I'm really struggling to think of posts of yours that don't 1/ offer anything but abuse, or 2/ offer substance. You seem to be the self appointed attack dog of Demonland. There is a BigFooty poster that reminds me of you, and I think it just might be. Loves dancing in Bay 13; loves a good troll; never (or on the assumption I've missed posts because I only go there when bored unlike here) offers a reasoned counter argument to anything, but instead runs with a 'lol only a moron could think / say that' approach. I hope I'm wrong, and apologise if I am, because that fella makes me cringe thinking I'll be associated with him if I make a post. But the style and syntax are pretty similar. I'm finding it harder and harder to enjoy this place these days because of people like you and others that have a similar mindset. I come here to learn about my beloved team, not to see you and others use it as a forum to point score on minor matters none of us have control over. It's no fun seeing the same ten posters attack each other because they drew battle lines on some obscure point in 2009. I dunno if this makes sense but how about we try something novel around here: attack the post rather than the poster. Y'know... present a deconstruction and counter argument rather than a 'lol dumbass'. Who knows... maybe it will catch on. Oh and apols to those that do take the time to make considered replies. It's those posts (agree or disagree) that keep me keep me checking in.16 points

Bugg is definitely in GWS best 22 as their number 1 shut down player. He has played 65 games since the giants started in 2012 which sits him at number 7 of all time games played since then. I would have thought thats enough to suggest that the giants have certainly rated him over the last couple of years. Only 22 years old but comes in with 65 games experience and will be an automatic best 22 for us. Will be a good get.9 points

I could. But when my uncle is a 3 time premiership player, captain of the club, ex CEO... and when the great Norm Smith was at my parents wedding... or how Ron Barassi jnr grew up with my dad... or how my nanna's funeral was full of 55-64 heroes as she was carried out... or how my cousin went out with Glenn Lovett before he was a regular in the side.... or maybe how if I went to a party on that side of the family then a 2 or 3 of 4 time premiership player by the bbq was nothing out of the ordinary. Yep, playing the 'who do I know' card. And playing it hard. I was a [censored] footballer but I know how a club works. Nudge does too. Now I have zero these days. Nada. But back in the day ( 90's ) I'd get all the goss, and what Nudge says is 100% correct. Some deals are done asap, but a lot are done or not done by millimetres. Him saying we are close to player x means just that - we are close to player x. That's it. Nothing is done until it is signed. I don't mind people bagging the club. Hell, I do it. We've made some bad calls over the years. But bagging posters that know a bit about how things really work is naive at best and idiotic at worst.9 points

If anyone wants back at the Pies for their Howe intervention, having a Weideman in our next premiership side should do it8 points

Bugg and Melksham will be best 22 for "nut busting" and Kennedy recruited because he played juniors with Viney at SA. He and his old man are genuine "ball breakers" from way back and therefore well placed to judge these credentials. The coaching staff are over picking pansies....me too. Edit: grammar5 points

Posted 17 August 2014 - 08:38 AM Jake Melksham should/could be a target. Hard and classy. Just what Roos stated we need. Believe he is disgruntled and looking for a fresh start. In his own words he 'plays best when given a role'. Pick 23ish should get the job done. Roos should get into bombers ear about a trade/swap scenario. I made that video in 2009, originally it was just meant to be a highlights package of Liam Jurrah but I added in some other Melbourne moments as well and took Liam's name out of the title after he went to prison. I was overseas at the time and didn't get to see much of Melbourne so I relied on snippets of footage on YouTube and decided put them all together to music. The "Dog Days Are Over" is a reference to the song used in the video which was popular at the time and worked well with footage that was available. Thanks for your feedback, I can't wait to see your efforts4 points

Hi guys and girls, I'm a long time reader but first time poster on this forum and just wanted to add my 2 cents on the Melksham deal. For me I think it's a win for the club, Melksham in comparison to Watts statistically speaking are almost identical since they were drafted although Watts is a year older. Jake was once a high draft pick (granted it doesn't mean everything) but it meant Essendon must have rated him highly in his draft year as we did with Watts. And both haven't lived up to their potential yet. So it begs the question would anyone on this forum happily trade out jack watts for anything less than pick 25? Personally I wouldn't and that's why I think Melksham deal was a good get. Granted I will say Watts has a higher ceiling due to his polish but with Melksham we will get someone who will give their all and not afraid to hurt the opposition (fairly) which is what a lot of you have wanted in our team in previous years. No I don't believe he will rack up 25+ touches every week and be top 5 in our B and F but I see a player who will go out and give his all and play the way the game should be played. I believe there is a negative view of Melksham not just because he hasn't quite lived up to his potential but just purely because he is a ugly bastard and he gets under your skin, maybe that's the sort of player we need in our back half to get under the skin of the opposition a bit. Just my 2 cents and no this post was not made to belittle Watts in anyway, I think Watts will be a star for the MFC.4 points

