  1. Dangerfield met with Jones, Vince and Goodwin on Friday.

  2. This will be my last post on the matter but I managed to find out today that he did meet with melbourne officials. I didn't ask if he had toured aami park or not, however this is now as close to happening without a signature. He is quite frustrated at his treatment both in the media and at adelaide headquarters from several key coaches and members. I'm not going to list those but as it stands patty is 97-99% going to be a Demon.

  4. Furthermore, he sees the challenge of helping melbourne back up the ladder as a key factor. As well as being closer to home and the money, the chance to work alongside a stable coaching arrangment and be a leader are the biggest factors.

  7. I've evolved over the years in regards to forum rumours. Early days: gullible, believe any rumour I heard, get excited, feel bitterly disappointed when they didn't go through Middle days: refuse to believe anything, get annoyed every time someone posts hearsay Recent days: Believe the rumours I like the sound of but understand they could be crap, keep emotions completely divorced until things start to pan out. Enjoy the ride, never feel disappointed, but feel ecstatic when things actually come to fruition.

  8. The justification detailed on the MFC website is actually infuriating for how much spin/BS/propaganda it contains. I didn't think we would receive a pick (as the AFL are a bunch of compromised wankers) but I am staggered at the reasons supplied and the fact they would put something like that in writing to us; Their first point directly contradicts the supposed criteria they referred to when changing the policy. Initially they stated the decision would be based on on-field performance over a number of years not a single or consecutive years. We have been poor by any definition for 8 years now and although this season was an "improvement" on last season it is only due to the fact that our 2013 season was one of the worst seasons on record. Our performance over the last 8 years is worse than Fitzroy's last 8 years and one of the all-time worst periods for any club. Under the old criteria we would have qualified for a before first round PP last year AND this year. Before we had played Fremantle, Hawthorn or Geelong, 3 of the top 4 teams. So we fell over the line against Essendon and beat Richmond, both games in which the opposition had more scoring shots and dominated the inside 50's. Even in their worst seasons poor teams have upset wins, that doesn't mean they are necessarily "better" than the teams they beat otherwise we could say we beat Richmond, Richmond beat Sydney therefore we should be grand finalists. We were close in several other games, and lost. Only wins matter, getting close is irrelevant. And the win/loss column shows we have won 38 games in 8 seasons and 10 games in the last 3 seasons. I have no idea who they're referring to here? Trengove? Had a very poor year in 2013, no evidence he will return to regular senior football. Hogan has never played a game. Clark "retired" and we will soon lose him for peanuts. Impossible to argue they are "key" personnel. A couple of years ago we had Watts, Blease, Strauss, Morton, Gysberts, Tapscott how did that turn out? No guarantee any of these kids will make it and it is unfair in the extreme to lump the clubs hopes and future on them and actually NAME them in their justification. I was astonished they actually did this, amateur in the extreme by the AFL. Michie and Riley are unproven and irrelevant to the conversation, just because we traded in some mature players who were on the fringe at other clubs doesn't mean anything in regards to the argument for a PP which is based on on-field performance. Similarly the fact we traded in 3 guys who were all top 5 in our B&F shows just how putrid our list is. Not to mention Cross is on his last legs and Vince is closing in on 30 and we had to give up pick 2 for Tyson - so basically we can bring in senior players other clubs are willing to lose and lose our best prime aged players to FA i.e. become a feeder club. The only real long-term "win" of that lot is Tyson and we need currency to get more players like him which is the reaosn for the request in the first place. Even with all these guys coming into the team we could still only win 4 games and finish 17th. Again what an idiotic argument, any club can trade players or gain a compo pick through FA, this is a zero-sum game, it does not improve our list and due to the fact we will likely receive extreme unders for Clark and will lose an AA full back for a speculative pick we will more than likely be worse off not better. Again this is all irrlevant to the on-field performance of the club which is what the criteria should be specifically assessing. This doesn't even mean anything - so because we have appointed an untried assistance coach to be mentored by Roos and take over in two years we will magically improve? This more than any of their reasonings is pure spin/BS. Not to mention the "potential benefits" of the FD cap and luxury tax and not even identified let alone quantified. Again ridiculous considering they are meant to be working by some "secret" yet "objective" criteria which specifically refers to poor on field performance over a number of years not to mention the fact that the AFL RULE BOOK ITSELF SPECIFICALLY REFERS TO ON-FIELD PERFORMANCE as the only factor specifically referred to in the rules. If this does not constitute "exceptional circumstances" then I fail to say what could. Again I did not expect a pick so I am not surprised I am however infuriated at the BS and specious reasoning provided by the AFL.

