  1. My suggestion to Eddie is that before he sticks his nose in other clubs' business he should make sure that his own players are drug free and toilet trained.

  2. Sad to see a great talent destroyed by injury and illness. I really believe he was on the verge of something great when he came down with that debilitating Lisfranc injury. What followed was a tragedy for the player and the club. I don't think you can say we ended up "dodging" a bullet because we went to great lengths and invested heavily in Mitch and lost out badly as a result of his long running injury and the mental problems that followed. I hope he recovers and gets some enjoyment from the tail end of his career. He's had a pretty wretched run.

  3. Some supporters will remember that we beat Port at Renmark by a couple of points in 2013 when James Sellar kicked 5. Have a gander at some of the other names that played that day: Magner, Tapscott, Davis, Terlich, Evans, Davey, Strauss, Joel McDonald, Sylvia, Gillies, Couch, Tynan, Spencer, Taggert, Nicholson, Barry, Fitzpatrick and wait for it ... Nathan Stark. The five players that remained for last Saturday's game included a very young Jesse Hogan, Pedersen, Jetta, Matt Jones and Kent. The job of transforming our list in 3 years has been extraordinary.

  4. Cheap reply. Didn't say $8.50 would hurt me (your basic maths is appalling) and the money doesn't go to the various people employed to work around the ground. It goes to Ticketek for doing SFA to earn it. The AFL promotes the games as free entry for members.

  5. People calling Pedersen a "Dumb Footballer" ha what a joke Guy gives his all. Blue Collar yes but we missed him last year after his nose was rearranged...

  6. I find the knocks on Garland bemusing. I can see his limitations but he is very consistent, gells well with the other regular defenders (which is critical) and can cover both tallish and smaller types. A lock for best 22

  7. And now ironically we have ended up with Kennedy who was the number 10 draft pick.

  8. While not under appreciated by the red and blue faithful, I think Jack Viney is massively overlooked in his progress and impact these past four years. On Saturday he Captained and led the club to a stirring from behind victory. He dominated Clearances with 10 clearances, twice the next midfielder (Tyson on 5 and for Port's best, Gray on 5) and more than the mighty Max Gawn (on 7) Disposals with 28 at 71.4% DE, 9 more than Vandenberg (63.2% DE), 6 more than Boak (59.1%) who was Ports best in this stat. At the start of the third quarter, the players huddled around him and he gave them the final rev up. Not bad for a 21 year old small mid who would have won last years B&F if not for injury... He's a ripper!

  9. The AFL players' top 50: 50 to 41 No idea who wrote it but great that Bernie and Nathan get this recognition. Bernie ranked 48 and Nathan 42. (With a countdown there may be others but unlikely). Very well deserved by the guys. It is another public acknowledgement that we are improving. I even saw mfc and 'destination club' in the same sentence in The Age recently! Bit by bit we are earning back respect!

  11. I know this thread is about Jack but just looking at our young mids Brayshaw, Viney, Petracca, Oliver, Tyson, Vanders, Salem, Kennedy, Bugg, Trengove, add in Jones and Vince, and Gawn spoon feeding them, So impressive the transformation of this club, Roos took over imo the worst side of all time and in 2 an a bit seasons has turned us into a genuine Finals contender with a huge level of talent, imo the best coaching staff in the AFL and an extremely exciting few years coming up.

  12. Apart from the half dozen others I know of who regularly scope and reconstruct AFL players knees. By the sounds, he's got a meniscal tear, which will have been reported by the radiologist, the person who is best qualified to assess the scans, not the orthopaedic surgeon. So guess what? 4 to 6. The only potential fly in that ointment is the possibility of a tibial plateau fracture to go with it. That would be months, so fingers crossed.

  13. In what way does he gel well with the other defenders? As a group, our backline was poor against Port. Our dominance around the stoppages painted over the cracks in our backline. And can you give me examples of when Garland has locked down a small forward recently? It's an urban myth if you ask me.

  14. Heard KB and Smith on SEN this morning saying it is time the media stopped the daily updates on what the EFC cheats are doing. Paraphrasing they said the media should be into the coming season not on this lot. It is hard to disagree.

  15. I'm still waiting for the clubs to take a heavy handed stand with, you know, the actual drug cheating club. Where's the outrage and condemnation? Oh right, it's Essendon, better keep quiet.

  16. His arms weren't pinned in the tackle. Therefore he was able to protect himself from impact with the ground if needed. He got up dusted himself off and played on no problems. So why the fuss.