I'm not or using anything, other than optimism and public knowledge! Or close to it. Josh M would quite that if asked, Prestia etc being targets and has re Parker and Dion already. We have a need i.e. a grade decision making accumulating mid, so any who isn't totally locked up 100%, we will inquire about, big DEAL! Does that mean we will get any or all? heck NO!!! I gave up sharing data years ago due to ppl such as yourself not having the intellectual capacity to understand how his crazy insane and often joke of a period works, and how many players and deals get spoken about during this 3-4 week period. 18 teams, 40 odd players - 720 players total. I'd say at least 10-12 players per club are lairs as trades me when the first round of sit downs are done, maybe 15 even depending on the club and whom they're talking too as there's a lot of political savvy involved i.e. Melbourne hate dealing with Richmond going back years, Bombers won't deal with pies etc etc. anyways my point is, most of you can't seem to understand how this works. Each club sits with each other club or via Skype, and all have a list of assets broken down into sectors i.e. Tradeable, untouchable etc as well as list of needs i.e. "Outside speed, "grunt", "Decision maker", "Def Fwd", "Line breaker" blah blah.. They also have these lists for each other club and their own assessment of that list. When they talk initially it's all about needs so froth and each club learns agenda of each other club, then.. Flood gates open and names thrown about left right and center.. Of these hundreds of names linked or spoken about with 3-4 clubs each, so that's already 400 possibilities - about 10-12% will get any further than "spit ball" phase. Even then, only 2-3% will ever come to fruition. Not to mention the 50 deals that go right to the line and still don't get done.. It's incredible! So thus, mentioning them on such a forum instead of "cool info" it's treated as bloody gospel and your held that these "deals" actually happening which the odds of, are literally slim to none so it's dead mans game if ppl wanna hold you to every little word spoken by the footy dept's.. So anyway, I digress - I truly do blv our football club is in great hands and love the vision, which INCLUDES: Prestia, Parker, Gaff targeting etc.. Sure I can mention 15 players were inquiring about right now or this morning anyways, but why??? Despite always row facing with the same caution i.e. Don't expect many if any to come to fruition, ppl still want to make themselves feel good by shooting down information that I'm passing on that I thought as a demon supporter was pretty neat and handy to know what direction the club. Looking other than the PR given to the mass media. As through my business and line of work I'm privy to some by mere opportunity rather than exclusivity! Again, even though many years I'd post something and next day it'd be in mass media, but, because it didn't eventuate, that's MY Fault & ergo l, I am a [censored] talker wasting MY OWN TIME TYPING RANDOM CRAP JUST FOR KICKS! So bugger you and all of you negative, poor self image folks who want to ruin it for all. Such a sad state our culture has become, if it's not something we come up with do from our own hand, it must be shat on, just cus! Nasty. But, GO DEES!!!4 points

OH MY GOD! Enough negativity.. Well AFL.COM writing team used here demon sliding doors prediction as "some believe demons paid overs for a melksham, we think that in 12 months - Melksham for 25 will look real good for the Dees." I'm para-phrasing slightly but the half back plan works for me and trade period is barely underway, just wait! There'll be 50+ deals done this period, or close to it. Trust in the men paid to and passionate about returning this club to the top end, I do. Our new star is already there, 95% of "stars" are drafted, not traded for. Vines, Hogan, Brashaw, Petracca (better than any kid in this years draft and would be most obv #1 pick in history if drafted this year), Gawn, Tyson (basically used middle of season as his pre season last year, guy is a STUD - well ahead of Treloar In ceiling), Alex NB, Frost, Mcdonald inc Oscar, White will be a gun, King may be ready to play 2nd fiddle late this year, Stretch is so underrated here it's not funny & so forth.. Hogan,Petracca, Brayshaw are stars of future starting now, Viney may go down as our toughest and most beloved player of all time, mark my words - Tyson could be Hodge like with some luck.. Gawn is best young Ruxk in game. Let's calm down peeps! Plus - Bugg will get done, Rosa or Stanton are being considered for Cross like role, Bastinac was in frame maybe not now but one of Prestia/Gaff/Parker/Rockliff will be a demon 17' perhaps - so let's not throw the bath out with baby water just yet folks! Don't be shocked if Dixon comes into play, were sniffing about I know that much. GO DEES!!! Cheers4 points

