  1. To all on here, STOP HYPERVENTALATING! Roos made it very clear that he would not interrupt the celebrations of the 2013 season by formalising his appointment before the B&F. No doubt WC will put in a phone call but as WC expect he will politely immediately reject their invitation. The reason for this is that he has already decided to coach Melbourne. Roos is not motivated by money or a better list, he wants to coach Melbourne because he sees us as the ultimate challenge, he believes he can resurrect us and do this quickly. If he succeeds he will become the absolute legend of the modern era. An announcement will be made before Wednesday but probably before this. I am told the club is aiming for tomorrow, but this will depend on whether Roos is ready and all fine details on the contract concluded. Roos has been actively recruiting his team, I understand it includes Ling and a couple of other beauties. Roos may want to wait for his family to be back before the big announcement as he has suggested, in which case Tuesday, but he will be coaching us. Now take a couple of deep breaths, smoke a fat one if you have to, and enjoy a good nights sleep.

  2. That's good for Neil, who is a good bloke and good for us. $400k saved and a person of integrity leaving and not being pushed out in a poor manner. Respect all around.

  4. But given Roos' past comments he is more likely to say the opposite and say "Sorry Jack, you've had a rough time but I can make you a better player". What will you say then? Sack Roos? As I've said before, if we get Roos and he wants Watts, then that is good enough for me. Certainly better than what any posters here say. Ditto if he doesn't want him.

  5. Roos can't sign for west coast if he is locked up in PJ's basement.

  6. Lol, that table reminded me of a pokemon stats page. Hogan used Versatility! It's super-effective! Boyd has fainted.

  7. Occurred to me that if you were an ambitious assistant coach you would be jumping at the opportunity to join Roos at Melbourne. The main reason being to learn from an experienced senior coach how to develop, lead and rebuild a team from the bottom of the ladder such that they can assail the top of the ladder. Given new senior coaches are generally appointed to struggling teams at the foot of the ladder learning how to take them up is the core skill required of any new coach. I suspect that MN having spend his apprenticeship at a successful Collingwood never fully understood the challenges of taking a team from bottom to top.

  8. IMO we have two players with sublime ball skills. Sorry one, the other one just retired. While JW has deficiencies he has some attributes that few others do. He can actually kick a ball to a target. He will develop physically and under a new coach this 195cm, quick player with great skills could develop into a very good player for us. Lets test our development and show some faith in the new FD to improve this bloke, he really could be anything.

  9. Sorry if this has been reported elsewhere, but the following appeared in an article about Carltons search for a new midfield coach: 'Swann said the club had a shortlist of targets, but would not expand other than to say Carlton did not believe ex-Geelong premiership captain Cameron Ling was available.' Promising!

  11. For all those wanting a nudge nudge wink wink from someone involved with melbourne look at it from another point of view. I could imagine PJ giving an absolute bake to all staff stressing that if we want to be a professional club act like it and keep ya traps shut! I see the no whispers as a good thing. Journo's are guessing because for the first time in a bloody long time they have no inside information from us.

  12. The end for Worsfold If Roos goes to WCE in the 11th hour then some of the posters with "inside info" might get a permanent banning out of pure frustration.

  13. Normally that would be funny. But I've been waking up in the night to check the Hun, Age, twitter, Ology and Land for any news. My nerves are too frayed for any shenanigans. But well played sir.

  17. In the Hearld Sun article in early August where Roos outlined his plan on how to turn Melbourne around, he considered Watts our most important player moving forward and vital for any new coach to re-sign. Under Roos Watts will not be traded unless he askes to be and the chances of that under Roos are slim. Interestingly in the article Roos also expected Melbourne to receive #1 draft pick as a Priority Pick. Irony aside Roos stated he would put this pick (Boyd) or pick 3 up for action for an elite midfielder or 2, A Graders aged between 22 -24yo. I expect we will receive Pick 1. http://www.thefordhamcompany.com.au/paul-roos-herald-sun-column-22/ After re-reading this article it was clearly a 100 day plan, outlined to the board and PJ.

