Gee petracca is lippy. Extremely confident lad...pedo clunks a mark.."too strong boahh!!!!!" Exclaims petracca. To weeds at the qtr time huddle "youve gotta f***in take that weeds" referring to his bullet kick earlier. Really like mitch whites game. Hes vocal, a good size with good footskills. Seems a leader. Garland on the other hand kicks it sideways when he gets it and said zero at the qtr time huddle. For a bloke in the leadership team in the seniors he just seems over it. Jaded almost. Trengove had his head over it and was knocked flat on his back. As soon as he was able to get up he did but fairly wonky. Poor mitch king was wailing on the field in quite a lot of pain. Anb amognst it but not notable, brayshaw aggressive as anything but i wish he would be a bit cleaner. Even running into an open goal he kicked a tumbler that was lucky to to through. Weideman a target but fumbly. Hulett unsighted, terlich is terlich. Jayden hunt might have something.14 points

Ok so i should kick this off by saying that this is a hard match to comment on because of how one sided it was. I felt really sorry for Frankston as by the last quarter they were just uncompetitive giving up 12 goals to 1. At times it looked like a training drill in the 2nd half after the Dolphins were at least competative in the first half where they trailed by 35. Frankston seemed to come out with an intention to be as physical as possible. Trengove was knocked out with his head over the ball in the first 3 min, King did his knee with a Frankston player sliding into him when he was bending down and both Michie & Pedersen were dumped after disposing of the ball in the first half. Didn't see any of that in the 2nd half however. Still, you can only perform against the opposition in front of you. So here's my take on how the players went; Christian Petracca: Kicked 2 goals and did a few very exciting things. There's no doubt he's going to be something special, but i hope they don't rush him. Wouldn't play him next week myself as there's others who were better tonight and after last week i think making sure someone is fully match fit is even more important now. At least another week in the VFL for me. Jack Trengove: Got a couple of early touches before being knocked out with his head over the ball by a Frankston player who should find himself with a fortnight holiday. Tried to get up straight away but was very unsteady. Will likely miss next week, but should be back in a fortnight. Three solid weeks from there could have him in the frame for seniors by Round 8. He was around at the 3/4 time huddle which was encouraging. Angus Brayshaw: Solid game in the midfield and he'll be much better for the run. Kicked 2, possibly 3? And looked dangerous when drifting forward. A loss tomorrow and he'll be in contention for a recall. Colin Garland: Didn't do anything wrong, however didn't have a lot to do. My one criticism would be he could be a bit more damaging going the other way. Nothing wrong with his game, but he didn't dominate. Cameron Pedersen: Thought he was very good. Split his time between CHF and ruck where he was needed after King's injury where he and Casey's Keilty competed very well against the much bigger Sikora. Kicked 2 goals, but could have easily had 4 or 5. Viv Michie: In my top half dozen. Dominated around the stoppages, used the ball well and kicked 2 goals. I found the fact he kicked 2 important as in the past he hasn't hit the score board which is a conncern for such a good VFL level player. Next step is to learn how to get more easy outside ball. Kennedy-Harris: Did his hammy in the 2nd term, so will miss a few weeks. Must admit i'm a little concerned. Didn't have much of an impact and seems to have stagnated. Sam Weideman: Kicked 4 and looked good. Strong hands, a beautiful kick, moves well and gets to contests and competes. Is he ready for a debut next week? Look if we were to bring a key forward in for next week you'd probably go with Pedersen first, and that's probably best for Sam's development. He's ticking the boxes though! Liam Hulett: Not the best game, made a couple of errors, but he competes. Would like to see him again before forming judgement, but my initial thoughts are he's a defender playing forward. Oscar McDonald: Best game i've seen him play. At half time i'd of had him as BOG, however the ball barely came his way in the 2nd half. Regularly outmanouvred and out marked his opponent, ran off them and used the ball well. Based on tonight i'd recall Oscar before Col. Jayden Hunt: Great game and first 4 quarter game i've seen him play. Seemed to play wing/half back. Used his speed to burn off opponents regularly and link up play with overlapping hanballs. After tonight he should be an automatic selection for any matches at the fast track of Etihad. Horses for courses! Alex Neal-Bullen: Would probably give him my 3 votes for BOG. Was in everything. Got the ball inside & outside, ran all night, had great hands in close and generally used it well by foot also. Now i'm not saying he'll even be half as good, but for me, there's a lot of Rob Harvey in the way Nibbler goes about things. He's a true midfielder, and this is where he'll play his best football. Mitch King: Was competing well in the ruck against the much stronger and more experienced Sikora, until a Frankston player slid into his bent knee right infront of me and i heard his ACL pop! Was horrible! Really feel for the kid and hope he comes back from it. He seems to have a good leap, so hopefully this wont effect that. Mitch White: Reports were he'd been struggling this pre-season. Maybe he just likes the season proper as i thought he was very good. Mitch, Oscar & Hunt dominated the first half with their rebound from the half back line and Mitch used it very well also, just like he did last year. He dropped two marks you'd of liked him to take, but touch wood Mitch is back on track to improve further this year. Joel Smith: Showed some signs. Took a very strong pack mark in the first half and showed some dash from the back line in the 2nd half. Watching his development will be interesting. Dean Terlich: Sorry to say, but a typical Terls game. Turned over several kicks in the first half that were cringe worthy. Kicked a nice goal in the 3rd term, but i think we all know what's happening here at the end of the season. Special mention to Casey players Tim Smith with 5 goals & several strong marks, Declan Kelity who went into the ruck for King, giving up 10cm & 20kg but competed exceptionally well and whoever nnumbet 30 was (not in the record) who was very energetic and in everything. Will be nice to see Casey on top of the ladder at the end of the round!12 points

