Board Spill

Im not happy the way things are going. I think we as a club are reactive. Anyone keen on helping me get 100 signatures for a board spill or to call a AGM over this, im really not sure how it works but I know are richmond supporter did it a while ago.

Im really keen to get the ball rolling on this so if anyone wants to help me or has got any suggestions let me know. We need action, maybe we can collect sigantures before a collingwood game or something????

Does anyone know how this works???

cause I wanna do something about it

My only advice - is please think carefully before you gather 100 signatures, and force (if its allowed in our constitution) an EGM

It costs the club a lot of money, and creates a great deal of negative publicity (which may put off a potential coach)

It may help - if you aired some of your concerns on here. I'm not thrilled with how the club is performing at the moment, but not too sure its really the boards fault

I disagree, we need stability at the top right now but the main question is who will replace them? It's great to say get rid of them but unless you have the skills and time yourself then you need some decent names to put forward.

Not I. We have some stability and you want to screw with it.

We need to get more aggressive maybe do something, we need a supporter a real supporter on the board that doesn't see the club from a suit position

Bazza, what do you mean by that and how does the current board see the club from a suit position?

Not happy about the way the Board failed to win enough games this year? Maybe they're responsible for the injuries and the lousy umpiring in the four close ones we lost?

I want a proactive board as much as the next person but let's see the results of their quest for a coaching appointment first.

We don't need board instability when we're in the process of appointing a new coach. It might scare off some potentially good prospects.

Absolute madness. The board is the least of our troubles.

The period of instability would do untold harm to our chance of signing a good coach, re-signing wanted players, building on our (record) supporter base, and keeping or building sponsors. The cost of an EGM would take badly needed money away from football operations. All to satisfy a few disgruntled egos.

do they have the clubs best intrests at heart??? have they been watching for 20 30 40 years, or is it more profile building

Not sure if this will get through but the success the current board has had with our new training facilities in the Olympic Park precinct has been one of the best things achieved by this club for 40 years. This sometimes gets lost when discussing this current board's efforts.

Bazza.......try laying down some serious reasons why you think there needs to be a spill.......doing it just for something to do isn't really being serious is it?

Because YOU are not happy with how things are going, and because you think the club is reactive really doesn't hold any water!

There could not be a worse possible time than now for a board spill. Imagine that; no coach and no board to choose one. It would be true anarchy; the club would be out of control with nobody at the wheel.

No thanks.

It ain't the boards fault that the team are playing so poorly. After a 0-9 start to the season, Daniher needed to go and PG was quite firm with his approach, which should be commended.

Now at a time where we are in the market for the best possible coach, you want to take action leading to instability on the board. Why on earth would a new coach want to coach a team that will unstable in the very short term future.

If you really love the club, you will wait until the MFC appoint a new coach, then ask to speak to PG privately (if you're able to get through)

What he and Steve Harris have done financially for this club needs to be appreciated, sure we're in debt, but without these 2, we'd be even further in debt with that $ amount growing by the month.

Bad idea, they are not the problem, we need a good coach and at the moment we don't need anything that will deter a coach from wanting to be involved in the MFC.

Maybe figure out a good candidate for the board and then try and get them elected onto the board, it does not require a full board spill.

'bazza', I applaud your passion & whilst I agree with your want for a more agressive Board & club, It's the wrong time to upset the 'applecart'. It might be that the board is learning a hard lesson as we speak.

We need some ex demons modern day players on the board.

But it won't hurt to form a network of members who actively want a more proactive & aggressive club that relates better with it's grass roots members & supporters.

Absolute madness!

We're lucky to have both Gardner and Harris. They are great businessmen who have done a lot of good for this club, including achieving record membership numbers, finding us a home and building new facilities, and getting our finances in order. That is the job of the board, winning games of football is the job of the football department, which is currently being restructured due to the proactive approach of our board.