So you value a 100 game player, who is the best high mark in the game and hardly misses a game, the same as a player with chronic hamstring injuries, who hasn't played a single AFL game in his two years in the AFL? Interesting!3 points

Don't have one; it's not really possible. You could have some sort of points system like the one you're using and a coefficient based on the perceived strength of the particular draft in question, but it would still be a flat number, not allowing for things like a sublimely talented top 10, but little depth beyond that. It will always be imperfect, so trying to apply any points system is inaccurate and a very rough guide at best. Trying to say pick 43 & pick 21 is equivalent to pick 11 will never work, unless a team is willing to accept that deal because of the players that will be available to them, or what they can do with those assets to get another deal done. Their value is determined by the market, not by a points system.3 points

Just throwing it out there, but considering the Pies have crashed the party on Howe, what's stopping us from going to GWS with this years Rnd 1 pick and next years for Treloar? Surely GWS would take the punt that our picks would be better than the Pies. We throw a bit extra (almost whatever it takes) at Treloar, because he'd be the A grader we're after and fits the age profile. If Treloar looks like wavering we go down that path. If he looks completely disinterested, no big deal, we go back to Pies and suggest they play fair on Howe or we persevere with Treloar, and look deeper into the dodgy surgery that's gone down. To me it's a no lose situation.3 points

Howe and pick 43 for Kennedy and pick 27 is completely underwhelming. Id rather we be assholes and let him slip to the psd.3 points

He's wrong on Kent who is highly rated within the club. Unfortunately, he's injury prone and doesn't seem to ever get a decent run at it. Stretch never wastes a disposal. Dawes won't take us further. Watts won't compete. I love the prospects of King who's a highly talented forward/ruck. It's an article that only serves to highlight that it's difficult to be fully across all 18 teams. C-3 points

All a press beat-up in any case: "Melbourne Football Club Doctor, Zeeshan Arain was able to set the record straight regarding the recent media attention speculating the entire playing group had adopted a Paleo diet. It seems players were presented with the option of transitioning to a Paleo diet, but the focus was to get players thinking about nutrition as a component of performance and to encourage the consumption of wholefoods. More accurately, the exclusion of processed foods would result in a shift towards a lower carbohydrate higher fat diet with players still consuming ample carbohydrate around game day."2 points

Are you serious? Before you try and shoot me down i grew up and went to school with a current collingwood player who i have mentioned a couple of times on here who was up here before he jetted off to Bali for pendles wedding and we all caught up for a beer and we talked about several issues and Freemans name came up and funny enough he is actually quite close to him. He mentioned that Freeman had been told several times this year to pull his head in as his professionalism had not been up to scratch. While they were disappointed he asked for a trade the club was more then happy to shut the door for him on the way out.He needs to pull his head in, easy to blame others when you're just at fault.2 points

That's an excellent point. It's not just about best 22, it's having guys just outside that 22 who can come in and offer significant replacement value. If you can get away with no drop off from your best 22 (ala Hawthorn), you are on the road to delivering consistent performances.2 points

With Prestia's manager intimating that Dion may return to Victoria at the end of the 2016 and with the Pies and the Cats already(well likely in the pies case) without first round picks for next year it narrows down the competition a little for us. Unless something eventuates this year I think we'll be keeping our powder dry by not trading any future picks so we can offer two first round picks (2016 & 2017).2 points

You'd have to be within the AFL fraternity to really know. Freeman's ceiling is a mile higher than Howe's. It's whether you punt on an unknown AFL quantity over a C-grader's 100 game output. If I was confident in Freeman's injury I'd take his upside.2 points
-
After their long injury layoffs, Trengove, Petracca and Frost are no way best 22 at the moment. Purely paper rating ATM. Need to show how well they have recovered. Bugg and Melksham are auto lock in until those guys can get on the park and perform.2 points

it's just a highly contentious fantasy points system all it does is waste countless hours of time and internet bandwidth with people arguing its fallacies and merits it was generated for one purpose only and that was to add a better degree of fairness to father son and academy draft accountability whether it achieves that aim is for future judgement trying to use it for any other purpose is fraught with problems use it for other purposes at your own peril but don't expect others to similarly waste their time2 points

I'd love a Milera Weideman combo personally. Would cover off some list deficiencies in one swoop.2 points

I take from that article that CAS are not just an arm of WADA. They will look at this case straight down the line and won't take any guff from either WADA or Essendon. Which hopefully will give a just and appropriate outcome.2 points