  11. Time to move on. We should call for the scrapping of all draft interference effective immediately. The end to COLA for interstate clubs. The end to Academy selections. An equitable fixture, giving all clubs the chance to maximise revenues. The end to any extra draft and list benefits to GC and GWS. An end to the PP rule.

  13. As will Watts. With a decent midfield around him. As Priddis very modestly said in accepting the Brownlow - "it's easy for me, I'm an inside mid and just have to win the ball. I can control my performance much more easily than the guys on the wing or at half forward are able to". Many posters here seem not to get this with Watts. Fortunately, Roos does.

  14. The AFL have moved away from equalisation and are working on something much more important. It's called match day experience, real cutting edge stuff to get the fan involved in footy. This is the type of stuff that's top of mind with Dill and DH Evo along with conflicted Mike. Dill's also working hard on the price of pies and chips.

  15. I am sorry but this time around I can't shine any light onto whether there is any truth to rumour that Danger to MFC deal is close to being agreed. If true I am a little surprised it is out pre GF. As I have previously mentioned I can confirm the MFC are making a play and have been behind the scene for much of the season, but that is all I know. The only thing that could excite people is that both my sources (1 admin, 1 board member) have failed to take my calls today. Maybe my time as a reliable inside source of info is over, then again maybe.........................

  18. After the results of our Dom Tyson deal last year, I can't even understand how any MFC supporter wouldn't back Roos in to continue trading our top draft picks for established players. It's a complete no-brainer. We have seen high draft pick after draft pick fail miserably and end up on the scrap heap, because we had no seniority in our list to develop them. We've got a 3 or 4 year drafting black hole inside our list now, and this year's delisting of Strauss, Blease and Tapscott round off that sensational period of failure. Bring in players from other clubs from the same years who actually eventuated into AFL-grade players and we might find ourselves in the position we belong. Hawthorn and Sydney did not get to the top of the ladder with picks inside the top 5. They got there by poaching the talent from other clubs, and brilliantly developing their later picks by introducing them to an environment of talent and experience. Roos is trying to do the same thing here, but he needs a few more years to get the system on a roll. 22 Petraccas will not save the MFC.

  21. The most hilarious assertion this biased imbecile makes: "Watson was adamant every other club would fight tooth and nail to clear their names as Essendon has done." Um, what? Your precious club just failed in a doomed legal case predicated entirely on getting themselves off the hook ON A TECHNICALITY. At no stage whatsoever have Essendon tried to clear their name. At every single junction they have destroyed records, put up roadblocks, hidden the truth, denied assertions without any evidence to back themselves up, and sought countless injunctions and lawsuits to delay ASADA from getting on with the process of discovering the truth. As far as I'm concerned, Watson is utterly compromised and should not be providing a voice in the media on this subject. He's nothing more than a mouthpiece.

