  4. Appears to be a new rule. Players taking a kick outside the boundary line, aren’t being made to bring the ball in over the mark, but rather are being allowed to continue on outside the line . Should be thrown in, as soon as they play on or kick it outside the line.

  5. Are they still salty about the last round in 1998 when they had to win to play finals, I remember there banner GO HARD OR GO HOME, then farmer took mark of the year on Lyon and they obviously decided to go home, I was at the punt road end that game remember tigers supporters punching on with each other in the standing area

  7. Rant for the day. A Selwood/Mathieson clone in Callum Brown. The amount of times he throws his head back staging for a head high free is increasingly annoying.

  8. I think we will win. Not because we are good but because Richmond are worse. This is the Richmond of 2016 not the Richmond of 2017-2019. Some key people who helped turn the ship around in 2017 are gone: Rutten defensive coach left end 2018 Rance left end 2018 Caracella who was credited with ball movement strategy left end 2019 Gale and more importantly Balme is not in their authorised 'bubble', so no face to face contact And captain and co-captain seem more distracted by the idea of an interstate hub than galvanising their team to deal with whatever happens. Perhaps they are so used to the comforts of home both domestic and playing 16-17 games a year on the MCG not having those has them nervous. So Hardwick is more or less the lone ranger in terms of leadership but he struggled before Balme arrived. They may rally tomorrow because they think we will be easy beats. But I think they are the easy beats right now. If we can't beat the Richmond of 2016 then I'll be very concerned

  9. No, their slow ball movement was primarily a tactic to ensure the game was not played fast as clearly with our selections and their lack of leg speed a fast game would have been to our advantage. They had 60 more non contested marks than us. That has to be close to some sort of record. And 54 more uncontested possessions. The game was played on their terms and in a way that negated our relative strengths As you point out they only scored 7 goals. I thought the defence played pretty well but i wouldn't be too quick to pump up their tyres as the Cat's game style also meant they only had 38 inside 50s (we had 46). And with 12 scoring shots they scored with close to every third entry and with 9 marks marked it every four times they came inside 50.

  10. That Storm v Roosters game last night was super to watch. I’ve watched more NRL games this year and not just Storm games. They’ve been really entertaining and certainly more enjoyable for me than all the Dees games so far in 2020.

  11. With the fourth best defence in the comp in 2020, I respectfully suggest that Jake Lever isn't the problem at Melbourne. And this contribution to the backline's performance after only 11 games back from a knee reconstruction. And it's not as though Melbourne has had a high percentage success rate with first round picks over the years. With our record in this area I was happy to trade two first round picks for a 6"5, 22 year old player yet to reach his prime. He showed in his time at Adelaide to be one of the premier backmen in the comp. According to the All Australian selectors, he was in the best 40 players going around in 2017 and in the best 22 players under 22 years old in both 2016 and 2017. I'm pretty happy with our deal on Lever quite frankly. Yes, we paid with two first round picks, but right now I'm not slashing my wrists over it. In fact, I was delighted with it in 2017 and I'm just as happy now. And I'm just curious, how many notable and credible ex-players or commentators have been highly critical of Lever's footy ability or the deal Melbourne did to get him to the Club?

  12. But the idea that someone is being 'gifted' games is that they don't deserve them. Clearly, both of these boys deserve their spots as they have been good at senior level so far. Rivers looks like a 10 year plus player for us, while Kozzie brings an exciting dynamic to our forward line, one we have been crying out for for a while. They have more than justified their selection in the side, and thus are not being 'gifted' games. And on form, right now, is Jetta better than Lockhart? Hard to say. I love Nev, but his form has been poor. Lockhart probably didn't do a whole lot better on the weekend so they would cancel each other out. No, Bennell isn't a better option than Kozzie. Kozzie has already proven that. While Harley is a slick ball user, he can't run out games and doesn't do nearly the amount of defensive work that Kozzie does. So, in my opinion, those three you mentioned are not being gifted games at all. While Lockhart would need a better game than last week to potentially keep his spot, his pre-season form and his game against the Eagles suggests that he has earned the right to get games. Rivers and Kozzie are, to me, already best 22 players and will be for a long time to come.

