A good club with first pick in the PSD would convince an uncontracted player that they want to get, not to re sign with his club. That's what a good club would do.

Yup. Who are we going to end up with? Can't guarantee we'll get another Stef Martin...

The odds are Ryan O'keefe will stay in Sydney but he did say he really want to come back to VIC.

So IMO Go hard for Ryan O'keefe. Get in his ear now. He is out of contract and asking for $500K give and take. Pay the man.

He's a gun player and the original Ryan O'keefe prototype . He won't cost us any picks so basically a gun player for free. Go hard.

With O'keefe, A red headed Okeefe, Miller, Davey, maybe Sylvia, Watts Wonna etc, the forward line looks a little better.

You won't get to Carlton. WCE and Freo have plenty of cash to splash and will call your bluff. Come to MFC if you want VIC.

And forget this powerpoint bull. Hookers and cash.

Is Melbourne a good club Redleg?

Look at Jarka's reply and add to it the fact that we have failed to convince the last three guys we have had a serious go at to come to us. I will leave it to others to decide.

Then again the answer could be in the future tense, if we manage to convince a good player to go into the PSD we could be considered a "good club" as that's what a "good club" would do..

We should just go for the best young kid available. The last thing I want is a over priced reject at the club like Warnock will be.We need Prendergast to do what he's payed to do and that's recruit the best youngster's available.

Exactly! No need to say anymore!

Love the last line...

I don't hate the idea of ROK coming either, but I am almost completely certain he'll wilt and fade at MFC. Without a midfield to give it to him, and a defence to give it to them. He would be non-plussed about coming, cos we're so crap... Bailey would be loathe to give him the time of day due to his 23-and-under policy... It seems, on the surface, to be a bad fit even though he is a good player.

The only plus being that he can bring a bit of the Sydney work ethic to the club, which is sorely needed, and perhaps a bit of on field leadership.

Remember the last time we recruited a 28yr old? Byron was ok for his first year, but in the end, a waste.

You want ROK? So we are good enough to sit around 10th-14th, win a few more games, get worse draft picks to rebuild with AND prevent a young forward from getting game time to develop?

I know its not quite that simple, but i think this path would lead to MFC going under a lot quicker than any other course we take.

PSD=Some well hidden little known Smokey...unless ..someone falls into our lap..highly unlikely

If people dont want to play for us..so be it. Am not about to lose sleep over anyone

So again.. lets see if the MFC can pluck something gout of thin air..So far its picked its nose and its arse and come up short.

We dont need any expensive imports.. We need to box clever.

There will be opportunites next year for enterprsing players to step up and claim a guernsey as theirs..if they want it..otherwise we wil revisit this al again ( as we will..lol ) this time next year.

People ought to be reminded..there is no quick fix. Its a process.. It will take a few years..not overnight !!

We dont even know who is in the PSD...lets wait and see...then we can talk from some sort of realistic standpoint.. until then its a waste of pixels

If we can find a player who has the potential to fill an important structural piece in the puzzle that is our first 22 (such as Martin) I'd be rapt. If this particular player isn't a 'name player' then I will trust our football department. I was unsure when Martin was drafted last year and I now see him as a vital component in our future.

Being the 'good club' is bloody hard in current circumstances. It's like that kipling line: "keeping your head when all around are losing theirs and blaming it on you". We might be doing that things a good club should do, but given where we are starting at it cannot be clearly seen yet. I hope we are.

BEN COUSINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know.. 2-3 months ago I wouldnt have even contemplated this guy. But there's a strange compulsion about it.

Now before some of you get all your knickers and Y fronts in a knot., I'l lexplain as best I can my thinking.

Can he play ? without doubt on merit he's a gun. In fact..On song he's a class above most in our team.. Hard to swallow for many, but that just IS !!!

Has he put a foot wrong lately ? No all year he's apprently knuckled down and shown amazing work ethics considering he doesnt really know if he will be inducted once more. That takes guts for mine.

Does he fit the youth mould ? No..not in the slightest. But he does have a couple of good years left in him without doubt should he keep toeing the line.

Do we need some serious mettle through the middle. ?? Does a bear sh!t in the woods !!

We are trying to develop our KPP's.. We are trying to build both a forward line and deence of note. Hard to condition a forward line if it gets no balls fed to it !! A defence can get very despondent if its under unabridged attack all day.

Can we afford him.. ?? well he'd be a bargain next to the likes of Warnock etc ( rob)

Yes we are trying to get more game time into players, to better theri comfort with playing at the elite level. Its better and easier to do this if you arent being smashed from pillar to post each week.

Would he be taking up a spot that another could use better. ?? Well get rid of Chopper and get Cousins...that would have to have an upside ??? :)

All Im saying is look at this from all sides before making your mind up!!

He's a smokey ( sic) of a very dfferent kind.

If he's clean.,..then hes a poster boy for what you CAN do...even after you stuff up. You're never too old to REACH for your goals...Are ya listening Jimma !!

He could be a very handy interim player as our team of real gells together over the next 2-3 years !!

Our rebuilding is a series of steps..not one big jump.

Please to consider !! :)

Would love to get Ben COusins.

Will show the likes of Jones, Morton, Buckley, Maric, Grimes, Davey, Moloney, McLean etc,.. what it takes to be an elite midfielder.

Yeah hes exactly the type of role model we need down at the club....hes all about commitment and hard work....commited to working hard in the clubs and doing as much ICE as he can find....no thanks!!

Heck YM maybe him and Carrol can host a welcoming party for all the new recruits....make sure they are put on the straight and narrow from the start!

If he passes muster with the AFL..then one has to assume he's turned over a new leaf.

He's done his pennance. Or do you have proof of something. If not...well...

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
