew Robbins run in a straight line with Glen Jakovich coming full speed in the opposite direction. Robbins didn't know how to protect himself against a much bigger opponent while still making a contest. He totally wrecked his shoulder by taking bump from Jakvich full on.

If Bennell shirks contest after contest, then it's a problem. Right now, it's not a concern.

not really worried about this

jetta is soft as butter

Really? Are we watching the same Jetta?

Anyway, on topic, as others have already said, if Jamie continues to squib it, then it's a problem. As of now, it's just a one-off incident that i'm sure he'll learn from.

He is in his first season and is seriously undersized.

Cut him some slack FFS!

So what if his seriously undersized and a first year player

Right from the get go your told to put your head over the footy

It's not the size of the dog in the fight that counts, its the size of the fight in the dog

It was soft, soft as butter and shocking to see

Jaded you are consistantly cementing yourself as the worst poster on this site, not allowing anyone to critize a melbourne player in any way shape or form. Drop the act, get real! We are where we are for a reason. Dont shade the situation its black or white!

You go, you dont go. You dont stick out one arm and half go at it like a fairy.

I agree, but I'll cut him some slack because he's a rookie.

I didn't see it and I've not seen him dog it before. But if I see it again I'll start to ask some serious questions.

Hopefully this will be avoided because if the coaches are worth their salt they will go over this incident with him and make sure there is not a recurrence.

Is those post a joke? Jetta has plenty of question marks at this stage, but hardness is definitely not one of them. He's actually so hard at the man that it's been comical at times, watching him try to tackle blokes twice his weight.

To me it looked like he was anticipating a change in ball direction.

My interpretation too, though it might've just been rose coloured glasses. But like W_J said, I believe he deserves the benefit of the doubt at this stage of his career, especially considering this one was borderline and happened in isolation. It's only a worry if it starts to occur more often.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
