Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Bartram and Wona Injured

I knew that Wona was injured but Bartram? This article says that he has a burst ear drum.

www.melbournefc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/7415/newsid/72516/default.aspx

What happened there? Maybe we can excuse him for making a few bad decisions late in the game....

Does anyone know if these repair themselves? I though that the inner ear was for balance - what does this mean then??????

The 'ear-drum' or tympanic membrane will usually heal itself after a minor traumatic perforation. I don't see why Bartram would need to miss much footy if any at all. He may get some funny whistling sounds on the odd occasion (eg. when sneezing or nose blowing), and his hearing may be decreased in that ear. Plus a perforation predisposes to middle ear infections, especially when exposed to water. But it is more nuisance value than anything and he'll be fine. Balance is not a problem, as this is controlled by the vestibular apparatus which is much deeper behind the tympanic membrane.

Demonland has its own ENT surgeon.

Nice work. Sounds like like doc larkins! Looking forward to reading any of your injury reports throughout the year. Glad to hear that it is unlikly that he will have any ongoing problems with balance ala Alisha Molic with her dodgy ears.

I heard it was really painful. Can't have been easy to concentrate on footy with that.

I'm no medico, but I would like to make a point about wonna's injury.

At his age and at this stage of the season I would suggest a hammy is very unusual. I wonder if that due to his rappid weight loss and "extreem" change in conditioning may have been a contributing factor. Interested to hear others opinion's on this if its just a freak occurance or have the fitness staff maybe made a mistake?

Given his improvement over the pre-season and BOG in the intra club I wonder if he was a little over done as opposed to Davey who has been managed a little differently? Which ever way I hope there is no long term set back ala when davey did his.

Pity that Wonna is injured. Hopefully he plays Round 1.

Today's MX on page 15 sayes Wonna is out for 4 weeks quoting Craig Notman MFC Ops manager.

Also says Robbo " is expected to be training next month" & rehab is going well. Means he is not going to play until well into the season.

I totally agree with you - I think Wonna's injury is due to over training. I am pretty sure Sydney Swans use a software to risk manage players over the year - however it requires a history of previous injuries to identify high risk areas. Nonetheless the curse of injuries to key MFC players continues.

Actually, I am working in ENT at the moment. Next week I'm switching to breast surgery... let's hope I'm not called upon for expert advice on MFC injuries in that area!!! Although the way some of them played last year...

And for those that missed it Wheels has a calf strain. Given his age and his history with his calves, then I'm expecting the worst. (BTW I think the best will be a minimum of four weeks)

It feels like Wheels has one or three weeks on then four or five off as his playing pattern

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
