If we get Sheedy as coach...there goes our good recruiting!

Sheedy loves aboriginal draftees and picks them up willy nilly stuffing up the future.

Alwyn Davey, Ryder, Lovett, Lovett-murray, Richard Cole, Dempsey, Jetta and then 2 out of the 4 on the rookie list are aboriginal. A bit worrying if you ask me. I mean some of those players are good players i'm sure...but i'm 100% sure that he's decision was influenced by what skin colourt they have.

Please Sheedy, take off the blinkers and just pick the best player.

You are probably right. But think about why?

He is trying to build a link between Essendon FC and our indigenous communities.

Just another way he is 'nationalising' the Essendon FC.

It's no mistake the Essendon FC are the second most recognised club in the country. (the sponsors must love it....and pay for it too).

The mind boggles at some of the avenues Sheedy could take the MFC down in the name of building interest and associations for the club.

If he is determined to 'hang up the whistle' in six years, he could do a lot worse than leave a legacy behind at the oldest competitive football club in the world.

Go Dees - onward and upward.

The indigenous players he has recruited besides Richard Cole show enormous potential. Davey, Lovett, Jetta and Dempsey are all very young but have all shown a little something that would make Dons supporters very excited.

I reckon Sheedy would love the challenge.

The challenge of restoring ancient glory to the once-mighty Demons.

He's a football romantic.

And what extra lustre to his already illustrious career if he could pull it off.

I reckon there might be a bit to this, sounds corny for sure...but !!

Ppl make much of the money aspect but I have this feeling that it wont be the make or break factor. Sheedy seems more interested in footy than money

Yep, agree with all that. He is well aware of his place in history and is desperate for a 5th premiership as coach to put him ahead of Jeans, Barassi and Parkin. Also, Sheeds' dislike of Melbourne is well known and long standing. He was rejected by the Demons as a player after one training session as a young man and then went and dominated at Prahran before crossing to the Tigers ( after being refused a clearance). Something about being too slow etc etc. He would no doubt see the irony in being the saviour near the end of his career after being rejected at the start of it! I really believe he can make a massive difference to the Club - and he's right in saying that he will have quality assistant coaches working alongside him. We will have no trouble grooming a successor with Sheeds in the drivers seat.

lol it would be funny if he hated the MFC so much that the only reason he took the job was to run us into the ground.

If MFC were a plane we would never be picked up on radar we fly so close to the ground

Sheeds would love to be the next coach to pull a flag after Norm Smith. I Betcha. I believe he could do it,and we have to take a chance

He has a great sense of history of the game and his place in it...Success with the MFC would be a very fitting bookend...

As he is now marketing the AFL 150th it would also put our own clubs birthday front and vcentre which offsets the risk of the AFL swamping it... ;)

has the fact that his taken on the role as ambassador for the AFL affected his prospect of coaching next year?

He says it hasn't.

I think Sheed's would be great for Melbourne. We need someone who's been there before.

We don't need some young punk.

It should have helped with the MFC....

sheedy having MORE exposure in 2008 would be a bonus for us

people will want their logo on sheedy, so they will have to pay us for the opportunity (hopefully ;)

Why on earth would he want to coach us if he has always hated us???

And why would we want him to coach us if he's always hated us???

Don't get me wrong, i would love Sheedy to coach the dees next year, but i'm a bit perplexed by this.

What is it with these comments about how Sheedy felt about us or us about him ? Its totally irrelevant to the current situation.

I've always hated sheedy and essendon, but if he walks out in the red and blue I'll love the man.

l always hated Byron Pickett until he started wearing the R&B, now l love him

we are only speaking to Sheeds out of respect. games gone past him, he cant let go, dont want him dragging us down, because of previous success, thinks things will just happen for him DONT BRING HIM TO MFC

Wasn't sure which Coaching topic I should add the following article to, but picked this one as it made me feel comfortable to read about Sheedy wanting the job at the MFC.

Hope the article hasn't been posted elsewhere but came across it when reviewing the papers this morning and thought others might like to read. Those of you privy to SEN access in Vic may have already heard the comments.

SHEEDY UPDATE:

An announcement is to be made within a week.

Talks with Sheedy have progressed to the point that the MFC have discussed Sheedy's remuneration.

Fremantle have upped the ainte and offered Sheedy more money than us to be the Director of Coaching.

Regardless, Sheedy's preference is to coach on his own accord.

The coaching interviews tomorrow are academic and a safeguard measure only.

Sheedy hates Craig Hutchison with a passion.

I am trying to keep a lid on it, but my source tells me he is ours.

On a negative note, there are some key high profile players that he will be either trading or delisting that i do not agree with that has come as a shock to me.

One is a very highly paid player that has underperformed over the last 2 years (and it's not Yze or Bizzell I am talking about, even though Bizz is probably gone too).

I will not name the names I have been told that he wants to get rid of until the coaching announcement has been made.

Rest assured there are some delisting from left field to come.

i love the rumour file! keep it up!

sounds interesting. i think we'd be crazy to pass up on sheedy.

and i cant wait to find out what happens with the delistings/trades. i simply cant wait to see a new coach take an objective/ruthless look at our list. no doubt we have some awesome talent, but we have about 10 players who are dead wood. i want a new coach to be ruthless. no more mediocrity!!!!

go dees. this preseason could be history defining for our club. it will be fascinating which direction we go. and the process of change is starting within the next week!

Do they really need Schwab to help out?

SCHWAB TO HELP DEES FIND A COACH

It's probably a good move because it does cover the criticism that there was nobody on the panel with coaching experience but there's a solid amount of support for Connolly, at least in terms of those who are close to him. It's a pity the supporters don't think the same way because the poll on this site shows he has the support of 4 out of 136 people who have cast their votes. That makes him less popular than Johnny Howard ATM.

Interesting that Schwab would join the "process" now - after Sheeds has been interviewed! Doesn't anybody else find that extraordinary? Obviously, Sheeds is being put through an entirely different "process" which means one of two things I guess - he already has the job and today is just window dressing, or he was never a chance anyway and the process was designed to install Connolly the whole time. I await the result with great interest!

as I pondered elsewhere.. why is Scwabb included after club said it would not appoint anyone as they wanted ppl involved from the beginning. Something NQR about all this now

On the other hand Haydo would have us believe Sheedy has had the job for weeks and the whole process is "just window dressing" - but those who support Sheedy don't have a problem with that. I'd be very unhappy if that was the case and I'm confident it isn't. Schwab was part of the early process and has been brought back in to fill in for Chris fagan who has been excluded because he's leaving - there's nothing sinister about that.

In the absence of inside information or being part of the process I'm a Sheedy supporter because his great record outweighs the doubts about whether he is past it. But really I'm a supporter of the process - we need to examine all the candidates and find who is the best fit. Sheedy should start favourite for the reasons above but who knows what may happen thru the process - he may shine or he may bomb, clearly he's gone OK because he made it to the last 5. I want us to choose the best coach, if that's Sheedy great, if it's Bailey - who no-one here would've rated before the process started - then great too.

I think I can smell a dual coaching team comin' on.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
