  1. One of my favourties... http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2016-07-15/kent-signs-on-until-season-2018

  2. Not sure why people bang on about fresh legs when we've come off a longer than usual break. Eight days. We're a full day ahead of St Kilda in regards to recovery and their game was a physical, pinball game of footy from the start right up until the final siren.. If anyone is in need of fresh legs, it'll be them. Melbourne supporters love excuses. We will win. We will be more physical and a lot tighter in our forward half which will mean they won't be able to slingshot as often as last time. St Kilda as a club are like a blow fly. They just hang around, are of little significance and they're annoying. We should put them to the sword early on.

  3. Long time lurker, very infrequent poster. Anyway, I spoke to Dunny last week and really enjoyed his honesty about being demoted and struggling with the zone defence, but also his determination to force his way back into the team and play finals with the Dees: http://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/17044795/melbourne-defender-lynden-dunn-frustrated-optimistic-playing-finals Cheers.

  4. So, a season and a half after we probably expected it, Gus & his good mate, Petracca will FINALLY get to run out together in the big time. No doubt, they will both be pumped! They now need to make it even more special with a win!

  5. Think people are underestimating Angus Brayshaws leg speed. He not even close to being slow.

  6. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's how they do contracts. Josh Mahoney yells from his office, "First in, best dressed fellas - get em' while they're hot".

  8. Speaking of finals (as some on this thread have been) a mate of mine has two tickets for this years Grand Final. One night's accommodation, prime seats in a box, food and drink etc, but he didn't realise when he bought them that this is going to be on the same day as his wedding - so he can't go. If you're interested and want to go instead of him, it's at St Peter's Church in Toorak Road, Toorak at 3.00pm. Her name's Louise.

  9. Fortunately for the experts on this forum their teams never get to play so we never know if they'd have done any better. Sorry chaps, I have more confidence in the pros who have more information than we do even if they make lots of mistakes. It is harder to make mistakes if you are a selector for Hawthorn.

  10. Has a hint of arrogance that I love (and would hate in opposition players). His surname is appropriate. This one was never in doubt, but I found myself grinning at this news.

  11. You gotta be kidding Stu! The 50's were the good old days. Good music. Uncomplicated world. The Dees won some flags. The only real issue was that the pizz was turned off at 6.00 pm.

  12. What the... When someone who joined up last month immediately launches into a passionate and at times angry defence of Essendon over the drug saga, including questioning the intelligence of people who disagree, whilst claiming close Essendon connections (including ones acquired through financial contributions), forgive me for being a tad suspicious. I personally couldn't care less if he says Hurley is staying, going, or remaining in Spain to become a bull fighter. I mean come on. This guy couldn't be a more blatant koolaid drinker if he had Hird as his avatar. It's not even remotely subtle.

  15. The question should be, is he the most important coach we've had? I think yes. He has set us up for success when we were on the verge of irreparable failure. I don't think anybody could have save us from the hell left behind by our previous administration like Roos has

  16. As a Demon's supporter all this stability doesn't sit well with me. I say sack him with one game to go with Brett Alison as the stand in for the last game. Purely just to cause confusion

  17. He's awesome. That was totally out of bounds though.

  18. And so the era of Petracca and Brayshaw tearing up the midfield begins.

  19. Remember a few months before Roosy was announced as coach, he did a mock Demon best 22 in the Herald Sun (i think) with a bunch of question marks in positions where we needed players? If anyone can find a copy of that Id like to see the team and how many of the players he named are still regulars

  20. Only got to training towards the finish but did observe the centre circle huddle at the end in which Roos, Jones, Stretch, Brayshaw, Wagner and Bugg participated. Using the head bowed / head up criteria (which I know won't be sufficiently robust for jnrmac and some others on here who demand irrefutable information sources unless, oddly enough, it's their own observation), Brayshaw is in and Stretch is out at a minimum. I think Wagner may also get a guernsey but perhaps that's as an emergency in case Omac doesn't come up (looked to be moving freely in the brief window of training I observed, as did Vince).

  21. Those comments from Dunn re: struggling to adapt seem to confirm what others thought: his move forward and subsequent omission after the last Saints game were due to a failure to play his role. I hope he works it out - it can only be good for the team if he's able to put genuine pressure on the young defenders currently holding fort, and force his way back in. He's got time, the skill, and hopefully the will. Good luck.

