If Jamar is too much of a risk for this week even though available, Spencer should play.

Official afl website list

Sam Blease (leg) - indefinite

James Frawley (hip) - 2 weeks

Colin Garland (foot) - indefinite

Brad Green (jaw) - test

Mark Jamar (foot) - available

John Meesen (foot) - indefinite

Jared Rivers (ankle) - 1 week

Paul Wheatley (quad) - 1-2 weeks

Austin Wonaeamirri (knee) - 6 weeks

Liam Jurrah & Jake Spencer who have been missing in action for a few weeks are not mentioned although, if the Russian is available then Spencer must go back to the rookie list.

James Strauss will sit the week out due to suspension incurred while playing for the Casey reserves against Coburg.

Given we have Garland and Meesen on the LTI, putting Spencer back on the rookie list would seem unnecessary

... except that it's a formality the club has to go through if Jamar is reactivated as a senior player. Spencer will have to be re-rookied and then replace one of the others who is on the LTI.

You know, in previous years this would have done very little to excite anyone on this site. In fact it might have had the opposite effect. But I'm guessing that many people here are pleased, or at least glad, to see that Jamar's available and could be back in the next few weeks.

Does this cost money, because if it does then it's something that the clubs should question the AFL over. It seems obvious to me that, in instances like these, the rookie should be allowed to stay on the senior list without having to go through these ridiculous formalities.

Sad reality that isn't it  !!!

Thank god Jared is alright. :)

My sentiments exactly.

And 2 weeks for Chip isn't too bad either.

Green being on the verge of fitness is also great news.

My guess is that he'll be second ruck for the Casey twos for a couple of weeks and then be eased into the ones. Ready for AFL by round 12 or 13 bsed on our current conservative system of rehab for players.

I don't believe that it costs the club any extra to go through the process. Just paperwork.

Does anybody at all know what is going on with Jurrah???????

I was hoping that he might be ok, and pushing for possible selection for the indigenous round in a few weeks. But i am assuming not any more.

Yep when it happened i thought he was gone for the year!

It's about time he got some luck, same as moloney.

Wona and Watts for the second half of the season will be nice.

Will be very nice, with any luck we'll have Watts to debut against the Eagles round 14 at the G and after Wonna has a few games with Casey we might see him back round 15 against the Power at the G.

Edited for accuracy <_<

If Green's a test this week, then he could be right for Hawthorn next week. Great news, considering he was diagnosed for up to 8 weeks.

Maybe they have let Jurrah go home for a few weeks to see family. It would seem that this is important for him. Maybe, I dunno?

Jurrah will be playing for casey this week. Would have played last week so that's why he is not on the injury list.

I think he only had an illness so nothing serious

I don't see the point of elevating Spencer for one of our other LTI as Spencer is injured himself. Elevate him when he can play.

What's up with Jurrah? I would like to know that too.

Apparently, as of this year, rookies will be able to be selected without need of elevation after round 10.

Jurrah did not get injured as such, so he never appeared on the injured list. From what I have been able to glean, he had an abscess which was surgically removed. These things can knock you about a bit, but he should be fine for this week-end.

It's only one rookie per team though...

Sadly I'm still not convinced about Jamar, in fact I'd have him 4th in our ruck pecking order. I was impressed with Meesen's ruck work in the 4 games he's played. Johnson had a good game against the Eagles and we all know Spencer is a long term project. Jamar doesn't do enough around the ground for mine and doesn't win enough hit outs to compensate for the lack of ball he gets.

Personally if Jamar, Johnson and Spencer are our ruckman to pick from for the rest of the year I'd be going with Spencer and Johnson every time.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
