  1. Absolute can not believe the news I've got this morning. Brisbane and Melbourne have agreed on handshake that rockliff will come to Melbourne for Dunn. We will give our first rounder for next year to Brisbane (which we bank on being 9-13) for Brisbane priority pick this year (19) as well as turning our second round pick (29) into a pick in mid 30s, which Brisbane are trying to get their hands on before end of trade week. This is also delaying the Hibberd deal. Brisbane will pay a portion of the salary. The only things holding this deal up are Brisbane not having a mid 30s pick yet, and rockliff not having results from a medical back yet. Melbourne in- rockliff, end of round 1 pick (19); mid 30s pick. Out, Dunn, 2017 Rd 1 pick (9-13) 2016 Rd 2 pick) 29 Source- both the new Brisbane football operations manager; and my uncle, fitzroy great, Brisbane scout and father of current afl captain. Oh and for any sceptics which I'm sure there are, this is out of the mouth of both.

  4. Can you pass on to Osilik, that Josh Mahoney sends regards from his holidays, where he is lying on the beach in the sun, doing nothing.

  8. Lewis will be a Demon. Hawthorn losing Mitchell and Lewis in the same trade period is glorious. (not to forget, the signing of Vickery for $500k a year)

  9. Well if this eventuates you would shoot to the top of the DL rumor charts. Incredibly detailed and name sources. Gold standard rumor posting. Well done sir (even if it falls over!)

  10. I suspect it will be pick 66 which is a fair deal. Mitchell, whilst a better player, is 1-2 years playing and was first pushed out the door. Lewis will be 2-3 years playing and is not being pushed now that Mitchell is out. Have a look at the hit rate of clubs between 66-75 in the draft and consider the maturity and leadership benefits of a player like Lewis and what Brayshaw, Trac and Oliver alone will learn from him. Then instead of considering him as an ageing star note that he averaged 26 touches and finished 2nd in a finals team B&F whilst we still had Bugg, M Jones, Grimes, Michie, Newton play 33 games combined for us in a relatively injury free year. This is without considering that he is a proud player with a point to prove in 2017 who WANTS to come and pull on the red and blue. Only MFC supporters could whine about this.

  11. Interesting little interchange on Twitter involving SEN and Inside Football's Brett Anderson and others. It's been going on for the past 24 hours:- Tony G: Has the landscape changed for us today on the Lewis to Dees? BA: Yep DaveD: Lewis will be at Demons next year StephenM: will it affect the hibberd deal? BA: nope StephenM: how will they get it done? BA: hibberd 2nd rd. Lewis maybe 3rd TG: done by Monday? BA: no idea (moved to a brief discussion on what the bombers will be doing in this trade period - not much) TG: Brett, I've just heard Rockliff to Dees. Dunn & picks involved. Have you heard anything? The last post was two hours ago but no answer yet from Brett Anderson. Perhaps Brett, if you post or view Demonland, we might cut out the middle man and get your answer here in these pages? 13. Let's be honest. He'd be keeping guys like Bugg, Harmes or Vandenberg out of the team. There's no two ways about it. He's a massive, massive upgrade on those guys. Anyone who thinks he isn't, doesn't know football.

  15. Hello everyone, I caught up with Lewis today and asked him the question that everyone wants answered.

  16. Nope, can confirm Harry dear, from adelaide, wants to move back to Victoria. Dees been all up in his grill since mid season. Unfortunately carlton want him with Gibbs trade. Not sure how that plays out but I know he is very keen on getting to Melbourne. I've heard he has toured but again, can't get any confirmation from my Melbourne connections.

  18. Repoted in the Age Asked if the midfielder would be happy to join the Demons should the move eventuate, Pickering said: "It's not done yet and we need to keep working on it. The reality is, let's all be mature about it, if it happens it happens." That's football talk for..... Deals done, working on which pick now. Hawthorn supporters shut your mouths and grow up.

  19. You'd have to think so. He's been one of the senior leaders for one of AFL's greatest ever teams. For those here who knock his (lack of) pace, the reality is that he's clearly elite in terms of leadership and he simply must have a seat at the table at this club. This story is so bloody exciting. It says something that, on an entirely unsolicited basis, his management approached us as the club he wanted to join. You'd have to think that the next 2-3 years for Jordan Lewis would have to be a lot more exciting for him at the Dees rather than the Hawks given this week's events.

  20. Imagine some of the games this seasons where we were close but no cigar, like the first game against the Hawks. His abilities would have helped us nicely.

  21. Notice the word "Seen" suggesting he's read it rather than heard it or been told it, fair chance he trolls Demonland. Brett like this post?

  22. I have been aware that we have been into Rockcliff for a few weeks, but there are many players never discussed on here that we are into and only a tiny percentage of these end in a trade. I was updated last week that we thought we were the front runner and were carefully considering his personality and likely to make an offer. That was pre the Jordan Lewis bombshell that came completely from left field. It's not everyday an elite but aging star knocks on your door and tells you he wants to play for you!!!!! Anyway, the other rumour of the day is most probably true. It could be an epic trading period..... one which we had no first round picks and were expected to do nothing.

  23. There is literally always one. I'm.not trying to be a hero, just keeping people in the loop with what I hear. Do us both a favour and don't read my posts then, I don't mind.