  22. if the afl want to have any credibility on social issues they first need to address their unhealthy association and reliance on gambling, rather than their feel-good, look-at-me tokenism

  23. For example, the list of banned PEDs they've been injecting their team with? This is all pretty simple. Hibberd is leaving and will most certainly be going to Melbourne. Essendon know this and are unable to stop it. So what happens next? Google Hal Hunter. EFC will make this as difficult as possible for Hibberd to walk unscathed. They will make it as public as possible in an attempt to shame him. They will make Hibberd the enemy so all EFC supporters hate him. Zaharakis doesn't fear his mate is leaving, he damn well knows it. He states there's a contract so a trade is required. Not true in the slightest and Hibberd can, and hopefully will, walk for zilch. This strategy achieves two things. Firstly it saves face for EFC. Secondly, and more importantly, it will discourage any further players from thinking about leaving to rival clubs. The harder it appears to be, the more reluctant each player will become. Something you said earlier regarding EFC having been punished enough. Not a chance pal. All of this goes to the one punishment that should have been handed out but wasn't. None of the banned players should ever be allowed to play for that filthy club ever again. Financial penalties, draft penalties mean nothing to a powerful club that can simply top up, or pay these players extra outside the cap as 'compensation'. The only way to prevent this from happening again is to force the 'tainted' players out of the 'tainted' club.

  25. Enright showing he's about as tough as that fl0g of an ex-teamate Wojincski throwing stiff arms into the back of Sutcliffe's head.

  26. I didn't realise how slow Mundy was until I watched tonight's game. Is Enright one of the biggest knobs playing the game?

  27. I'm not saying that mate. If we look at the Bombers game, as an example, practically the whole team was off. That wasn't down to selection. That was down to the mindset of the players. You can't 'select' for that.

  28. That angle I saw showed Dangerfield himself entirely outside the boundary, with the ball on the out-of-bounds side of his body. Unless I've misunderstood physics really badly, it could not possibly have been in.

  36. I still hold out hope that Essedon will one day be sued into extinction and have to fold. They dont deserve to have a place in Australian sport. Disgusting cheating immoral criminal club.

  37. Not going to argue, far easier to question my intelligence. Classy. May I remind you which one of us has been unwittingly (or otherwise) drawn into the EFC publicity machine. Yes we can agree though, we want him for nothing but it probably won't work out that way as the EFC, the EFC propaganda machine, the EFC legal team, and undoubtedly the AFL will be working against this outcome. An outcome I feel should have been a given from day one of a guilty finding, where none of the players would be allowed back to that club. Lastly, the EFC was eventually forced to backdown over Hal Hunter, as they'd overstepped the boundaries too far and public perception had turned against them. If they push too hard with Hibberd the same thing will happen and they will lose most of these players. It's a fine line and I don't feel they're smart enough to know when they're done. Interesting times ahead.

  38. I fell your lack of humility really rubs people like me the wrong way sometimes. When i say people like me i mean people who have only recently started to ponder their inner core beliefs, beliefs that were handed to us by our parents, that were shared by friends, family, colleges, everyone in our lives. Unlike some i really try to push past my inner beliefs and see things from others point of view, as you may recall from the Adam Goodes thread a little while ago and more recently the Caro incident. You belittle anyone that does not share your views, you put them down, insult them and make them feel excluded, outcast, so in a way, your tactless approach turns you into the very monster you are trying to expose, a bigot. Please try harder to understand that people are human and have beliefs of their own from all different sort of backgrounds and it is not easy to change your way of thinking and acting when it is something that is part of you, and do not forget, intolerance goes both ways.

  39. The way I see it, our defenders appear to learning how to defend again from scratch. Based on Dunn's comments, it basically renders all past experience obsolete and makes all defenders equal. If that's true; then reason OMac is in the side is because he is picking it up and applying it faster than Dunn (or Garland). Ideally you'd prefer your senior, more physically developed defenders playing while your young ones learn at Casey, but at present, because of the learning curve, OMac is the better defender in the side, so gets picked.

  42. For those old enough to remember. Ron Barassi clearly laid the foundation for Swooper Northey to come in and be successful. Very similar scenario to right now. He inherited a basket case. Went backwards to go forwards & jaded over a very different model to Swooper. Roos to Goodwin is very similar in my opinion. We will have a red hot shot at a flag within the next 3 years. It will be all about luck and taking our opportunity when it arrives. Good times are almost within touching distance. It's our destiny and we are due.......

  43. Dead heat for the rev and swooper. Both had to overcome having substandard facilities - a situation that just had to be a factor in neither being able to create a truly top side. Just on swooper - why did he get sacked in 92? Seems a bit harsh given it was our first year out of the finals in 5.

  44. Roos was only ever intended to be a foundations laying coach to start our journey out of the ditch. Can't compare him to coaches who were competing for flags in my opinion.

  45. Throwing a cat amongst the pigeons (or demons), but we are in the need for a forward / ruck and that Mitch Clark fellow seems to be on the outer at Geelong. Wont cost a lot to bring in.... He is really what we are missing down forward.

  46. 2016 Semi Final vs Adelaide at Adelaide Oval will be Roos last game as coach... after we rolled the Doggies by 31 points in the Elimination Final We go down by 7 points in a brave and brilliant performance, and its clear the next powerhouse club of the AFL has arrived.
