  1. Matthew Lloyd is crying that he's had Enough. Wait until the Bombers have been put through the wringer by every man and his dog for 6 or 7 months with leaks of evidence given by former insiders, many of them with axes to grind, opinion pieces from people with vendettas, others who simply don't understand the issues and still others who want to be mischievous. "Enough!" This happens to just be the beginning.

  4. After Sheedy left, the power vaccuum happened @ Board level. Knights was shafted in order to get Bomba back, & Hird in. The old board were shuffled aside, & the Bling Board have brought this on. The superficiality of modern footy is Killing this once great game. Reduce the Interchange to 2 + 2, & let the game return to its origins. Players will stay in their positions mostly, & it will be more entertaining. One on One matchups. Star on Star, instead of tag team stoppers rotating thru the bench. FFS, bring back Footy!

  9. i understand what you are saying but it is based on a corrupt threshhold, like so much that is part of the AFL operation. We do a deal on penalty, to save the AFL face for a misguided investigation, I am sure the media would see through that. As much as that stinks, you would have to look seriously at a deal though. What if CC for example was agreeable to a bringing the game into disrepute by making flippant remarks charge and fined $10000.00, with half suspended and no other charges. I am sure that deal would be embraced. BTW as the rules of natural justice require you to be allowed to face your accuser, call your witnesses and evidence and test the other side's evidence, who would hear the case if we deny the charges? A case like this could go for weeks and surely the Commission couldn't hear it, nor have the expertise to, aside from the Family Law Judge on it who would have her own work to attend to. It seems to me that the AFL would have to set up a new tribunal to hear the charges. More expense, more mess, more waste of AFL resources and more distraction. Yes I can see a deal coming or the book being thrown at us, to justify their position and then the charges being dismissed by the Commission.

  10. People who want to 'hang' Connolly are in my eyes looking for an easy way out. You stand by your people. The club won't hang Connolly out to dry so it's a fruitless argument anyway. The next part of the saga is about to be played out and this is where the club needs to be at it's strongest. What the hell has Connolly done wrong? You can't hang the bloke because of a flippant comment involving 'Zulus'. This comment is somehow bringing the game into disrepute and relates to draft tampering? What a load of absolute rot. This whole investigation is a complete joke and has been right from the start. A complete waste of time and money. The breaking issue about drugs makes the investigation into our club look quite silly. Most people are heartily sick of this whole tanking saga and the AFL have dug a big hole for themselves. The bloke who kicked off the whole investigation is now gone (under unusual circumstances) How bad does that look? If we had a half decent media in this town they would have ridiculed the whole thing from the start. Wilson and her mates are there to sell newspapers - nothing else. Morals and ethics in the journalistic trade have been thrown out the window - long ago. This thing all started from a few ill chosen words from a 'questionable source' who may in fact be in a little bit of trouble with the law. You can bet 'London to a brick' that the media won't touch the credibility of the star witness. Forget T$, this bloke deserves our total wrath. I wonder if he gives some thought to the fans who used to cheer him on? Nup, he doesn't seem the type to have a conscience. Scapegoating can always come at a price. You have to look down the track if you take that path. If you want to attract good administrators to the club in the future then the big picture should always be taken into account. You can live and die by poor decisions. Offering up Connolly would create a whole raft of new issues. Especially if the only thing he's deemed to have done is make a joke about 'Zulus'. But in some ways this whole saga creates an opportunity. It should have the effect of galvanising our club and the supporters (it already has started to do that in my eyes) It also allows the club to stand up for itself. And the coaching staff should be using this as a chance to steel the playing group.

  11. If anyone in this whole debacle has brought the game into disrepute - it is Brock McLean I cringe when I see his name on the list of Foundation Heroes. The club ought to give his money back - and remove his name from the list - seriously!! Oh I hope Malthouse doesn't have a role for him!

  13. Craig was great for us and great for the club in terms of his relationship with supporters. That definitely went backwards when Barry Prendergast came in and soon after the Demonland/Demonology sponsorship died. Good luck in your new career, CAC!

  16. Bit of blue sky mining here but maybe the answer is to take medical care and welfare of the players away from the individual clubs and placing into the hands of the AFL. A pool of medico could rotate through the clubs on a rostered basis. Due to continuity the medicos would need to spend a reasonable time at each club, maybe a season at a time and then rotate. They would have no allegiance or obligation to the individual clubs and could operate entirely independantly of the club. They would be paid for by the AFL and answerable only to them. The players welfare would be their only concern and clubs would be unable to influence their decisions as to whether a player takes the field or not.