  23. Not sure if I can post all of this message from a FB Page so I'll leave out what might be contentious but a Demon fan was travelling home from FNQ and sat next to Spencil on part of the flight yesterday. Made the following notes (some of which have been redacted): 1. Chip is gone. Likely to Geelong, hates the travel that Freo would force 2. Wattsy loves the club but could be offered up for trade 3. Crossy goes alright on an end of season trip. Boys had a BIG one in Bali. Bernie, loves a drink. 4. Harry-o is almost a done deal. We will speak to Malceski. 6. Good times Grimes, getting married just after xmas. Ripping bloke, really serious cat and should retain captaincy next yr. 7. Roosys man-management is his strength. He keeps things simple. Sarcasm is his weapon of choice. 2 incidents talked about (Dawsey kicking into the middle against port / Howe having a shot from 70) - both players dragged, both players sarcastically 'applauded' for their decision making. Roosy also tore Terlo and Mr Bean a new [censored] over the Rolf Harris incident. 8. Neeld was a rubbish man manger. 9. Schwaab was a rubbish communicator. 10. PJ dominates. 11. Dawsey the sharpest bloke at the club. Real switched on unit. 12. Preseason is going to be a [censored]. 13. Pencils ankle better and will be raring to go at the start of preseason. 14. Ben Hudson is 1 of the harshest sledgers Pencil has played with. Reckons he's a real [censored] bloke. 15. Speaking of [censored] blokes, Hawthorn are arrogant, especially Roughie. 17. Rookie listed players are on about 40k p.a 18. Pencil can bench 140kgs. Chip leads the club ~160kgs 19. Aaron Davey didnt want anymore kids after his 3rd. He then had twins lol 20. David Rodan is struggling with the Waltz on dancing with the stars. His knees are shot. 21. Melb Victory boys are tossers - except for Archie. 23. Roosy has a magnificent house! 24. Hogan is an animal. Will be a super player. 25. Harsh for expectations to be back on players to question doctors about injections. If the doc clears it, that should 'clear' the player. 26. We almost had Dank play a role with us. 27. Pencil was visiting family and not visiting GCFC or the Lions 28. Pencil loves MFC. He'd love to spend more time up forward. 29. Nicknames you may not know: good times Grimes, doug (gawn) and chuck ( N jones) 30. Umpiring decision , 1-2 mins to go, last night was disgraceful, robbing Port of a potential GF appearance.

  25. The best teams have great midfields. Deep, strong, multi-faceted midfields, invariably with a dynamic star or two. They can make decent forward lines look good by controlling the ball, and they can allow average defenders to make a great backline by keeping the ball out of there. I know Dangerfield is a dynamic star in Adelaide's midfield right now. I don't know what Pick 2 and Pick 3 will be in 4 years time, when Jones is 30...

  29. Yeah, how dare we ask for the rules to be enforced. You want attitude? Fight to equalise the league. If we are 'on our own' then let's get everyone else 'on their own' - no academies, no COLA, and a fair fixture. When the big clubs benefitted from the draft assistance rules, it was enforced. Now that the don't benefit from it, they are fighting it, they have won, and now we wander out into the future with a list so scarred the AFL hasn't seen it before. Roos has to get Dangerfield, Viney and Taylor have to hit every pick out of the park, and we need a Stretch or a Lovett to give us a leg up. Because the league that we are a part of won't.

  30. - The AFL concluded that while Melbourne has a poor on field record in recent times, this does not of itself constitute “exceptional circumstances” Yep, the AFL thinks it is "normal circumstances" for us and that they are happy if it should stay that way forever.

  31. It is completely idiotic, amy club could gain picks through trades or FA compo - what about the fact we will get unders for Clark? What about the fact we will lose two of our senior players/leaders and have to replace them with more rookies? What about the fact we are losing two of our key position players both of whom have been AA in the past?If the NFL season ran parallel to the AFL season I seriously doubt I would even bother with the native game anymore, the administration of the competition stinks and is so corrupt it makes the major political parties look like they have integrity. Equalisation doesn't exist anymore, there are token efforts but at the end of the day the league is now completely manipulated to generate desired outcomes. We are irrelevant in this league now, it is all about the big Vic clubs and those north of the Murray as that is where the dollars are. Just look at the AFL's comments last year after Port knocked the Pies out of the finals, they were upset because it was going to "cost" them a million bucks. Disgraceful. Edit - sorry for multiple posts, on my phone.

