  1. Was close to the high point of our year in 2011.

  2. Probably OT here, but are you serious? There was ample video evidence of what he did, it certainly was not lacking, and I have no problem with the new rule stating that anything caught off the ball is upgraded to "intentional" is a good rule. Conca shouldn't have floored Adams off the ball and he is lucky that he is able to serve games through the NAB cup.

  3. I noticed someone mentioned in another thread that the new player profiles pics are up on the clubs official site. More interesting to me than the new photos was the new text. Not sure what every one else thinks but they are definitely very measured in terms of pumping up the players tyres. Probably fair, but much more negative than you'd expect on the Clubs website where you'd generally find some rosy write ups? Seems like the frank, no nonsense attitude has even reached the PR guys? Perhaps Neeld reviewed each profile before publishing on the website?!

  4. Peoples NAB Cup is simply practice. Experiment time. This is not about the supporters it's about checking our list under match conditions. It's actually pretty important for the club to have this opportunity. Personally I don't want any fierce physical contact until rd 1. It's a long season and history shows that the guys who keep their team on the paddock generally do well. Misson, remember, got the Swans through to Premiership with only 1 change in the named side from rd 15. Amazing really. Craig's record as fitness advisor under Blight delivered 2 premierships. These guys know what they are doing. Let 'em do their job.

  6. Why wouldn't we keep the layout the same and change the color positions. Navy blue V and red bottom half. Exactly the opposite.

  7. Not in this draft he aint.

  8. I agree Macca. The strongest club in the land does not wish to change its colours because it wishes to remain the strongest club in the land. The MFC wearing white is not a sign of strength and i will never approve.

  9. In the washup, if it worked out that we effectively traded Scully one-on-one for Gaff, I can't see how you couldn't be satisfied.

  13. Adding fringe players is equal or worse than adding nothing. Seriously, do you think the other club are going be saying "thank heavens we got this hack who is barely even in our best 22 to compensate us for losing one of our stars of the future"? If a priority pick isn't enough and you won't offer both, then you walk away from the negotiation and don't waste the other party's time any further.

  14. The GWS/GC situation is unique. We got 2 1st round picks for Scully based purely on his contract $s. If Scully had wanted to leave and go to another club in a "normal" trade, I imagine we would have got a 1st rounder and a player. Remember, we got Clark for just a 1st rounder (12?). Only an established super star would be worth 2 1st rounders; Gaff is a long way from that (as is/was Scully)

  16. Correct. In what you'd call a hostile environment to boot.

  17. If fans keep tuning in on TV then the ALF will keep on dishing up glorified practice games to us in one form or another every year. It's all about maximizing ratings and money. It's our own fault. No different to pigs we are. They know we will eat swill when hungry.

  18. I've never been a fan of the preseason 'competition' when we can't have each team play each other twice in the real thing. A joke really.

  22. I would be happy to trade either/both for Gaff. However I think by the end of this year Morton will be firmly in our best 22.

  23. To me he is like a lottery ticket. I buy one with hopes it will win but usually disappoints. Occasionally a small win keeps up the interest. But reality always says a good win is a long shot.

  24. ''You look at it from my side but also from the side of the supporters. People are very passionate about their clubs and they obviously don't want to lose players. The supporters kind of think they own you if you play for the club, but that's footy. They pay their membership and they are part of the club, they are the life of the club, you need them to survive, but they probably didn't look at it from my position. It's a great opportunity for me to come up here and be part of something special. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.'' I find that comment really offensive, why doesn't he just shut his mouth and stop talking rubbish? Of course we can all see it from his position, we always have. He doesn't seem to understand that it was the way he went about it that caused so much anger. As the other posts have mentioned, there doesn't seem to be a hint of regret there at all. Completely deluded.

  29. The oldest team in the league won the flag last year and moved the ball as quickly as anyone. None of their top line mids had elite pace. Winning contested footy and ball use is first and foremost. Varcoe-like legspeed isn't as crucial and not as difficult to acquire.

  30. Many here think we were ripped off with Scully compensation. Gaff has shown his worth as a legitimate pick 4 with some years of development. If you won't pay both picks for Gaff, there's inconsistency.

  31. I thought it might have been a bit of a curve ball. Maybe his suprise is from the fact that they are working on getting him over and he was thinking how the heck does this bloke know. I reckon i am giving myself a little too much credit here but who knows.

  32. I'm over it - we are probably better off with things as they are now. But what lasting feelings am I meant to have for a guy who has lied etc and damaged our club. I'm not a Christian, why should I 'forgive' him. Who would you rather see win a Brownlow - Scully or ... almost anyone from any club? (OK, I'm sure there are some other players people will have a long-standing issue with, but he has to be high on any MFC's supporters list surely.)

