Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The coach told everyone

The coach didn't say anything that everyone didn't already know - you think no-one noticed that Jack was left out of 2 pre-season matches because of his attitude?

This idea that everyone out there, including other clubs, all think that Jack Watts is the greatest thing since sliced bread and if only Goody hadn't opened his mouth they still would ... it just beggars belief.

It was Buckley who was able to get him to play at a comsistent level.

Think it was as much to do with Howe (finally) accepting that if he wanted a career his place was across the half-back line, not as a forward taking speccies and kicking a bag. Which, incidentally, is what Collingwood traded him in for and where he started there.

Fine

There was no need for him to continue

No-one's harping on. They keep being brought up because any number of people here are in denial about golden boy Jack.

That kind of language doesn't help. Some of us are not 'emotional' and blinded by the 'golden boy' - we simply think our club is better off with Watts at the club. And some attempt to provide some reasoning for that view. It may be denial to you, but an argument to them.

A good soldier that even after 150 games gets dropped to the seconds?

That will happen to Vince next year. I understand your point but, as a coach who has dropped blokes because of weather, match ups, and to work on specific things - I really hated it when getting dropped was seen akin to a death sentence.

I have tried to avoid this thread but finally succumbed.

I have a simple question and maybe someone has already asked, but I don't intend to read through the previous 98 pages.

The question I have is "how does getting rid of JW improve us as a team? I had this same question when Neil Daniher wouldn't budge on his views of Shane Woewodin. In my view we gained nothing when that happened and I lost confidence in the coach because it appeared he had no understanding of "Team". My fear is that Goodwin wants his personal glory and success but it's more about him than the Club.

JW doesn't currently meet Goodwin's idea of what he should be, but what do we lose without JW and who replaces and improves us with him gone?

I have been to plenty of games where all some MFC supporters see is the tall blonde bloke not get the footy. Even when it is not his role to get the footy: 'get in there Jack FCS! Jump into that mass of small ball winning mids and win the footy...

'Where were you then, Jack?' About two metres away from the contest that Gawn and Pedersen just went up and got in each other's way and let Josh Gibson take a chest mark.

Occasionally, when the footy was on the Northern Side I would hear Dees fans with depth perception issues blame Jack for not getting the footy 40m away from the contest.

All this isn't to say he isn't very averse to contact but it has always been amazing to see Dees fans go to the footy and only see one player and everything he does, doesn't do or is nowhere near.

I do not understand how, knowing what we now know, anyone can think that the club is better off with Jack there unless they're letting their emotions get in the way. The remarks from the head of the Football Department (Mahoney) that Jack was a negative influence on the younger players were about as damning as it gets.

I agree that happens.

Is it possible that a few others then see the opposite based on their own subjective view ?

Who then is in the best position to cast judgement about Jack Watts?

Maybe his captain... His coaches?

Nor do they show how hard he has worked to make space and provide an option only to have a teammate fail to pull the trigger or just stuff it through poor disposal.

He's just not. The stats won't help you.

Just say you don't like him and you'd prefer to see him play elsewhere. It's more credible. Watts is a strong body and he is hard at it.

For all the posters here who want hard dudes from the set of the movie 300 playing for the Dees, they were all digitally enhanced.

FWIW, I met Gerard Butler in NYC. He was fat and unathletic. Would prefer Watts next to me in a battle every day of the week.

I went out with Mackie in NYC after they won the flag in 2011. He said the only MFC players they respected were Rivers, Watts, Jones and (I think) Frawley.

I can't believe I'm so emotionally invested in this. Clip to the ear.

I think that is dramatic licence from a FD boss desperate to create an asset out of a contracted player. I happen to know that Gawn is not the kind of professional influence you want around the 'impressionable youth' that we have.

Footy clubs are full of various personalities, even Jack Viney this season spoke about how his leadership has altered to be more accomodating to personalities different to his focussed, intense, and strict footballing attitude.

So, no, I don't think it would be a reckless decision to keep Watts.

In your opinion

So......keep the closing interview and feedback inhouse

Do not critique a player in public and leave him out to dry

That's pretty much it.

Whatever you make of the list management decision to move Jack on, the way the club have managed this is embarrassing, and the sort of thing that could strain relationships between management and playing staff.

The messy, public nature of the 'break up' and the club's public commentary on Watt's has been unprofessional and Goodwin and co, might have burned through a bit of trust with the playing group.

You can’t have 44 players on your list that are inside bulls. The reality is if the whole team kicked like Viney and Tyson we would be begging that Todd and Jason could find us a classy outside ball user.

He's not the only player and were not the only club that happens with. Every club has players/supporters like that, OMac is another who cops it like that. Grundy was like that for the Pies in 2016 their supporters were slagging him off before the game started.

Same people who yell "just kick it!.....argh who was that to?" and other classics like "don't go backwards"

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