Talk about a lippy Petracca! Lining up for goal and a 150kg Franky supporter yells out "out of bounds d**ckhead" Trac kicks it and turns straight around to the crowd and yells "what was that mate?" Brave. Or a little unwise.9 points

Came to see Petracca. Finds it easily, uses it, makes good decisions, clean, playing both inside and out. Pretty exciting.9 points

Show a bit more commitment mate - surely you can write it up on your phone with one hand while driving with the other! Priorities!8 points

Huge thanks in advance to any who can go tonight and provide a report. Looking forward to, hopefully, hearing that Casey and the players make a positive start to the year.8 points

Exactly. They did exactly what the seniors were too complacent to achieve last week, so this is a great result.6 points

The saddest part for me is that we still have to lose a winnable game and get belted by supporters and media for us to actually put in an effort that in Roos' 3rd year should be the standard.6 points

Sorry, I'm still back on page 5 - and I've counted literally 7 posts in a row of you saying nothing other than this. Ie, adding absolutely nothing to the discussion except carping and pissing and moaning.5 points

The stats don't lie! and Melbourne where as bad as they have been since Paul Roos took over, Ben Kennedy was the only player to meet the required work rate on Saturday, I am struggling to understand how a hand picked team of competitors can get smashed all over the ground by a team that was put together in December?!?! It's the coaches job to get the players mentally prepared for each game, and Melbourne rocked up on Saturday like it was still NAB cup! We are getting better, there is no doubt in that, some of our wins last year completely prove that! But there is some bipolar mind crap going on down at the club we love, can't help but think a fresh attacking mindset (Goodwin) couldn't come quick enough, I respect everything that Paul has done for us, the club and talent on the list is in a fantastic position to take the next step, but the yo-yo mental preparation that continues to happen needs to be addressed.5 points

Have you forgotten the same lame performances against the Bombers and Carlton in the second half of last season? Something like this happening once every few seasons is excusable but 3 times in less than a full seasons worth of games is inexcusable. Goes deeper than just a terrible performance. This is cancerous soul destroying stuff.5 points

If his game is anything like last weeks, he will need lots of pace to chase his opponent's tail all day who will be racking up the possessions. 4 Uncontested possies, 3 clangers for a net gain of 1 effective disposal last week. Oh, and 1 tackle. One of the worst games i've ever seen by an MFC player in over 40 years of watching. He could just about do anything he likes from here and still get a game. Put your feet up and relax Kenty....you got this!!5 points

