Next Weeks Team

It will be interesting that now we have all but secured last place, and got ourselves a priority pick, will the team picked be one the coaches think is our strongest possible team with a view to next year, or will there be a few farewell games?

White looks like he'll get another game due to injuries, however i'd like to see us put in the like of Petterd, Maric and even Grimes if he plays well tommorrow. If that means Yze misses out, then so be it.

This week team is:

Backs: M.Whelan, S.Martin, C.Garland

Half backs: J.McDonald, M.Warnock, P.Wheatley

Centreline: S.Buckley, C.Bruce, M.Bate

Half forwards: B.Green, C.Sylvia, A.Wonaeamirri

Forwards: J.White, B.Miller, M.Newton

Followers: M.Jamar, C.Morton, N.Jones

Interchange: D.Bell, A.Yze, C.Bartram, L.Dunn

After strikes out the spectators this week we left with:

Backs: M.Whelan, S.Martin, C.Garland

Half backs: J.McDonald, M.Warnock, P.Wheatley

Centreline: S.Buckley, C.Bruce, M.Bate

Half forwards: B.Green, C.Sylvia, A.Wonaeamirri

Forwards: J.White, B.Miller, M.Newton

Followers: M.Jamar, C.Morton, N.Jones

Interchange: D.Bell, A.Yze, C.Bartram, L.Dunn

After that, we still have Buckley & Jones (can't hit targets), Miller & Bate (can't mark) and Bartram (can't do anything).

How about just putting all kids on the park next week?

Garland to play on Richo on a wing.

Maric to play Yze's role 100 times more effectively

Meeson in for White

Dutchy in his farewell game will replace Newton

Bode in for Bartram, lol well it's not like he could play worst than Clint.

I agree with Bailey.

Yeah i thought he was far from our worst, at least he took the game on occasionally, everyone else was happy to sit back and wait to cough it up.

Until yesterday, i was all for giving White and Yze a farewell game V Richmond but both were pathetic yesterday. When the team is doing poorly you look to your veterans to give the team a lift and they were nowhere to be found, if we still give them that game i won't kick up a s-storm but it's not my preference.

As a side note, i don't think White did himself any favours for getting a contract with another club next year.

Both played to the form they have shown over recent years.

White could have burnt on the ground and it would not change a thing about his football future. He is finished.

With PJ out, White will play again unless injured. Meesen is not in the Sandy side today so I think he is no hope of playing next week. Yze should go if Maric is available. No in fact Yze should just go.

Bate and Newton will not be dropped. Given we have signed Newton for 2 more years I cant see why we wont play him against the Tigers.

Bode wont get a run and he is finished at MFC. Holland would be lucky to get a recall.

IN: Holland, Petterd, Maric, Meesen

OUT: Newton, Bate, Yze, White

I'd love to see Holland get a game. He's a veteran who deserves a send off simply because we know he will give it his all from the first bounce to the end. The same can't be said for Yze or Newton. Maric surely returns (school permitting), Petterd to get Bate's spot.

Maric for Wonna - he was worse than Yze. (In fact he has had a shocking 5/6 weeks; not good signs.)

Valenti for Jones

White will play - no alternative. Maybe Holland for Newton. Maybe Petterd for Bartram

Bailey singled out Bell & Whelan yesterday as 'trying hard'.

shocking yes, but what can you expect, there arent many 19y-o kids, coming to the big city for the first time would be able to stand up to the pressure of AFL football, he is a rookie listed player, so the fact that he has done what he has is great for us

give him a few weeks off at the end of the season, and a bigger preseason and wona will be better again next year!

btw, we have two options for next week... play the old guys and reward them for mediocrity (it wouldnt be an issue giving them a fairwell game if they played 1's all year, but because they dont have the hearts in it anymore, they need to be gifted a game)

or play the kids, the future, line them all up how we will look round 1 next year, give maric and valenti and grime and petterd games, give meeson a game ahead of white, let morton and buckley play in the guts, martin and warnock play of richmonds key forwards, and let garland take on richo on the wing, its better long term to give the kids hope, not wasting development for the sake of washed up guys

lets keep it simple for next week, play every senior listed player who is fit and hasnt played a game yet.

Try to be the first team to play their whole list in a single season.

IN Cheney, Meeson, Pettard, McNamara and anyone else who hasnt played a game, why?

Buggered if I know but it will get us noticed.

He will get a holiday like the rest of the AFL players.

I agree that he will be better next year. He will be fitter. Know what AFL footy is all about. Set himself some targets. Hopefully will be playing in a better Melbourne side, with many of our better players back and younger ones improving, eg Morton, Maric, Grimes, Petterd etc.

You make a good point, though he has had a season at SANFL level, living in Adelaide.

I think he should have been handled with more care this year. He has been really down the last month or so, so why not rest him for the Port game? The very young players don't need another experience like that.

I'd like to see Meesen and Petterd play if available.

And I wouldnt mind if either of White, Yze or Holland were included.

Regardless of form, they've been great servants for the club and deserve a send off in a game which will have no bearing on anything.

Meeson has been ruled out for the rest of the year so he will not be an inclusion this week.

How'd you find out? I've read the same in another thread, but no reason was given. Disappointing that he's injured, given he had a good game the other week.

You know you're in strife when you're being outrucked by Nathan Carroll.

I'll guarentee one thing

that there'll be about 12 players on the current list not playing in a red and blue jumper next year

You couldnt guarantee nothing, except that your dole money will be in your bank come Thursday!

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