  24. I reckon if all of this comes to fruition, we should be aiming for between 5th-8th. Come the end of 2017, if we achieve that goal, I'll back our FD to land a big fish and go into 2018 with the aim of the top 4 and anything is possible in 2018. Given we started our rebuild under Roos in 2014, that's an incredible turn around. Just on Rockliff. If anyone believes Jones, Viney and (fingers crossed) Lewis would put up with any shenanigans from Rockliff, they're sorely mistaken. So I don't see anything wrong with this deal. In fact, it excites the hell out of me.

  25. I reckon it's best not to speculate about what Goldestein may or may not have done given some of the talk around. regarding Rockliff, i think a lot of his issues are Brisbane related, feeling he has to carry a terrible side and the captaincy not really helping his footy either, a fresh start at a team where winning is a bit more regular, the direction is clear and he can just be a player might be great for him, if we could get him for the price going around that the Lions would take i'd 100% be grabbing him

  26. Poster on the No T$ thread, that's right the No T$ thread, said the Lewis deal is nearly done and he will sign with us in the next couple of days. Said the info is from Warrnambool way and that is Lewis' family home area.

  27. Hawks have won a lot of games by small margins last season. The thing about Lewis - and one of the things he's disliked for by fans of other teams - is that when Hawks are under pressure, he's always in the thick of it, helping to pull the game out of the fire. Him & Mitchell & Hodge. This is what Hawks are going to miss - who's going to will them across the line when it's tight? This is the aspect of leadership we really need - how to find a way to win when we're really up against it. So for that quality to soak into the likes of Petracca, Oliver, Tyson, Viney, Hogan et all for 2 or 3 seasons will be just what we need to deliver on our talent & "potential".

  28. Fait accompli right now. But as I always say at this time of year, things fall all over. Doesn't mean the rumours were wrong.

  29. Nope, play hard ball, & stay the course with our 2017 2nd Rnd Pick for Hibberd. Hibberd will be a Dee. Have balls Dees.

  30. Adding Hibberd, Lewis and Rockliff for the equivalent of two second round picks, a future first round and a fourth round pick plus a depth defender in Dunn would be a massive signal of intent that we are not just shooting to make finals in 2017 but to go deep into them. Bring it on.
    7 points
  31. That might be why we are trying to trade our 2017 2nd rounder for Hibberd. Then we can keep pick 19 and 30 for this years draft along with those 3 players! Dream result

  32. Pointing gets a bad reputation. I know it originally came from selfish front runners who wouldn't pick up their man, but in the modern game the structures are so important (as well as the team's universal adherence to them) that good teams need strong pointers. All hail the 'Pointers'!

  34. If the Lewis and Hibberd deals go through we will be basically adding 462 games of experience to the side. Hibberd. 84, Lewis. 264, Melksham. 114 that should make a big difference to the consistency of output of the side.

  36. Notwithstanding his second in the B&F this year, Lewis' definitely started getting exposed around the outside of contests. Not often, but it started happening. That said, he'd improve us as a side, so he's well worth securing for a year or two. We're in the middle of a culture change and a player like Lewis can only help in that regard.
    7 points
  37. Yup, i'd go as far as saying the season Lewis had this year with the Hawks, he would have been top 3 in our B&F if not winning it, he was second in a top 3 side so it's not like the guys form has dropped off. still a jet. happy to offer pick 47

  38. I have to admit to despising Lewis as a footballer. He always came across as one of those pointing people, always pointing here and there for other players to do stuff. And his thuggery was often blatant, intentional and game changing. However, when he speaks to the media I really like listneing to what he says. He seems to understand all the nuances of what makes indivodual players tick, and was very team-oriented. I actually don't believe we need to import leaders from other clubs anymore, as we did with Daniel Cross which was a true masterstroke. What we need is a major progression from our younger guns like Petracca, Hogan, Hunt, Stretch, Oliver etc... But I have a deep down gut-feeling that Lewis would be a great addition, and would bring steadiness and leadership in game changing moments; something we have lacked terribly. I can't believe I am in favour of him coming to our club but it just feels really... right.

  42. Additional cap space this year from player departures, especially of Grimes and probably Dawes, both on big $$$. This year or next year more cap space available from player departures especially of Dunn and probably Lumumba, again both on big $$$. I would guess those guys add to somewhere close to $1.5m in cap space. I think our cap will be fine.

  43. The two big differences with most contracted players in the Lewis case, are that he has given great service and that they are telling him this will be his last year with them. It is very hard to keep a player you are telling you don't want the following year.

  44. I'm happy to overpay for him for his experience. Jordan Lewis experience not Shannon Byrnes or Gary Moorcroft experience. I got sick and tired of Roos blaming our youth and inexperience as the reason for most of our losses this year. Lewis, Melksham and Hibberd will hopefully get us out of the bottom 4 of youngest teams.

  45. People who think Lewis is too slow, or finished as a player only have to look at the Dogs for inspiration. Matty Boyd: 34 years old Dale Morris: 33 & 9 months Liam Picken: 30 years old They didn't think they would win a flag a couple of years ago and could've got rid of these guys. I'm sure they would be pretty happy they didn't! Smart players find a way.

  46. I know others have mentioned this already, but it wasn't that long ago we had young upstarts (who had proven nothing) such as Josh Caddy and Taylor Adams refuse to even talk to us when we were begging them to, now an absolute champ who isn't just willing to play for us but actually sounded as out for a contract. I feel warm and fuzzy inside.
