BBP, Richmond did the same thing last year -- took Dave Gourdis with PSD pick 1. The only listed AFL player taken in last year's PSD was Scott Welsh and he went at pick 4. Hardly a big fish. It wouldn't surprise me if there were zero this year.

Welcome to the modern day Pre-Season Draft. Now that uncontracted, listed players can nominate for the National Draft, the PSD has become completely pointless in my opinion.

Other than what Rhino said, the main value is the extra couple of weeks to make judgements on who to take with the last selection or two.

Can make a significant difference rather than the lottery of pick 70, 80, or later.

I doubt too many demon supporters would be begrudging the extra fortnight that ended up seeing us take Stef Martin rather than Ashley Sampi last year......

Indeed. Absolutely wrapped to get Stef Martin last year. The Dees definitely kicked a goal there IMO.

Wrong.

Carlton picked up the Adelaide listed Darren Pfeiffer.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbnae

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
