Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

 pretty sure clint bartram is a current clint bartram, don't think a player who has played for one year can be looked at as bringing the cornerstone for future players at a contemporary level

MELBOURNE – KYLE CHENEY

North Ballarat Rebels, VIC, Medium defender, August 25 1989, 184.6cm, 86.2kg

Cheney looms as a fascinating player in this draft. There has been some speculation he could be taken as early as No.33 by Port Adelaide and he has also been linked with West Coast, but the Eagles are out of the meeting by pick No.22. Melbourne looms as Cheney's most likely destination with one of its later choices. It may opt to select him at No.53, but otherwise it should be able to claim him here. Cheney is rated by some recruiters as one of the top prospects to have come through the state-based screenings this year.

Awful last name, I'll be refering to him as KC for the rest of his career.

Just can't stand D!ck.

Let's get busy, KC.

Sounds good.

If you don't like Dick Cheney then don't even bother about checking out the Jack Grimes who infests the American political scene. Just be glad that that our versions are playing football.

By the sounds of CAC, he may be the next Nathan Brown/Matthew Whelan whom I would be happy with. When I read he was a medium defender I was a bit disappointed (as we already have Bell, CJ, Petterd, Bartram, etc.) but reading about his hardness has changed my mind.

When we think about it, we have just lots of 2 running defenders in Brown and Ward. Whelan is slowing down due to injuries and only has a year or 2 left. CJ will never mate the grade imho. Pettard and Bartram and both expected to move into the midfield in the next year or 2.

Bell, of coarse, is an absolute gun.

So a hard nosed small defender in the mould of Matthew Whelan is actually quite useful if we look 2 years into the future!!!

Cheney becomes a Demon by Matthew Hillard

MELBOURNE Football Club officials have told Warracknabeal's Kyle Cheney to relax today and tomorrow before he embarks on a professional football career on Wednesday.

The Demons selected Cheney at pick number 53 in Saturday's AFL draft. They want him in Melbourne on Wednesday but the 18-year-old is still grasping the life-changing fact.

Family and friends gathered at Cheney's Warracknabeal home on Saturday morning as the draft commenced.

Nervously they waited as 52 player names were called out; 53 proved to be the magic number.

"All the family was there and a big cheer went up when my name was called out," Cheney said.

"But it still hasn't sunk in. I had a few mates around our house and some family and friends last night, but I'm still trying to get over it."

Kyle's father Michael said the family was now busily preparing for their youngest son's departure on Wednesday. "It's a huge thing, and we're all sort of trying to come to terms with it," Mr Cheney said.

"Kyle's a good level-headed kid, he keeps everything pretty much under wraps, even though there was a lot of expectation put on him.

"But getting down there will be an eye-opener for him; he'll probably realise he's one of them once he's there."

When asked to explain MFC's draft strategy CAC replied:

"We'll take the best red-head that's available at the time"

B)

I thought we were meant to be the Redlegs not the Red-heads?

Just joking, best of luck to the boy. Hope he turns out to be a decent smoky pick.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
