This is without watching a replay..

6 - M Bate - outstanding presented all day and gave an option that we sorely missed in the opening weeks

5 - B McLean - set us up in the first half and was a magnet

4 - A Davey - apart from his brainsnap was very very good

3 - B Green - great off half back and was very courageous on a few occasions with some good marks

2 - C Garland - a bit surprising maybe, but the only player this year to keep Buddy to less than 4 goals (it think) great job

1 - A Wonaeamirri - star.. can do everything

6. Bate -- B.O.G for mine. Really clean hands. Started to look really condfident and sure with his handling. Great defensive pressure too.

5. McLean -- Relentless attack on the ball all day. 29 disposals and 7 tackles. Workman-like performance.

4. Davey -- Looks to have found some form again, lively and dangerous all day. Minus the silly 50 he gave away, was very good.

3. Moloney -- Worked hard in close all day. Applied immense pressure at stoppages (9 tackles.)

2. Wonaeamirri -- Uses the ball so well and has such amazing awareness. Already looks a player, but will be something else in years to come after some solid pre-seasons.

1. Garland -- Had the unenviable task of playing on Buddy and did everything he could. In the end it was Buddy's brilliance that got him 3 crucial goals, but Garland is one who could really hold his head up high.

Overall, it was a much better, more even team effort this week.

Green, Jones, Bruce, Buckley and Holland all stiff to miss. Bruce poor disposal kept him out of my votes.

I also thought Buckley was good today and I can see Valenti becoming a good player for us. I still believe we can't play him, Mclean, Moloney, Jones and McDonald in the same team and I reckon he will replace Moloney.

6: Bate. His best game for the year (and possibly his best yet)!

Then:-

5: McLean. His best for the year as well.

4: Green. Anyone who claims that Brad Green is soft is a fool.

3: Wonaeamirri. Starting to show a few more 'dimensions' to his game.

2: Garland. Top game from someone I dismissed out of hand a few weeks ago.

1: Davey. The old spark is back.

And I was impressed with Warnock but not at all impressed with Bruce. Buckley showed a bit but Bell was off the pace!

You can laugh all you want, but for once Yze_Magic is right. Bruce had a shocker yesterday. His disposal is getting worse and worse. Terrible kick for goal, kicked into the man on the mark, sold his teammates into trouble with stupid handballs... very disappointing for a senior player.

But enough of the negativity.

If I hear one more person complaining about Hawthorn missing key players yesterday, I will scream. We kept the Hawks to under 100 points with a backline that hasn't hit puberty yet. We were missing Whelan, Wheatley, Carroll and RIVERS, not to mention Jeff White. To their credit, Warnock, Frawley and especially Garland did a terrific job. Garland beating Knobhead Franklin one on one was the highlight of the day (what a frontrunner Franklin was yesterday). His cool calm disposal under pressure and some of his spoils were River-esque. :D

Bruce had an Ok game for me, he made three disposal errors.

But he had 10 contested possessions, I repeat 10 contested possesions. These are the possessions that count

I never reply to yzemagic as he has no football brains

I will reply to you this one time only as you are as brainless as him

I'm pretty sure he had more than 3 errrors. And they were simple kicks and handpasses not hitting the target. Bruce was poor yesterday, IMO (and its my opinion only). I cringed whenever he went near the ball in the first half. He can do much better

I agree. Without the benefit of watching the replay, I thought Bruce had a pretty good game. For the most of it, worked very hard, and disposed of the ball reasonably well. Had a few noticeable shockers which I think tends to bias some views around here

As i undertand it, the 'weighting' system of votes is based on our % for the game?

So that doing well in a good game ounts for more.

Now... I'm not going to take seriously anyone who calls Mclean a frontrunner, so the figures we've got would suggest that when Brock Mclean has a good day out, the Melbourne football club has a good day out. :)

Poor Greeny is a bit stiff in the numbers - he's been consistent even when the team has been shocking so he has been 'weighted' out a bit.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