I'll tell you what Bazza - if this board ratifies the appointment of anyone but Sheedy for the position of coach of this club then I'll sign your petition - if only to get a few more board members with genuine footy experience. You are right that we have too many suits. I appreciate the business acumen of the former St Kilda supporter Steve Harris as CEO and agree that he is doing a nice job running a business - I wonder about the passion for the club though. PG - hmm! Always appeared to me to be a bit of a spin doctor in the Butterss mould. That's not to say he isn't doing an OK job and he certainly isn't to blame for the injuries or the complete lack of passion exhibited by the large majority of our playing list over the past three weeks.

The real test will be - do they have the cajones to appoint somebody who will really shake the place up and lead the club rather than the team, or do they go for a soft option and appoint a newbie who will roll along with the dictates of the board!

bazza. have you really considered the role of the board as opposed to the role of the footy dept? the board has brouth us reasonable off field success and are stearing us in the right direction. membership is at record levels. the dees are getting reasonable exposure in public. we are moving towards our training base and preparations are well under way regarding our 150th year. just because the team is performing badly doesnt mean the board is. think long and hard before you do this. and only do this if you have prepared an opposition ticket you think is better.

dont spill the blood and expect someone else to fill in the gap. you need to have a better option ready to go.

bazza,

see my post in "thankyou and goodbye" thread is not the board

it was the coach, plus a combination of mitigating circumstances eg. injuries

You don't necessarily want lots (or even many at all) ex-players on your board. Most of them have no experience of running a business. You definitely want ex-players in your football department, but the board is a different proposition.

The board is all about business administration, corporate governance, sponsorship, advertising, marketing and media ... it's about growing the club and its membership, and administering the club properly. The people currently on the board have a very wide experience and good performance in these fields and I can't see any evidence that they are neglecting their duties or being in any way ineffective. We are on track with a new home and membership, although the finances are yet to come in, and that's largely linked to our playing fortunes.

The performance of the football department is a different matter entirely, and I wouldn't be poking the board with the wrong stick.

I cant believe it Bazza what do you want the board to do they got ruthless & sacked Daniher & are looking for a new coach who will do a cleanout of our list and introduce a new game plan etc

This board has created stabililty & are getting the finances right, lets not forget 28k record membership in a season of only 3 wins.

On track to finally get a home base & quality training facilities in Olympic park previous boards couldnt achieve

Lets not forget some 3-4 years ago the finacial mess & board problems Guitnick etc

Mate think before u post such crazy ideas

    MORE FIERCE by Meggs

We’re back!  Winning the last three matches has recaptured our Demon spirit and, with superstar players returning from rehab, our Season 2024 dreams are not over yet.   So come along 5.05 pm Saturday afternoon to watch this Round 9 ladder-defining match at the Field of Dreams. Expect the Tigers to be fierce, but surely the Demons will be more fierce. Playing conditions are expected to be a dry 15 degrees with a typically gusty Cranbourne wind. The media opprobrium of the ill-consi

    IN FRONT by Meggs

In this must-win clash between Melbourne 11th on the ladder and St Kilda 8th, it was the Demons who were in front all day to win in a hard-fought Round 8 clash to make it three in a row to keep theit slim finals chances alive. A good crowd of enthusiastic footy families for week 2 of Pride Round had gathered.  The full pews in the well-appointed RSEA Park grandstand provided excellent viewing.   The Saints won the toss and elected to kick to the southern end favoured by a strong 2-3 g

    THE TRADING CHRONICLES 02

Part 2: Watching grass grow by Whispering Jack Critics of test cricket (and I’m not one of them) will often claim the sport is excruciatingly boring: that following a five day match is much like watching grass grow. However, the longest form of that game has nothing on the first week of the AFL trade period when it comes to inducing sleep among those in the football public who follows this process in its somnolent moments. The week gone by has been no exception. Only two player trades

    THE CAVALRY ARRIVES by Meggs

The injury plague which has beset the Demons 2024 campaign is finally starting to dissipate and with consecutive wins over GWS Giants and a 2-point nail-biter in Adelade, a sense of optimism is rising.  Some commentators are now asking whether the Dees can make finals? A huge surprise with team selection this week when it was announced that champs Olivia Purcell, Paxy Paxman and Eden Zanker would play.   Hallelujah!  The cavalry has arrived. GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised
