Angus Brayshaw signs contract extension till 2018

Great news! An up and coming midfield gun already added to the likes of Hogan JKH who signed extensions.

Wasn't there a report a few weeks back we were locking away Jeremy Howe, and then they slip that little nugget in the last line of this article. Or is that common knowledge?

Strewth is this panic stations stuff? The kid has just started with us. I would wait to next year for these negotiations myself.

I have no problems at all if both Brayshaw and Petracca both sign extensions. Far from being panic stations it is a sign that the club is gaining some cred!

We signed up Viney two years before he came to the club...

That might be considered more premature than this.

Fantastic news.

Cant wait to see this kid play in the Red and Blue.

Good news, would be nice to see Petracca extend his for another year too.

Tom Boyd set a precedent last trade period so the longer we can lock our young stars away for, the better.

All first round picks should be 3 year deals with a club option for a 4th at least. It's fair reward for putting such faith in a player.

It takes a special kind of hubris to think you should leave a club before that time anyway and a special lack of talent for a first round pick to be out the door before then. Somehow we've managed both in the last 5 years.

There's no desire for Brayshaw to leave any time soon and these days a contract doesn't do much anyway. There's little chance (although I bet we'll try to find it in him) that he'll be so bad or so injured as to not show some form, he's already showing a bit at training. There's also a reality that he's got some filling out to do and some developing as well so why bet on yourself dominating before your time. All round it's a nice set of circumstances for both parties to show some goodwill. We get the asset locked in and the salary squared away for future planning, he gets some financial security.

Been told we have another extension, they didn't say who but expect an announcement within 2 days

SEN mentioned some good breaking news to come out shortly, stay tuned.

Make senses to me.

If the club believes he is going to be good it is a much cheaper alternative locking him away for another two years now rather than waiting for 18 months of exposed form and then see his contract price increase significantly.

But then we don't know what the third year deal is nutbean

Wouldn't be surprised if its about Jeremy Howe putting off contract talks till the end of the year.

That's "good" news?

Didn't see the 'good' part..

My bad, carry on..

I don't really see this as a panic stations decision. I see it as both club and player committing to each other long term.

Good move from my point of view.

i am pretty sure we will see Christian Salem recommit to the club this week.

from what i was told it sounds like you might be spot on, Christian Petracca and Jimmy Toumpas are the other two who the club i'm sure will be moving to extend the contracts of if at all possible

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