  15. We still have the same problem. There's too many players around the ball. Why?.., because that's what the coaches want We all want the prayers to spread out, but the coaches won't do it. So the solution is to force the prayers to spread out. How?... by having three or four players from each team in the forward fifties at every stoppage. It's a new rule that you won't even notice. All you'll notice is that the players are spread out more.

  16. Do people here actually want to talk about the other games, or is this just an opportunity for most to find other ways to sink the boots into the club? Dean Kent gets a couple of kicks and all of a sudden we've let go a future Brownlow medallist. Ben King kicks a few goals and then doesn't touch it in the second half and we've allowed an amalgam of Wayne Carey, Gary Ablett Sr. and Tony Lockett to slip through our fingers. To the actual game, I thought it went as expected - GC were always going to find it tougher outside of their own state, while the Cats are a 6-8 goal better side on their home deck. When Ablett, Selwood, Hawkins, Danger etc all retire in the coming years, they won't be much chop.

  17. Well the GC Suns have lost their first game away from home. Dew/Cochrane will start the priority pick talk now! Usually starts around round 7.

  18. Looks nothing like it. The MCC started the game of football "to keep cricketers fit in winter". We were the only club allowed on the ground. Yes it is crown land -we paid the rates over more than a century before it went into profitable territory. There is no dispute that the MFC and the VFL /AFL have profited due to our invention of/participation in/development of and largesse in the game of Australian rules. All councils parasite off the people who made the land a profitable space-in this case both the MCC and the MFC. There is no disputing this-I will not accept contrary opinions on this matter.,

  20. WLLLWLWWWLLLLWWWLLLL A very streaky record against Richmond. I choose to believe the tide is turning. I think our two 'gun' tall defenders are steadily improving, I think our radically different forward line solution is literal centimeters from beginning to work properly, and I think our clearance effectiveness will be helped by playing together in consecutive weeks for the first time at AFL level since last season! In fact, I'm going to rest my thoughts on that - this will be the first time this season that the team has played together in consecutive weeks, and we've implemented a whole lot of changes that need to be worked through. Calling it not - incremental improvement for the next five weeks and then brutal unstoppable dominance after that.

  21. I don't know whether he's the right guy either Duke but as an organisation I feel we have the right hands on the tiller at present. To hear that we're 'just' a million bucks (give or take) away from being an unassisted club is a really big thing for us. Particularly when recent events are factored in. That said I still wish that Peter Jackson was involved as he just had that 'take no prisoners' presence about him. As for this site I really enjoy the gallows humour from some of our witty raconteurs as well as the interesting facts and conspiracy theories from others. It's just a shame that so many of the current threads descend into that bottomless pit of negativity that Roosy used to mention, cathartic though it may be for some posters.

  26. I hope the AFL sit down and watch last nights Storm v Roosters match. Their product is light years ahead of us and far more enjoyable to watch. They are 2 of the best defending teams for a decade and yet it was fast, attacking, entertaining and high scoring. I'm a footy tragic in my 50s but my interest is at an all time low. The spectacle is putrid right now.

  27. Sure... I can't be bothered arguing it. But walk me through your stats @Fat Tony God, i dont even know Jake, or care for him that much.. I just think he is been unfairly represented. He is Alex Rance's height, 10kg lighter and im pretty sure Alex Rance was not fetted on as a 23year old, and he is on par with Sir Alex I'd be pretty sure in 2013/14 he wasn't the full back...happy to be proven wrong though. I may have just turned in to this bloke...

  28. How disappointing that we're not the first club listed when they talk about MCG tenants. The MCG is our home, the others are just squatters. (***enter @Sir Why You Little for comment...!!!***)