  17. It seems all our Christmases have come at once this week (with the exception of the Demon investigation!) As well as the Essendon scandal, Bogan Brock appeared in a Crimestoppers ad in connection with a 3am robbery at Crown Casino. Brock phoned up to say he was innocent and didn't know the other two guys in the ad and is going for an interview on Monday. Hopefully, they are tougher than the 'international policeman' that interviewed Demon staff! A quick telephone book around that big head could do some good. Oh happy days ...

  22. Surely, the Commission can't hear charges (if any eventuate). It's far too conflicted. You would need to cross-examine Demetriou on his public statements and understanding of what constitutes an offence under the AFL's tanking rules and if the issue of the AFL not investigating other clubs who have been suspected of doing the same thing such as for example Carlton, then Mike Fitzpatrick would have to excuse himself. If we don't get heard by an independent tribunal, then the AFL lays itself open to costly litigation it can only lose.

  23. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt for the time being. Perhaps the poor body language came from the frustration of not being able to do when he was younger and fully fit. Whilst he will never regain the body of the 21 year old Aaron Davey, he's probably fitter now than at any time in the last three years. That has to count for something.

  24. In a strange move the AFL is apparently going to dispense with the policy applied in previous investigations and will widen its anti Essendon drugs enquiry to other clubs. Gold Coast Suns and Geelong now in the gun AFL vows to investigate The Weapon's former clubs What happened to the one club at a time policy they applied to alleged "tanking"?

  25. How'd you get to that conclusion? ... and we know injuries ... broken legs ... blease, strauss for eg. He was still limping at the start of this season FFS, of course his footy wasnt great last year. Just watched a replay with some mates who missed it ... (BTW - i missed a handball in the 3rd and 2 kicks at the start of the 4th qtr - so i reckon 14 touches for the game, not 11) Point is, there was plenty of run, run to space and/or position, 2nd and 3rd efforts, controlled intensity, sublime skills - he got pinned in the third by young Vlastuin and I reckon that was his only boo-boo. It was the Aaron davey of old - if you dont believe me, watch for yourself when you can: Let's just hope his body gives him the chance to keep it up. Listen for him being talked about at the start of the half time break and during the 3 qtr time break.. (and throughout the telecast as well). ... and look for the No.8 - or a big indige-afro type do...

  29. I can't wait for round one. A few months back I ordered tickets for Bruce Springstein(playing at Hanging Rock Winery) and got great seats near the front of the stage. To my dismay, I realised the concert clashed with round one. Without any hesitation, I have given the tickets away and will be there on Easter Sunday cheering the Dees on. I think we will win easily.

  34. I can't understand why everyone is yabbering on about WADA, SHMADA, ASADA and SHMASDA - they all mean nothing. We've all seen, heard and read that Bomber coach James Hird has looked grim and ashen faced and, as the wise heads in the media tell us, that is enough to establish a person's guilt. On that basis Essendon surely must be guilty and the investigation is justified. Heads will roll!

  36. No that evidence doesn't hold up by itself. Also no I am not affronted by our "evidence" whatever" it is , I am affronted that we are being investigated after being previously cleared, 3 years later, on the say so of a disgruntled former player.

  37. Having read Redleg's clear analysis I am convinced we can only be charged with bringing the game into disrepute. Presumably this would be based some of the things we have supposedly done (eg. CC's jokes) and the amazing guff that has appeared in the media (fumbling, Watts etc). The former would not have been public if not for this drawn-out investigation and the later would probably never have been publicaly raised if not for the investigation. So the only people who have brought the game into disrepute are the people who started and ran the investigation. Before this investigation, the 'tanking' actions of the MFC had brought the game into disrepute no more than that of the other clubs who had 'tanked' in the public's mind. (That is true regardless of how provable each case is.)

  38. They may not be able to prove banned substances, but signed agreements outside the playing contract, prabably as a result of coercion, injecting players and in the stomach as well, (by non club personnel) and knowing about the above for at least a year, before contacting the AFL, will land the Bombers in a heavy penalty zone, even if there is no guilty finding on the substances injected.
