i think he will to give everyone a taste

I wonder how many people want to watch him play for Melbounre this year simply because they are impatient to see the next great white hope. I know I am, but I don't think that any exception should be made for this reason. We should simply play who is best for the team short and long term (probably not Grimes in my view).

Anyway, there's nothing stopping impatient people like me from watching him play for Sandy.

He's not going to play this year guys, and nor should he. He has barely even got a run on in the Sandy Seniors! Picked up 8 disposals there on the weekend and ran out his 2nd full game. While it's good he is getting past his injuries and making it through games, he is still learning and getting up to speed. No need to throw him to the wolves for a pointless Rnd 22 match. Expect to see him next year after a pre-season and abit more hunger for a senior game have set in.

I reckon there's no downside to playing Jack v. Richmond. We don't want to win(especially if we upset Port), so the fact that he's not ready doesn't matter, in that respect. I think it would do him good to see the level to which he has to lift himself. Apparently there's no doubt that this boy's got what it takes.

What an opportunity!

I hope we won't be in this position again for a long, long time!

Having said that, I'm amazed we've dropped "D-Cups" (Maric), when there's another chance to get another 2 senior games of experience into him.

Agreed. Let the boy build a base.

You didn't consider my point, Jacey.

Was it worthy of consideration?

Where's the downside?

Is there any value in giving him one game at senior level to let him see what it's like?

WCE gave the pencil-thin Notte a game against us, to help ensure their loss.

There is merit in playing him and giving him a taste but personally i think he has missed too much footy. His played a few half games in Sandy 2's and just run out his 2nd? full game at Sandy 1st.

No downside but personally i liked to run out a few games so you can be confident your body won't break down.

Won't hate it if he gets a gig rd 22, just a preference.

Nailed it in one.

All this talk about him needing 'a taste of it' to fire him up for the pre-season etc is ridiculous IMO.

A couple of weeks back I advocated Grimes' promotion if his form merited it, but given his performance at Sandy 1s I don't think it does, and thus he shouldn't be played.

FWIW I will still predict he will get a game against Richmond regardless of this ludicrous thread. A full game in Sandy 1sts this weekend displaying great form will be required IMO. Fingers crossed.

I don't agree with "a taste of it" either. But if he has been named to start on the wing against Frankston. If he plays pretty much a full game showing very good form IMO he should be considered for Round 22.

Worth promotion on the back of one game? He didn't have a stand-out performance last week, and don't think he got much of it in his first week with Sandy 1s. There'll probably be someone more deserving of the run (ie. Petterd).

Yep give him a crack round 22 for sure.

It would be much better for him to experience the pace of the game, even if only once before the season is out. Then he'll go into pre-season realistically knowing what level he need's to get to in order to have an immediate impact next year.

hope he gets a go.....geez that ground looks dry!!!

it's the type of grass apparently...Mornington (where I live) has the same type...the surface is really good to play on...in summer it goes green...go figure!

For what it's worth I reckon let Jack Grimes see out year with Sandy then with a full pre season under his belt he should be up and ready for round 1 next year...

You have one very exciting prospect there. have really enjoyed his effors with Sandy

it'll be couch (pronounced kooch) or kiykiyu then. drought resistant. fantastic stuff. can get a slimey when wet in winter, but fantastic for sporting ovals as it will stay grassed all year round.

How do you know about grass? Do you spend a lot of time watching it? Or face-down in it?

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
