I'm sure they'll update it soon enough.

From what I can tell we've beaten the Bulldogs and Brisbane in the membership race.

Last word from the club is that we are sitting at around the 29,200 mark and that there will be an official tally coming in a couple of days.

Today's the last day to register as a member and be counted in the official tally.

Wow 800 off 30,000 would be so good to hit that Mark for the year. Wouldn't be hard to sell a few more after yesterday. Winning Culture is the only way to get a stable club.

Unbelievable.

Last on the ladder soundly beating first on the ladder for memberships.

We're ahead of them on attendences too.

We rock, us Demon supporters.

The Kangaroos have cracked 34,000?!!! No WAY! Surely that's a typo?

they went from 22k last year to 34k this year. i dont care how much the goonies at AFLHQ want to talk, there is no way in hell that that membership is genuine (all proper nth melb supporters), and there is no way that they will sustain it. next year we will be back on top of them in the race. nth and bulldogs are still more vulnerable to go than we are.

It is genuine.

However, the figure was on the back of a huge backs to the wall save our club from folding plea and a highly competitive side earlier this year and last year.

You can only rattle the emotional can once otherwise your message/plea/distress call falls on deaf ears.

North Melb will have big issue in membership retention next year. There is blip in the interest that does not match their attendance numbers.

North, Bulldogs and MFC are all vulnerable. But make no mistake Melb is in a far worse financial and infrastructure position than the other clubs.

What makes you say that?

deanox has defined 'genuine' as 'proper Nth Melb supporters', and anecdotal evidence I've seen suggests that he's right - it seems a significant number of people who don't follow North have been forking out for memberships.

I think that Nth has a higher rate of non-Nth fans as members than you'd see at other Clubs.

I should clarify the number is genuine the sustainability of the number is not.

From my spy at North, I have been advised that the likely non signs are a mix of emotive dormant North supporters who pulled the finger out and those that follow other clubs. I was advised that the drop off rate and resign of members from 2007 was very strong which suggests they have milked the North supporters for all they can and retention of true North supporters was very good. And IMO I would not be surprised if their membership pulled back in 2009 to 28-30k as the natural level of attrition to the North supporting members aided by the some fall off in non supporter benevolent memberships.

Rogue did you take the "it is genuine" comment to mean that it is genuinely made up of North supporters, and RR you meant it as that it is a correct number?

Because it seems you're saying the same things

I did indeed take 'genuine' to mean that it is genuinely made up of North supporters, since that's how deanox defined the use of the word 'genuine' in his post :)

yeah rouge got it. sorry for the confusion guys. i am sure the numbers are genine (unlike hawthorns pet memberships of years gone by lol) however given how few people are attending nth games it really suggests that they are not 'genuine' supporters who go to the footy each week, etc. i believe it probably includes a lot of people who as rhino said pulled there finger out but otherwise have little to do with the club and therefore probably wont back it up) and a lot of sympathisers who didnt want to see nth go the same way as fitzroy.

a lot of people have indicated they got on board even though they are not nth fans. for their membership to increase by over 50% (from 22k to 34k) you must assume that there are going to be problems with the turnover rate next year. for norths sake i hope its not too bad. but it will be interesting to watch none the less.

I cast some doubt over the Nth Melb tally -whilst probably genuine, it does not reflect a true 100% Nth Melb figure. I know many opposition supporters who bought a Nth Melb membership. What is correct is they will have a big issue in membership retention. It may fall back to less than 29,000 next year. That is unless Brayshaw uses his nous and pleas like earlier this year (including pleas on the Footy Show too), so they keep above 30,000.

The bottom line is, it doesn't really matter whether a club has 32,000 members or 43,000 members. Its about good management of a club in order to churn out profits as well as being competitive on- field.

Above the bottom line sits a figure called Revenue...11,000 members X $165.00 11 Game Red & Blue Membership = $1,815,000

So it rather does matter whether your club has 43,000 or 32,000 members.

Also more members makes us even more attractive to sponsors.

A strong membership means we dictate our own future.

Word is counting is still going but we may have hit 29,500.

Posted

If we play the style of game we played on Sunday for the remainder of the season, I can see us budgeting for AT LEAST 32,500 members next year & I reckon we'll exceed this.

Posted

Its going to prove a very interesting revelatoin of our true postion next year when we cast our eyes across the membership tallies of clubs like North compared to us. I think ours will if anything better this years. The notion of 31-32 isnt too far fetched if efforts and goodwill remain high around the club. I cant help but feel that the Kangas are in for a very rude shock next year when all the 'nouveau" and charity memberships fail to rematerialise.. The doggies numbers seem swollen with interesting accounting ..woof !!

You can sense the Numbers of the Beast swelling !! :)

Strange how everyone is accusing North of inflated numbers, but assume that ours are all genuine.

Maybe we are in for a rude shock next year?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