I've unpinned this, as I think people seem to tune out of the pinned topics and it is being missed. Anyway, I've got night shift before the match so I'll be an exhausted zombie, I have crap seats, the weather is meant to be ordinary, the team selection makes no sense and I'm still in a god damn bad mood with the MFC after last week. The only variable that make things better is if the team plays good on the day. It's all in your hands, MFC!5 points

Regarding Petracca, I spoke with one of his mate last week. He says that he will play against the pies. There is going to be a massive turnout for CP5 if he plays next week. This kid has a bucket load of friends and family. Edit - My wife spoke to CP5's parents last year at the family day, they said he absolutely love the football club. We use to see him a lot as a kid, kid is a cheeky f#@$4 points

Sorry mate, I mis-read it! But yes, I agree. A one week response is good but meaningless if we can't back it up. With the way Richmond and Collingwood are playing you would think we are right in the hunt in those games. If we can get the confidence back up slightly then we have the opportunity to back it up in the weeks to come.3 points

After the train wreck that was last week's game, games like tonight are important for morale. The return of Trengove, the emergence of Weideman and Petracca give us something to genuinely look forward to. Hope they all get through safely and have good games.3 points

Back up what Saty? Gee you talk utter tripe. He is more than entitled to be disappointed, angry, frustrated etc. with our performance last week, and he is well within his rights to post it on a forum. It was relevant as he referenced how a side was playing today, which goes in the around the grounds thread. Maybe if you don't like it then you shouldn't reply and let it go through to the keeper. And the lack of speed we suffer isn't between the ears, it's on the legs they run around with.3 points
-
Don't forget: complains about people derailing his training threads while obnoxiously doing the very same thing here. It's a thread about the state of the league, people are entitled to discuss it as they please.3 points

Touchy arent we? Its a forum, you know, for discussion? I'll be sure to run by any topics I may want to discuss with you in the future. Or you could ignore it and move on. Either or.3 points

I could very well be wrong, but I think you won't be able to resist tuning in at least once or twice. As much as you are frustrated with the club and what transpired last weekend, you clearly love the Dees and care about what happens. Even though some posters on here disagree wildly with one another at times, we all love the club. Unfortunately, that means we suffer a little pain. But we keep coming back game after game, year after year because we are loyal.3 points

I've never been this filthy at the club following a loss almost a week on. I pretty much watch every match I can live and when I can't do that I record it and watch later. I think for my anger/stress levels, I'll sit this one out.3 points

Pick up my first division Tattslotto win, because IMO, they are the same odds of happening.3 points

Port beat them by 11 goals without five of their best players. It could easily have been a 20 goal loss. Highlights our lack of effort last week. One good quarter of footy would have beaten them last week. We hit the lead in the last, despite being killed all day. A 15 minute effort from that point would have given us a win. I am still angry a week on.3 points
-
its actually a bit worse than that, since mid last year we have played 6 games we have been expected to win, twice Bombers & Saints and once Blues & Lions. we beat Lions 8 goals to 4. thats all3 points

And here within lies a massive part of the problem. When is the last time melbourne really came out on the ground wanting to eat lightning and crap thunder, especially after a loss? I just want to be able to go to a footy match knowing that my team wants to win and will fight tooth and nail to the end, everytime regardless of the oppostion. I dont get that and havent since rev was maning the ship. Our team is happy to rest on the laurels of a single win (which was due to gws' abysmal kicking). Whoop dee do, crack out the champagne fellas. We went into the bombers game flat and lifeless and it was rnd 2. Norf will eat us alive given half a chance. Their supposed 'slow' midfield will carve us up. Anything.. anything less than 100% effort, 100% of the time should not be tolerated. Lets see how significant we really are. ..3 points

No use attacking Denham on this PaulRB. If you want to attack someone, debate my post. Ask many who left the G. He's right. Truth hurts. We are regarded as insignificant. It's not just one journo. Getting a bit sick about the young team excuse too. You can't excuse lack of effort.3 points

Their average games played is more than twice ours, even removing Harvey it is still a big gap. The only positive from looking at this is that unless they snag a flag in the next couple of years I get the feeling their is a big rebuild coming for the Roos before they can get close again.3 points