It looks like the Howe deal will go through Monday and Kenedy will be included. The Bugg deal will get done as it is a simple one for a pick. I wonder if we can trade up to 8 with GWS for picks probably including Bugg at the same time. If that happens can we then do anything else. Prestia/OMeara are reported today as staying. Can we become involved in Tomlinson. Is Gorringe an option? Can we do a player and 6 for 3 with GC? We will have 3.5 days to try something or is it complete something? Personally I could live with having 6 and 8 in the ND. If we miss Parish, Francis and Curnow would Weideman and Rioli be silly.2 points

Don't go because of the noisy minority that shouts down every one that disagrees with them, or even worse forms a posse to attack on every post people they decide aren't 'in the cool crowd'. There are far too many here that want to shout down the name of the messenger rather than read the message. I'm a long way out of the loop as my family isn't as close to the club's inner circle as it once was, but I know that what you posted earlier about trade week holds as true today as it did 20 years ago. Anyway post away, and know that many people read and enjoy posts like yours (regardless of the credulity they have) even if they never bother to reply.2 points

We were lucky to get anything for Clark. After retiring and then backsliding 6 months later we were able to at least get a player who, admittedly, didn't have much of a year but is much better than nothing. I fail to see how that's being rolled over. The Dawes trade was also part of a larger trade that landed us Hogan. And what we did trade for Dawes, pick 20 (Tim Broomhead) and Pick 47 (on traded to Norf who drafted Mitchell Wilkins), have done very little in 3 years. Dawes hasn't lived up to the expectations but he has done more than what we traded for him. I'm still yet to see this 'rolled over' business you're talking about.2 points

I will forever love this guy if he knocks out one Jeremy Howe in the opening 5 minutes in the QB clash.2 points

Yes I hope its more simple... Seedsman to Pies for pick 32 Pies give pick 32 and Kennedy for Howe Toumpas to Port for pick 29 Demons give pick 46 ish 3rd rounder for Bugg. Draft 6 (Curnow) 29 (Tom Cole) 32 (Ben Mckay) Ins Melksham, Bugg , Kennedy. Wait and see2 points

Collingwood can take a flying leap if they think they can give us that deal. Once again, we demand their first round pick. If they want to spend it on someone else, it's "Sorry Jeremy, they obviously didn't want you at their club after all. Fortunately we've got another club who'd be happy to take you..."2 points

Yes, play on words re baby and bath water but if a liberal puss take but perhaps it's too slick.. Haha! Take a stab? Well considering the club has those players in its sights isn't a stab as such, just a scope of the players were talking to. I'd say Gaff or Prestia most likely, and Parker not Hannebury my mistake - jet lag issue there I'm afraid, I'll edit if can be bothered, it's 5pm here in NYC & I'm feeling "meh".. The negativity is tiring, I hate the whole "wow is me, I'm the only suffering dees supporter, Wah Wah bloody WAH"... This current administration and footy dept hasn't done a thing poorly just yet so I'm not willing to smash them for past people's mistakes.. PJ, Goody, Roosy, McCartney, Mahoney - I like the vision and happen to blv in them with a high level of trust! Bartlett is a schrude operator too, trust me. Demons supporters, it's the rainy days and long winters that make the sunshine such a powerful, emotive experience - so enjoy the climb back - may be sooner than you think, or it may take 3-4 years.. Ask a dogs supporter this time last year how they FELT about the direction, total disarray this exact day last year - id list the amount of reasons but can't be bothered.. But that's footy! Hogan will re sign, have a crack at the JC with 60+ Goals, We'll share another 2-3 great players all of whom will be best 22 and have a role to play, Tyson will finish top 10 brownlow, Petracca will win the NAB RS or go close, kick 30 goals.. And who knows - we may even pull off Prestia & Pick 3 for Howe, first rounder next year and pick 6 But I didn't say that.. Lol (it's far more likely to be Howe & 6 for Dion only.. ☺️) I'm out.2 points

I know Demonlanders are going to eat this up. Anyone find it amusing, or worrying that on the AFL website, there are "Get excited by" videos for all the players moving clubs, but not one for Melksham. There is a Get excited by: Jetta Bennell Henderson Dangerfield Leuenberger Dean Gore! - he hasn't even played an afl game ....but not one for Melksham. You explicitly stated that "The Dawes trade was also part of a larger trade that landed us Hogan." It wasn't. Even if we were already looking at Dawes at the time, it was still an entirely separate deal. Collingwood had no involvement in the deal to get Hogan and we would have traded for Dawes whether that deal went ahead or not. I also question your claim that because Collingwood took Broomhead with that pick it was of little value. There has never been any indication that this is who we would have picked.1 point