  33. Absolute garbage. What do you think tribalism is, & Rivalries are made of. This is footy, not the local neighborhood 'Days of our lives'. It's combative & meant to be. If your worried about 'a look' or a 'politically correct image', maybe you should take up a 'priesthood', or maybe not, hmmn, a squeaky clean image????? The MCC, there's ya go!

  37. It won't go away during the season, it will just not be the only source of entertainment when there is footy. A lot of us will be watching how he goes and hoping he proves to be a rich B grade player. He may not play for MFC anymore, but he lied and hurt a lot of supporters (if not the players) so you have to expect interest, mostly malevolent.

  38. You don't need to be in the LG to be a leader or a mentor. The brothers shouldn't dwell on anything and neither should Davey. Head down, bum up and perform is how they should be. It shouldn't. But we'll see what he is made of. Same goes for Rivers and Green.

  39. Brad Green had a great year in 2010. Based on that and a derth of alternatives (all too young at that stage) he was given the captaincy. Unfortunatley, and I'm lifting this from Brads interviews, leading into 2011 Brad didn't work as hard during the preseason (perhaps too many Captain related obligations, perhaps he figured he didn't need to), he found that his transition from wing, mid to forward made it difficult for him to impact games when required,... So he, and the MFC, struggled in 2011. My biggest issue with his captaincy (and the culture at the MFC) that put him there is that it was leadership in part based on seniority in the playing group rather than other leadership qualities that are more important than seniority. These would be 1. the ability to lift and inspire your teammates with your efforts and play - for form reasons Brad struggled big time in 2011 on this front. 2. the ability to accept the teams failing is your failing - some of Brads post-match interviews after a loss were painfull to watch, as he cheerfully described that despite the loss we were improving... giggling as he abdicated responsibility for our dissapointment, and even in the latest interview saying how he easily got over losses. I expect the leader of the MFC to be a seething thunderclap after a loss and for the pain of each loss to drive him and the team harder. 3. venom - physical aggression, leaders need to know when and how to up the stakes physically to rally the troops. Neitz would charge a pack like an angry Rhino, Junior would land a ripping tackle, both would use it to intimide the opposition and inspire the troops. Unfortunaely Brad was unable to do that. I love Brad as a player and hope he comes back to his best this year, and I believe that he would have been a much better captain this year for the lessons of last year. That said I think Neeld has made the correct decision re the LG and new Captains, in part because the LG of 2011 should be challenged to lift their contribution and input into the team despite thei losing the captaincy and positions in the LG... Time will tell.

  40. Let's get real here. This idea of being tough is the right pathway for the club. The players need to toughen up. But the coach has to be more complex in his approach, the idea of just being tough, and ppl on here standing behind that and that only is strange to me. How about being 'tough but fair'. A new leadership group means a new order at the club. Good on Neeld for bring bold and taking this path. Good on Brad for going down the path of 'I'll still lead in an informal way and help the Ld group out', but I few comments by Brad says to me that the coach is unnapproachable and hard to communicate with. Recognition for his efforts, an explanation why (other than a youth policy), a thankyou, anything. It may have happened but does not seem Brad will not be knocking on Neelds door or expect to be invited to Neelds office to have another 5 minutes to talk further. It's Worrying IMO. Malthouse, Matthews, Clarkson, Williams are all uncompromising in their times as coach. We re they unapproachable? I question if Neeld is approachable after reading Greens articles. But then again I don't know the full story and hope I'm wrong

  41. I would also like to see Brad concentrate on his set shot kicking again this year. He pretty well used to be the most reliable kick for goal in the competition, but in the last few years he's lost that accuracy/dependability.

  42. Quality stuff from Brad. He will go down as a club legend, so he need not be Captain this year. That said, I would love to see Brad regain his 2010 form, secure AA selection and re-sign with the club for another couple of years. That's the sort of leadership we need from him this year.

  43. Morton vs Howe - want to Howe run Morton around, and make Morton accountable as a HBF Clark vs Sellar - give us a look at Sellar on a key forward Petterd vs Strauss (if fit) - would like to think that Petterd can take his I50 pressure up a notch, and will teach Strauss to hit targets under pressure Bail vs Trengove - see what Bail is like shutting down one of the better mids Bate vs Moloney - make Bate accountable against a quality mid that will be on the end of Jamar's taps Jones vs Nicholson - both gut-runners, with Nicho looking for a promotion to senior list Frawley vs Watts - see how much JW has been doing in the gym Bartram vs Davey - Flash to play forward and Barty tag him Points; * Tapscott, Magner and Couch are not to go near Grimes * Jurrah to play after a restricted preseason and kick 4 goals * Morton BOG.
