Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I know exactly what you're saying, but when you don't win the ball you wear the consequences. He had to take the ball and didn't. He'll learn from what was clearly a mistake.

Correct. Next time he won't squib it when he is confronted by a similar situation.

its the stigma of the melb footy club, we've never been known as a tough club and these blokes arn't shown real aggression from the older guys. perfect example when we played geelong miller had the perfect chance to run through selwood but didn't, selwood took the mark and miller didn't even make contact. we need to pick up players with real toughness in them.

Question. Name melb most feared player. Arrrrh i'll get back to you.

Then again the last time Miller did that he nearly killed someone (Lonergan) so maybe that plays on your mind wouldnt you think?

I wouldn't say its tough barreling into a guy taking a mark from behind.

Players have to be very careful doing this now anyway 1/2 a second too late and they will get a lengthy holiday. Which Miller really can't afford atm.

What?!

No he isn't.

Back to the end of the queue, DJL.

watch the games hes played.... there has been atleast 4 times where he has demonstrated "softness"

that being said yes he has laid a few good tackles

if u want me to watch all the games this year i will, and tell u when the incidents occured

2 in one game stand out where the contested ball was there to be won and he bumped both times instead of going for the ball or a hard tackle

soft is a very very overused word on this forum

It sure is.

And, yes, go and find these 'incidents' where a first year player didn't show complete comittment.

It'll be groundbreaking...

The kid is doing fine. He's courageous and he has impressed a lot of people.

Short answer to your question: No.

Long answer: He rightly decided that taking the contact was only going to result in another stoppage (which is Sydney's strength) and tried to take the ball and slip past the opponent. Had the ball not taken an off break he would have pulled it off and we'd all be singing his praises. Yes, he would have been better off keeping over the ball until he was sure it was in his hands, but that's a problem most of our list is having these days. Personally I'm thrilled to see a first year player with so much promise in our side.

we are not debating if its "groundbreaking" or not... i made a statement i dont care if the player is first year or 5th

im not usually a player basher, but ive been far from impressed by jetta this year especially his kicking on goal and his committment to contests

His kicking for goal obviously needs work, but I definitely think you're talking out of your backside with the commitment to contests.

Jetta's rough around the edges and is fairly slow for his size, but he shows promise and a big part of the reason why is because he's so hard at it. Yes he's missing shots on goal, but the fact that he's getting shots should tell you something.

Besides, it's hardly surprising that a kid taken in the 50s, and in his first year of footy, has some flaws. I reckon he deserves a lot more slack than you're currently cutting him.

jetta is soft as butter

Your'e wrong. His defensive ability is the only thing he's got going for him. He's not very quick and for an aboriginal his skill level is horrible. He reminds me of Troy Cook.

Bennell will be a very good player. He just didn't do the percentage thing he tried to be a little bit too fancy and it didn't work. Davey does what he done a lot but it does look a lot worse when you do it in the backline.

You may not care, but it matters.

And Jetta has had a fine debut season as a floating FP/HFF, and managed 14 assists (4th to Davey, Bate, and Sylvia) from only 33 Inside 50s.

As a reference - Nathan Jones has 12 assists from 57 Inside 50s.

He makes things happen with his 11 touches a game.

his deubt season has been average

his kicking for goal is shocking and i stand by my statement of him being "soft"

also i think ull find he has 7 goal assists i hate this "assists" crap

i still give him a chance to get better .. relax

Just on Jetta, we know he can hit a bloke on the chest and also tackle, but there was one effort on the Southern Stand HFF against PA where he made about 3 tackles in a row, and kept on harassing and eventually affected the kick and PA turned it over.

Very impressive for a 1st year.

With Jetta and Wonna it makes it easier to keep Davey up the ground as he is desparately needed to kick the ball into the forward line.

On Bennell, he's got something about him but I wonder where he will be positioned over the next few years and where he will end up. I really think he should, from next year, do the set-up kick off half back instead of Morton and Grimes and try and ge those two in the middle more.

Eventually, Bennell could be a very capable wingman IMO.

You are not taught to anticipate the bounce of the ball and change directions.

You are taught to run in straight lines and put your head over the ball.

He squibbed it.

Most do at some stage early and learn from it, i like him and can see him as an Andrew McLeod type.

that post has no buisness here it is not constructive!

GET A BLOODY LIFE!

all u get his hacks like enforcer on demonland with no opinion or input watsoever just little smart remarks

Not constructive?

As opposed to your post above??

Get a life? What, you mean instead I should be spending my life bagging 18 yr old kids for not doing something you'd never do yourself?

You are the weak one.

Ok, i understand that you probably aren't smart enough to understand what I meant, so I'll spell it out for you:

- I said your comment was ironic

- Your comment was "u have no idea mate..."

- Irony is an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected. Similar to sarcasm or satire.

- Your comment was ironic because it is in fact you who has no idea.

- If you read the thread properly you would see I have made my position on this matter quite clear.

- In case your feeble brain has a hard time reading through the thread, I said "even Michael Voss shirked some contests as a young player." Something he himself has admitted.

- If it continues to occur then it will be a problem, but for now he is a kid learning the game and what is acceptable at AFL level.

2 incidents stand out in my memory

when he twice in 1 game

bumped instead of tackling or tryin to win the contested ball ..

i dont have a problem with players being "soft" in general

but it just looked really bad and now maybe it has tarnished my opinion of him.

Thats BS, that doesn't make a player soft. Jetta is not soft at all.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