  17. The AFL covers the costs of the matches, probably with help from the local governments, the local club involved and sponsors. That money comes from members buying their memberships, which are the lifeblood of clubs, which in turn are the reason the AFL exists. Plus the other stake holders then make the money back in food and merchandise sales. Ticketek can certainly be a business but I bet you they are pocketing that $5 on behalf of organising the tickets and then pocketing another $3.50 for the processing fee. I've asked the MCC before about reserve seating for games which is usually $15 and they assure me the ticketing company takes almost all of it. They are archaic businesses set up back when computers were the size of a room and printers cost a months wages. Big sporting leagues stick with them because they do free advertising and promotion and take away a hassle, but they are an absolute rort on fans. When you go to the movies you can book the ticket online and it's often covered in the price of the movie and you can print it out yourself. A small cost to reserve a ticket in this case is reasonable, but not $8.50, that's how much a preseason match should cost in total, not one that's meant to be free.

  19. Possibly just me but seems two sets of rules going around. If it happens TO a Melb player... "play on" ..nothing to see here...BY a Melb player.... hotline to the MRP !! Harlett leaves the ground to accentuate the tackle and thumping into the ground. I recall somewhere this is frowned upon... Result.. Brayshaw buggers knee... game goes on. Ollie lays a fair and legal tackle.. "without leaving the ground" ...opponent has hands free...and cops a fine Why hasn't the Port player been cited here ??

  21. I probably should have added "if they're in form". Whatever you think of Jones, it's been reported he's had a great summer. And he was also good against Port and in the intra-club. They're rewarding form.

  22. This whole saga gets weirder the longer it goes on. Now if you are found guilty of using performance enhancing drugs you get paid in full to not attend your workplace. You continue to train with a convicted cheat at a school containing children and all that is ok! but if a player tackles another and they might get hurt that is a $1000 fine. Now I get it cheat, lie, use PED's put the game into disrepute but for christ sake don't tackle hard. Stop the world, I want to get off.

  23. Wait wait wait wait wait. A high school? AFL players banned for drug use ARE TRAINING AT A [censored] HIGH SCHOOL?!?! After the AFL specifically told schools they SHOULD NOT employ any of the banned players? I mean, I know they're not being employed, but still, that's horribly contradictory.

  24. Funny how many don't rate ruckmen until they have a dominant one. On ballers become stars when they are spoon fed by a dominant ruckman. We may have a gem in Gawn. If I were in the midfield I would buy Gawnie lunch every day.

  26. I'm watching the replay of the 3rd quarter. The standout feature so far has been smart footy outside of the packs. Not always clean and perfect, but when we've got the ball players are running to space and moving the ball on, when we don't have the ball players are finding opponents and reading the play ahead of time to cover off each other. It's no longer mad chooks running around after the player with the ball. Play A will move up to pressure, player B will notice this and go cover the next player in the chain and so on and so on. Sounds simple, but it's a huge change from what we've been lacking and it comes about from having a group buy in to chase and pressure not just individuals. More overall speed certainly doesn't hurt either!

  29. One of the latest Fox ads has a little girl designating each kid in a lineup as a star player in the completion. The usual candidates pop up as she points at each kid - Pendlebury, Fyfe etc. Then all of a sudden..."Nathan Jones". I just about fell off my chair. It's nice to know he's as highly regarded in some circles as he is by (most) Demon supporters.

  32. On a slight side note, I just registered as a MFC member to get my assured entry to the Crazyburn game against the Bullies this weekend. Article on MFC website recommended doing this, as the ground can only hold 15 crackheads and a handful of pawnbroker shop scouts. Ticketec rort $5 for the registration and $3.50 for the privilege of printing the pass off at home. So much for free entry for club members.

  36. He does this a lot. Leaves his man but doesn't have the confidence to attack the footy. Consequently the ball spills free and his opponent (who he left) picks up the ball and runs away. People credit Garland with being a much smarter footballer than he is. 5 yrs ago he was, then he went through a brain fade period and I just think he has lost whatever it was that he had. Yes I know he was high up in the B&F in 2014 but there is something about his game that leads me to believe he will get passed quickly this year.

  37. I reckon the club will back the bigger more seasoned bodies. Stretch is a second year player that won't be rushed. If we had the current list (with fewer injuries) last year he wouldn't have got 11 games. Also, Matt Jones and Grimes got more than double the playing minutes than Stretch on the weekend. Stretch got 34% ground time compared to 72 & 77% respectively. The club has made it clear that it would be playing its best side where possible. Call it gut feeling, but I suspect the club has Grimes and Jones ahead at this early stage. As mentioned, Stretch has years on his side.

  38. I thought when I was typing all that that my memory could very well be wrong. It was definitely Balme which of course means it was pre knee. I really am starting to get old. I repeat stories, reminisce about the old days and make more sense of dee-luded's posts than I did a decade ago. Thanks for setting the record straight.
