Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

I think that he would be a fantastic prospect. Unfortunatly he should be picked up around the 7-12 area. May slip to 14 but do we use 14 on a fantastic Forward pocket/midielder or on a KPP. If he is available at 21 (which I very much doubt) I would be quite annoyed if we dont take him. Just doesnt quit fit our needs at the pick required to get him.

Would love to pick him, could definately turn out to be something special but pick 4 will be best talent available, 14 a kpp and that leaves pick 21 as the only draft pick possible and i dont think he will slip that much. Also if we pick up sampi in the PSD then we will already have a crumbing FP.

have seen him play school footy and he makes the team look good. hes one of those players that turn a game around. when he plays well, the whole team plays well...very exiting to watch...exceptional talent. very much doubt we will get him though...very unlikely especially if we are looking at sampi already...(cyril is better though)

why limit ourselves to a KPP player at 14

get rioli, get some more excitment into the club, it draws in the fans and the kids who will be fans for years to come

a good KPP is still going to be available at pick 21, especially if we get morton at pick 4 (which i think is going to happen now ;))

I get the feeling Rioli will slip thru to 14 or even 21.

Clubs are a bit shaky after Tambling, Oakley Nicholls and Sampi where all taken high and all of them look to be busts.

Leroy Jetta was highly rated but he slipped to 18 last year and i'm not sure Rioli's better then Jetta.

i go 2 school with him seen him kick 6 goals in a half at FF with the whole 50 to him self. he will be the talking point of the draft who ever gets him will be a very lucky club. Hes an Aaron Davey but faster and alot better.

He'd want to be a lot better as Davey aint that good.

I very much doubt he's faster.

The kid is 17 or 18, its a very long bow to draw saying he is better than davey.

Thats just crazy, Davey is a star, a blueprint for all other young forward pocket dynamo's about how to apply pressure. Rioli might end up as good as Davey, i hope so, but lets just settle down a bit...

Eh?

I don't know that Davey is quite a star. He really didn't have a great season this year. played a few blinders, but also went missing way too often to be called a star. Yes he had a few injuries and niggles, but he was out there.

What worries me is that he was probably the second-best forward pocket after Didak when he got AA (Some say he was jibbed). Since then he's gradually drifted into the midfield and defence, even when we had glaring holes up forward beneath Neita's feet that needed to be filled. Since he moved there I've only seen him DOMINATE in one game, which is just plain not good enough for a player like him who's won so many off his own boot.

If I was DB I'd only use him sporadically up the ground and in defence. He doesn't have the physical characteristics to go with the rough stuff. When he's nipping at the forwards' heels he doesn't seem to let defenders get under his skin as easily, he's REALLY hard to coach against, and he has that wonderful run-down trick that he does. He kicks goals at times when lesser players would be happy just to keep the opposition from possessing the ball. You can't buy that kind of X-factor (Unless you're Carltank), and I reckon it's redundant and ultimately wasted if he's more than 70 metres from goal. If I was an opposition coach I'd be THRILLED to see Aaron anywhere BUT near the goals. Otherwise you know you're going to have to craft a solution, and there aren't that many.

Ok, if he is not a star, then he is close. I understand his form has been a bit up and down, but still he is so exciting and in a team of very few matchwinners, he is one of them. Anyway my argument is about comparing Rioli to Davey being a bit rich...

he's not a star. david neitz could be considered a star but i would count him as a great. dont think we've had a star for over a decade. schwartz could of been. lyon was almost (if the injuries dint cut down his career.

but davey? not a chance.

I understand your point

But when you go to a game next year and see Rioli in action you will understand were im coming from

I have seen him last in a 400m with 150 to and come back and win with about 20m. Watch him next year

Agree 100%, the perfect rundown of Davey's role.

Sounds like Cyril Rioli is actually the player to take that wider role, with stints up forward, almost a mirror to Davey.

Could be fun to watch, but sadly I'm still in the KPP midest for pick 14. If he slips to pick 21 I'd be stoked.

jee guys way to throw ur support behind a man who had a tough year. In fact wasnt it a tough year for the whole club. Theres not many who can still perform at their peak when carrying at injury. Its a credit to his character that he guttsed the year out, would have been very easy to slide onto the surgeons table in round 15. Seeing as though were a club changing direction how about the supporters get a little more protective of our own. And to the year 7 student who said that Junior boy Rioli was "faster and alot better than Davey", a) doubt he would be faster. B) not daveys **** hole atm, just cos he kicked a few cheapies in APS footy doesnt mean he can step into AFL and be instantly a premier small forward.

Fair enough. It's certainly true that he has a LONG way to go before he proves himself as useful as Davey.

I will settle that Davey is a good player. But is anyone understanding my point!!!!

Yeah. Look if Davey went on to kick 50 goals in the next 3 seasons, and pick up All Australian in a couple of those years then I might find myself edging towards "star." I think the reason some people have trouble getting behind him THAT much is that he might have been found out. The guy does WAY more than he should given his footy upbringing and size. For the first few years coaches probably expected him to be revealed as a VERY fortunate rookie who played his best footy in his first few years, then to diminish and become a regular player. By year 3 I think everyone cottoned on that he didn't play like a pip-squeak and had to be treated with seriousness. Now that everyone knows what he can do, every coach has a plan to nullify him.

The issue is that he's really only ever going to excel for 12-15 rounds a year in the forward pocket. He COULD play games like the one against the Roos (or dogs was it?) this year, where he was everywhere, but I'd be very nervous about relying on him to do that.

The reason someone like Rioli could be good is that he may be able to be a bit more versatile, as well as being a bit heavier and able to stand up in marking contests and tackles. Versatility is the key.

Personally, if we're going to pick up another forward pocket, I'm not sure an extra Davey is the answer. I'd prefer a Vardy type. Sylvia could be that, but it's unlikely he'll be left that close to goal for whole games, especially over the next few years where we all want him to become a midfielder.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
