Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Demonland Player of the Year - Round 1

Not sure if any one really deserves votes after yesterday, but for what its worth here are the players I thought were not as insipid as the rest.

6 - Paul Johnson - probably the only really big positive to take out of the game. He rucked better than White, and did much more around the ground than White. Gives me hope that he may be able to serve us well. I'm a fan.

5 - Nathan Jones - tries his heart out week in week out. Was one of the only players to put his body on the line.

4 - Brock McLean - also put his body on the line, and so he should after all the dramas he put the club through in pre season.

3 - Brent Moloney - because he put his body in.

2 - Cale Morton - see above. And thats quite a thing when you are as slight as Cale.

1 - Brad Green - for no other reason than he got a bit of the ball.

6 -Paul Johnson, by far the shining light.

5 - Brent Moloney. Looked good.

4- Nathan Jones, was Ok.

3- Brock Mclean. Doesnt deserve it, but yeeeeee.

2-Cale Morton- because he got a game under his belt.

1- Paul Wheatley- got the equal least time on ground, which means he is the least responsible for the loss. aha

The Demonland Player of the Year 2008 is now open for voting.

It's the same deal as last year (except that this year we are weighting player's scores by the team's percentage in a particular game).

The first three serious selections on a 6,5,4,3,2,1 basis with best player getting six will be accepted as official votes for Round 1.

Last year's winner Nathan Jones has continued from where he left off last year. He topped our Round 1 votes but the bad news is that because our percentage from the game was 32.5%, his votes were weighted down by that poor percentage. Our leaders are:-

4.55 Nathan Jones

4.225 Paul Johnson

3.9 Brock McLean

2.925 Brent Moloney

1.95 Brad Miller

1.625 Cale Morton

0.65 Colin Garland

0.325 Simon Buckley

0.325 Brad Green

Had the game been a draw, our percentage would have been 100% and he would have received 14 votes. The moral of the astory is to do well when the team wins well (hallelujah).

6) - PJ - Made the least amount of mistakes. Good overhead marks. Looked like half a footballer (as compared to 18 or 19 other MFC clowns) Perhaps should be first ruckman next week as a reward.

5) - Jones - Already on his way to a B&F win. Disapointed he missed the first goal of the game (when he snapped out on the full). Could've given us some impetus. Always puts in but unfortunetly doesn't have silky skills. Deserves 5 or 6 votes.

4) - Green - Cheeky and sneaky 4 votes (any other game he wouldn't deserve votes), but kicked a couple of goals, fought the game out well and looked like our most skilled player out there. Suggestions of his demotion to Sandy is silly.

3) Mclean - gets votes purely because he was our highest disposal getter (26). Looks like he's turned into a dull & ordinary player, which is heart-breaking. I want his 2006 back!

2) Moloney - At least had a go and has a bit of mongral, but his disposal was often garbage and gave away frees.

1) Morton - Deserves some best and fairest votes for a couple of gutsy efforts - considering his slight frame.

Buckley was listed in the best in the Heraldsun, so perhaps apologies to him. I liked his willingness to take the opposition on, but wouldn't get a game for anyone else.

6- Nathan Jones. Went hard all day

5- Paul Johnson. showed good touch and surprising agility

4- Moloney. hard all daty but got caught a lot.

3- Brock Mclean - terrible first quarter. but came back. Was torn apart by Mitchell though.

2- running out of players - Simon Buckley. only bloke looked like breaking the lines and taking them on.

1- Cale morton - beautiful mover. would like to see him play a few more games as he looks great.

I've merged the two threads we had running on this topic.

Our nominated vote givers for Saturday's game v. Western Bulldogs are the first three in this thread:-

  • dees_rule_4eva

  • Maybe next year

  • demondomination
But you must have your votes placed on the site by midnight on Saturday night.

Good luck and hopefully, your votes will weigh a lot more than Sunday's votes!

So demonland poy now rewards player who play well in victories, not players who work hard even when we are getting smashed? its an interested concept and i look forward to seeing how it pans out at the end of the year...

Well I've thought about it since Sunday and for me it's:

6: Johnson

5: Jones

4: Moloney

3: Morton

2: Green

1: Weetra (because he tried)

So if I understand correctly, only three people's votes are considered? Or am I misunderstanding how this works

That's how it's been since we started. Three different people every week and when we play interstate our preference is for three people who attend the game to cast the votes.

Not exactly but the rationale is that points earned are worth more when the whole team plays well. Who was to know that in our first game we'd be so shyzen?

so why do people keep on giving their votes long after the first three posts?

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
