Dal Santo

I just heard Dal Santo has been dropped to the VFL for this weeks game!

I cant believe he would be dropped before others on that team.

Yes he is not a hard nut but the guy oozes class and is one of my fav players on another team.

Question-

Say Dal Santo wants out at seasons end and the saints are willing to trade him away, would you be keen to have him?

I for one think he is exactly the type of player that we need to create the great balance of toughness( jones and brock) and classy skill .

The guy is, as the latest buzz word suggests, not "meeting his ability", 7 therefore needs sharpening up.

birthday is 22nd of Feb 84 making him 24 so he is out of the 23 and under target but for someone of his skill, assuming we finish on the bottom with less than four wins, i think our first pick at the start of the second round is tradeable (18 is it??), maybe throw in someone else as a swap, not that they have anything we specifically want/need

Wouldn't you barrack for the Saints to win without him?

I don't follow. I meant if you wanted to get him it would be easier if the Saints were winning without him. You have highlighted Port and I don't know why?

I dont actually want Dal. I mean yeah geez hes a good player but i personally think melbourne is a good 6 years away from being a premiership contender meaning he would be 30 and perhaps get 2-3 good years out of him. If he was 22 then yes but would cost way too much

Milne was also dropped, cough tanking, this from a team that wasted a draft pick on fraser gehrigs second coming, which is like tony locketts second coming

What draft number did they waste?

Milne and Dal Santo have both been dropped. There has been a criticism about certain players playing for themselves at St K....Hmmmmm <_<

I rare Dal Santo highly. Saying he would want out becuase of this is obviously a bit premature, but if he was available I think he would be a great acquisition. Would complement our midfield nicely and a good age aswell IMO. Although, I find it hard to part with any draft picks around the top 25

Tanking?

To get pick 4 instead of 6? I think not

Blooding a few youngsters while sending a messege to the so called leaders of the club is a good and appropriate direction for the Saints to take.

Yeah i'd take him for a mid 2nd round pick, though if he were to be traded, i'm sure St Kilda would insist on nothing less than a late 1st rounder. Would be a very handy player for us, with at least another 4-6 years left in him.

Not the quickest player, not the strongest body, but has the skill level and poise we're desperately lacking in the middle. A bit like Cameron Bruce in his ball-winning ability, but with the polished skills to top it off.

Has been dominating in the last few weeks for the Saints.....

From memory, he had 11 touches in the first quarter last week (in stellar form)

Thinking there may be a mit more to this story....?.....?.....

StKilda even when they had Lockett , Lowe and Co havent changed in my assesment

The look like Tarzan play like Jane Team

Dal Santo is great when he has the footy

Its when he doesnt is why i dont rate him at all

Milne is an opportunist at the wrong end of his career

From what i have seen we have Maric who is starting his career and i predict he will be MUCH better than Milne at his best

Drafting either of them would be going backwards

Milne gaaawwwnn

Delboy is unlucky one of the group being sent a message. At the start of the season looking at the list and there preseason form I thought genuine top 4....

So why did St Kilda sack one G Thomas again??? The president should get the chop for one of the worst descisions ever. A descision based on a personal feud instead of what is best for the club.

St Kilda didnt sack Thomas their President did and now he is gone as well

I have no pity for StKilda after sacking

Alves

Blight

There just might have been a premiership with one of those 3

Now they have Lyon

Both Sheldon and Alves had lost the players at the end of their coaching time. They were finished.

Malcolm Blight cheated St Kilda for the dollar. Blight's integrity as a Coach was in tatters after taking on a job he had no interest in fulfilling.

More like a wooden spoon or two in the lot of them.

Don't know about Sheldon, and I agree with you about Blight. I disagree about Alves on the basis that he had shown the coaching ability to take St Kilda to a Grand Final 12 months earlier and who knows what would have happened over another pre-season. Purely a hypothetical though.

Back to the topic, if St Kilda were looking to trade him and he was available for pick 17/18, I'd jump at it. Close to the best user of a ball in the competition, generally leads or gets very close to the top of St Kilda's hard ball gets, and he racks up tackle counts that TJ could only dream about (or has nightmares about depending on your point of view). He'll be 25 next year and that is an age/experience group in which we have a gaping hole.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