  35. That's the point. They don't have a clue what they took. The defence of 'we don't know what we took but we know it wasn't illegal' doesn't wash with ASADA. That they still spout this line is quite simply breathtaking. Every sport in the world would try to get away with that. Imagine the Olympics if every athlete said I was duped by my coach. It would simply not function. They signed waivers for a banned substance and the paper trail says dank ordered it and it was supplied. He told The AGE journalist that he had administered it. The club admitted they ran a bad regime,. Ziggy confirmed the major details. They even sacked the Weapon for administering a dodgy program. They haven't got a leg to stand on. Everything todate is just fluff and stalling till they can turn their list over. The world is watching and the world is sick of waiting for action. They are cooked.

  36. We were not found guilty of tanking. Did we tank? Of course we did. Was the penalty fair? Yes. Should other clubs also have copped it? Yes What should we do about it? Nothing, move on. We were not weak we were pragmatic. You are absolutely right when you say, you have to know which battles to choose. We did, EFC didn't. Remember what came out of our penalties. We received a fine, we received a hand out from the AFL, coaches and administrators were penalised, we received Paul Roos and Peter Jackson. We took it for the greater good. EFC !!!!! what a bunch of narcissistic fools. Don't poke the bear!

  42. The usual warning should be applied to this article. It was written by Essendon acolyte Chip Le Grand who predicted a little while ago that ASADA's case was falling apart because the Federal Court was about to prevent it from using player testimonies.

  43. Exactly so, Jack. All this whingeing about the evidence (collected by an agency charged with the responsibility of collecting evidence) is just another attempt at white-anting public perception of ASADA by Essendon's fifth (rate) columnists. Coz they were so successful with their various other interventions, like the brilliantly incisive readings of the Federal Court proceedings, ASADA legislation ... in fact, everything. My sympathies for the players are rapidly evaporating since they seem determined to join themselves to this nonsense about the evidence instead of recognising what the proper procedures are and accepting that the quickest way to resolve the issues is to allow these to be followed.

  44. Yes, vastly different situation with the Saints. They're in full rebuild mode and they're clearly going the youth road. Perhaps foolishly if our previous endeavors are any indication. Roos has only two more trade periods left on his watch and he'll be hellbent on making sweeping changes that improve the list sooner rather than later. He knows we can't wallow at the bottom of the ladder for another year. As for the trade earlier, best sweetener would be upgrading their second rounder by 8 picks, if they aren't satisfied. We give them picks 2, 3 & 22. They give us Danger, picks 10 & 30. Trade pick 30 for Lamumba, that should satisfy the Pies. Take 10 to the draft to keep injecting youth. Third rounder on Stretch. Fourth rounder for Frost. Trade out any players that don't cut it for the best draft picks/players available (so Blease, Strauss, Tapscott). Trade the likes of Watts/Toumpas/Trengove for more established players if necessary. Pick up another one or two DFA as required.

  45. LET'S DO THE MATHS! I think we have to calculate how Adelaide can get a better deal this year than if they are to lose him to Free Agency next year. If they lost him next year to us or anyone else they would get a band 1 compensation - on the basis it's still around. That would be the pick directly after their first pick in the 2015 National Draft. So if they were to finish on the bottom of the ladder - with Dangerfield playing at the crows in 2015, they would get pick 2 (only) as FA compensation. In saying that if he played there next year (alongside Sloane, Walker, Talia, Smith, B.Crouch, Jacobs, etc.) I highly doubt they would finish anywhere in the bottom 3 let alone the bottom 5. Therefore at best, they would be getting ~ Pick 6 for Dangerfield in 2015. So pick 2 alone in 2014 could honestly be enough, that is already far higher than what they'll be getting in 2015. However a sweetener (like a player) will be required because what would stop the Saints jumping in and offering Pick 1. In saying that pick 2 and 3 is completely ludicrous! YES I want Dangerfield as much as the rest of you, however based on the mathematics, pick 2 & 3 bares far too much currency where each can be used individually to attract an A or soon to be A grader of the competition with additional player or later pick sweeteners.
