You raise an interesting point here that hasn't really been discussed as yet as far as I'm aware. What if Judd nominates more than one preferred club to play for?

What do you think might happen then if say after meeting with all four he ruled out the Bombers and Carlton and said it was either the Dees or the Pies for him?

It was reported a few days ago that the Eagles have requested that Chris nominates 2 clubs.

judd is an elite player, would he rather play for the filth against essendon on anzac day in front of 85,000 or for MFC against port adelaide in front of 12,000 on mothers day??? were too low profile because weve accepted medeocrity for too long. MFC will be graceful in missing out on judd, like we always are....

Bloody terrific. This is just what we need. A defeatist attitude. This is what will attract players of Judd's calibre, and win us a premiership. This is the despicable attitude which keeps holding us back.

Hannabal. You seem like a clued up individual. I've seen your posts over at 'ology. You know more than most. Yet even if Connors knows Craig Cameron intimately, surely they would not waste their time with us if there was no real chance of a move to MFC. There are richer clubs around who could push the price higher, and Cartlon alone will drive the pick/player price as high as it will go with their position. I refuse to accept that Judd wants to be a celebrity over at the filth. He may be craving a club with premiership prospects, but I'll bet my car he'll be prepared to wait another 1-2 years for MFC to challenge over being constantly in the media spotlight at the filth. I will simply not believe anything these reporters are saying that suggests Judd already prefers Collingwood, without damning evidence.

Also, I agree with Belzebub. If this comes down to a tussle between Collingw$@( and us, we will win hands down. We may not even have to offer as much as the filth to get over the line. Which is why we are in an excellent position to snare the man. WC would most likely rather he go to MFC than ANY of the other clubs. They may have a minimal influence in the end, but take it as gospel that they do not want the tyres at Essendon, Collingwood or Carlton pumped up any more.

I still think we're about a bee's dick short of being a lay-down misere to land Judd. I will until he comes out and says otherwise.

My apologies for any awful grammar/spelling/insults. I've just been to a mates 21st and got back to find out the latest goss. I am severely inebriated, but wanted to respond...

The prevailing sentiment amongst many fans was well summed up by a bigfooty poster by the name of graciezac:

"I think you'll find that quite a few Eagles supporters and a lot of other team supporters (at least the ones I have spoken to) out of the race hope Judd goes to Melbourne. He barracked for you guys as a youngster and I think this whole thing would be a lot easier to swallow if he showed some passion for the game and picked his old team. I'd say your definitely sentimental favourites".

I genuinely think this might be a factor. Add the MCG factor, the low profile factor and the romantic factor and we've got to be in with a shot.

Off the top of my head, I'm guessing 1997.

You are correct. In 1997 both St Kilda and Adelaide had missed the previous years finals. In fact of the 4 prelim finalists, only North had been a finalist (premiers) the year before. The Bulldogs came from second last to miss the GF by 2 points. In years since there have been a few instances of one side making the GF after not playing finals the previous year (including us in 2000), but not both.

Is it just me or is West Coast actively trying to make Judd look like a selfish brat?

That offer of 'he can live in Melbourne and still play for us must be a joke - it's after the horse has bolted, totally impactical, and if they were serious about the offer then the last place they'd make it is in the media.

There's been a couple of little things like that which have me thinking WC aren't going to let this all happen smoothly.

I wonder if there will be some kind of, what was itcalled , the 'Veale deal' which prevented another trade going through so a star went into the pere-season draft?

This is exactly why we are a massive, massive chance to land him. Well summed up. We have plenty going for us in our own right. We will be able to roughly match what the other clubs can pay Judd under the salary cap. We have opportunities for him outside of football, and Ian Johnson is going to give Melbourne what it wants; Twigley on a regular basis  (incidentally I noticed we've already caught the fever, with a 2 page spread of her in the Hun this morning).

3 Victorian powerhouses are going to be contemplating the prize fish that got away in about 3 weeks time, and those flogs in the media will realise that money isn't the be all and end all.

Well, Diablo, I feel you may be right! I just heard from somebody whose opinion I respect who is loosely connected to the Melbourne end of the WCE. He says that we are definitely the preferred option as as the Eagles are concerned and that they want 2 first rounders preferably, or will settle for pick 4, Chip Frawley and one of our mid-20's midfielders. Apparently they were very keen on Chip last year and rate him highly. Bruce, Green or Johnstone would be suitable. They are very keen on Morton and Palmer by all accounts, hence the desire to trade up in the first round.

Good to hear. If we can get away with pick 4, chip and Johnno I'll be happy. Sorry to see Spud2 go, but I think he'll be happy if WC are as keen on him as reported. If not, he can always pull a 'Judd' in a few years and come back here

Everybody is saying that Judd won't come here because 'we are nothing'. Yet that may be one of the biggest drawcards, for both Judd and for WC to send him here. He doesn't want to be a celebrity, and WC don't want to trade to a club that they consider a major threat. In two years when Judd leads us to a flag they'll have red faces.

This board is just getting more and more delusional.

I will donate $100 to demonland if Judd is at the MFC next year.

Please, hold me to that.

Now I'm really confident. Mate, you come out with a thousand Melbourne trades a year that never come off. Now you're telling us a trade won't happen. I think we've just moved to odds on favourite for Judd!

BTW I love your trade predictions each year - they certainly add a little flavour.

Delusional ??

why ?

Judd has only nominated 4 clubs. we're one of them !!

Essendon looks to be a dud card... Westies dont want to deal with the Wobblies !!

only two teams really have decent early picks they can offload.

Only one team calls the MCG home !!

Now none of that adds up to a dead cert for sure... but hardly ranks us as delusional !!

I'm not fussed one way or other. Gladly have him as not.. I mightnt bet on us...but certainly not against us !!

You can take the Chip out of the deal, that is ridiculous. If we let, say, Bruce go along with #4 pick then that is enough or we off load a low-grade youngster like CJ if we have to. You can't let your best young prospects go as easily as that. We don't need to be that generous, I'm sure

According to Channel 9 News, James Clement has retired. He is easily their best defender and I had him down as one of their best on Friday night despite the obvious glitch or two. The Magpies have very little left in the way of key defenders with Wakelin and Presti on their last legs and Harry O'Brien not everyone's cup of tea and hardly the player to stop a Jonathan Brown or Matthew Pavlich. If they give away the farm to get Judd, they will have very little left in reserve to enable them to reconstruct their backline. Interesting!

Must admit onhearing that I thought...hmm.. the larder is getting thin!! Also tthe wobblies will be more inclined now to look for a defender than a midfielder...well, you'd think !! lol . Clement was VERY good., he's not going to be easy to replace.

If Judd did choose Collingwood I wonder what West Coast would ask for?

Obivously you'd go for Thomas or Pendelbury, knowing they won't give either up.

Nathan Brown (drafted last year) is the brother of Mitch (I think) on the WC list, they could get him, as he was a top 8 pick last year IIRC.

Collingwood would still need to acquire a top pick via trade.

I just can't see how they could satisfy West Coast.

They'll need to trade say Rusling plus their first round pick for a top 10 pick from another team, then on-trade that pick plus say Nathan Brown to West Coast. That still doesn't beat our pick 4 + player x + pick 21.

And if Carlton are not willing to part with pick 1, than we have more to offer West Coast than any of the clubs in the running.

Posted

is it confirmed that the Baggers WONT use pick 1 ?

If Carlton think they can get Chris Judd without having to give up two of either pick 1, pick 3 and Brendan Fevola then they are wasting everyone's time. The longer this progresses, the more excited I become.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