  18. He wasn't shafted and it wasn't before his time. He was 34 , had been injured most of the second half of the year and it was suggested that he should retire, rather than possibly playing out the end of his career at Casey. To say it was way before his time is just plainly wrong.

  24. The real intangible with Hogan is his aggression and competitiveness. You simply can't buy it, and it makes all the difference.

  25. Nowhere in the manual to "Build a Great Culture" is the chapter "Trading the 18 year old Star fans already love" I honestly think we have been so bereft of good, sound decisions these last 7 years that MFC fans wouldn't know one if we landed one in a mini-draft.

  26. I can just imagine Eddie McGuire and Mick Malthouse sitting down at the end of the 2005 season when their team had strangely lost their last eight games to just fall into a position where they won five games (percentage in the high 70s) which was exactly enough to score them a priority pick. Eddie: Mick, I know we're entitled to a priority pick but I'm conflicted. By taking advantage of the rule, I think we're doing something that's immoral and unethical. I feel bad about it. We don't really deserve the extra pick and anyway, it won't do anything to help improve the team. Mick: Eddie, Confucius said that the ox moves slow but the world turns even more slowly. I've sent blokes off to hospital early, played Sav Rocca in the midfield and given games to some spuds who never in a million years deserved to put on the black and white jersey. We've got the chance to pick up two 18 year olds called Thomas and Pendlebury who are going to play in our next premiership team and you want me to give one of them away to Hawthorn? Get outta here. Eddie: I was only jokin'

  28. No wonder we lose so many games. The players are just like D'Landers. Collapse under pressure. I reckon we've had about 50 goals kicked against us in the past 15 min. Slow it down and control the game. Play it under our terms.

  37. I'm on the horns of a dilemma. A ban of some sort would seem warranted but I'm still the coach of the demonland/demonology footy team, we have a big game coming up against bomberblitz and dazzledavey36 is my best midfielder. What would Paul Roos do?

  42. I hope the MFC has thrown Roos a little sweetener. Jazza will give Tammi and the kids a free, 5 day tour of the Otway’s with stop offs at all the Colac & Districts footy grounds. Who needs Bhutan when you have Forest, Irrewarra-Beeac, and Alvie.

  43. Actually, if I recall correctly no-one on here reported that Roos had met with the staff... someone said the staff had been addressed in a meeting and informed that Roos was coming. The only mention of meeting with Roos, was in relation to the leadership group.

  45. Well I have been thinking about this for some time and have seen that there is a diversity of opinion on Jack so will add mine I admire the courage of a kid with a diverse skill set accepting a number one ranking knowing the scrutiny this would place himself under I admire the courage of a kid double and triple teamed, monstered by an opposition set on intimidation in his first match, with little support from teammates I admire the courage of a kid surrounded by teammates without his heightened skills unable to use him to advantage I admire the kid turning up week after week being thrown around by coaches wanting to cover deficiencies with one of the few skilled resources they had I admire the courage of a player not throwing himself into situations that would result in injury I admire the courage of a player not lasing out and being suspended I admire every player who pulls on the demons jumper knowing they will receive little support from the umpires when they are shoved in the back or hit in the head I admire the courage of jack watts in taking the time to consider his future career possibilities when he is about to enter the most critical stage of his career development I hope the club get this right so that all Melbourne supporters can continue to admire his courage as he helps our team to some long overdue success

  46. The PP gives clubs a chance to select the very best young talent. That is a competitive advantage over any other team in the comp. Every team is trying to gain any advantage they can and some of you don't want that advantage? You can't be serious. There's no need to be frightened of a PP. We haven't had to tank to receive this one. We're simply rubbish. We're finally getting the staff together that can fully utilise this advantage and ensure we draft and develop this talent properly. I think we should and will get a PP. I will welcome it, because I want my club to have any advantage it can get. If you'd prefer to hamstring your team, so be it.
