Actually thats not true, We have alot of in and under players who can get the hard ball but we get beaten by class usually.

The problem with those guys you mentioned is that Geelong's players are just as big yet are also incredibly skilled

the thing is though, i think it is becoming too simplistic these days to have "inside" and "outside" players. what would you call judd and ablett?

No, he won't. He didn't really help last year and he won't help this year. So he got 30 odd touches against Port Melbourne - we have enough of his type who can do alot more with the ball than he can.

Can't agree with that at all. Nugget is right the best midfielders can work in close with strength and be creative, but look just as at home recieving a handball using pace and good disposal to create scoring opportunity and when the go forward and score themselves.

Ablett and Judd are the two hardest running, well rounded midfielders in the comp. Ablett is close to becoming the best midfielder I have ever seen and is the yardstick at the moment. Don't mistake Ableltt for an outside midfielder, he gets the footy in contested situations and somehow finds his way clear into space to deliver the footy a lot.

Moloney is a great inclusiong this season.

He does alot of the one percenters, gets contested possessions, clearances and puts it into the forward 50...

Hopefully Sylvia can produce this kind of goal kicking display more regularly...

I reckon you're right. If everyone was as good as Ablett and Judd, then those would be the roles they'd play. Judd's strength is bursting away from packs and winning clearances, while Ablett's is slick handpassing and sneaking forward for goals. Not to say that either is bad at the other part of the game, though.

How times have changed.

I often think about this, and the thing I keep coming back to, is that everyone has a tendency to over-correct for weaknesses. Hence our "soft" but skilled midfield of a few years ago compared to our "hard" but slow and unskilled midfield now. The same thing might have happened with our forward line. That's why I'm wary of picking up Butcher this year at the expense of a great midfielder. We may not need the former, but the latter could come in handy.

It is a problem which is needs to be addressed. Lets not forget the top 3 draft picks from last year are yet to debut. Maric and Grimes are also yet to come in. The midfield a few years ago was ok but - I dont think it was regarded as a 'rolls royce' midfield within the AFL

I can't remember if it was in the 3rd or 4th quarter, but Moloney laid an absolute bone crunching tackle on some poor Richmond player, he almost tore him apart. Fantastic tackle it was too, aggressive painful and didn't give away the free-kick.

If that was me, i wouldn't have got up for a month, or possibly have died of a heart attack. Go Beamer you good thing!!!

What we getting to see is the work Mark Williams and Scott West are putting in.

We are not getting smashed in the clearances, and we are really agressive, probably they are looking if Sylvia can do it week in week out to complement the others....

OUr ruck division from lookng a basket case is actually looking good......I am still over the moon with Meesen's tap down to Miller off the goal line for a goal........nobody has mentioned it

the next bit will be getting the ball out and forward.......you will notice that Jetta is being sneaked in now and again...would assume this wil happen when Wonna comes back as well..would say this is the plan going forward to give more options instead of Davey and Morton...

If its the one I'm thinking of, it was a discrace he did not win a free kick for incorrect disposal. What ever happened to that rule? Prior opportunity and then a crunching tackle that forced the ball free. Dunn also dumped one of the young tiogs in our forwardline with a heavy one as well. Once upon a time the only one that could tackle in our side was wheels.

The progress from the tall defenders has been extraordinary.

We've got five top 20 picks to come in - Grimes, Maric, Strauss and Blease to add to the midfield and Watts to come in up forward.

We actually have hardly seen most of our early picks from the last two years - just Morton really, and super-rookie Wonaeamirri.

With 'The Meese' playing alright in the ruck and young Spencer developing nicely, and Jamar to come back in, we might actually have four credible ruck options on our list by the end of the year - a far cry from the 0.5 we thought we had a month ago!

Miller's work ethic would appear to have become contagious - Bate in particular has been putting in all the effort regardless of rewards lately.

If things keep developing the way they appear to be, we might actually have all positions usitbalby filled by the end of the year, ready to start our drive to glory.

But I would like one out and out superstar midfielder to give us a little extra psychological edge...

Good times are coming, but I'll keep putting an effort into not expecting them to come tomorrow.

In the Third (?) quarter, Mclean had a perfect chance to tackle a Richmond player when coming out of the middle, instead he bumped him and the Tigers bloke happily ran away still with the ball
