POSTGAME: Rd 06 vs Brisbane

Featured Replies

Did anybody see/know what caused Petty's concussion? Because he didn't look to take a hit close to when he miskicked the ball, so why was he on the field? (Not casting aspersions, it's just odd). Did the medicos come out and see him before that?

Please, nothing in that at all

Normally I'd say you're right but the MRO has a history of pulling out some absolute doozies on our players.

Who will he go for, Koz for the bump (rough conduct, engaging rough play etc) or Checkers for his shoulder being there causing the concussion?

It's a shame Jefferson missed his set shot because I liked his game otherwise. Easily his best game so far.

Needs to take confidence from it. Keep presenting and putting in body contact and he'll be OK.

… we jigged ‘til we dropped!!!

WE DID IT FOR JIMMY!

The luck of the IRISH ☘️☘️☘️

So, so proud of our boys.

YEAH THE DEES!!!

Yes, I know this is a pointless response, but I blame it on the high to which this win has transported me!

Changing your moniker to Eggman, or Walrus?

The win was great but there's still plenty to work on

we made school boy errors not knocking the ball for a behind twice. luckily they missed from one. We can't be allowing that to happen

We give them some easy turnover goals early though, and then the Petty kick to Ashcroft goal. It is a much deserved win by us, and could've been an easier win.

Helps when we kick 11.2 vs 7.8 in the second half as well though

That's the thing though, it was never going to be experience that got us over the line. Quite the contrary, this win was largely attributed to our youth, and new game plan focused on speed and movement. Brisbane looked slow at times. They punished us at times, but mostly, we were pro-active, and they weren't.

He didn't have to go for the bump, the bump caused a concussion, duty of care blah blah blah, so it's a week. I'll be shocked if he gets off because the MRO is a pile of schnitzels.

We earned our goals with excellent team play. Brisbane got most of theirs through our basic errors. Without those errors we’d have won by 5+goals. Go Demons.

I wondered about this at the time, I'm not so sure it was a concussion. (Though I know he has entered concussion protocols)

I'm wondering if it was a panic attack, and I'm really not trying to be insensitive here so I hope it doesn't come across like that.

Panic attacks when they hit cause dizziness and can hit you like a ton of bricks. He did an extremely poor turnover earlier in the game, then did this one. The way he went down on his knee he looked like the wind had been taken out of him and he was sinking into the ground.

Adding to this theory, the stuff that happened earlier in the week with Elijah Hollands earlier in the week, it had me wondering if his teammates noticed something about Petts to say he needs to go off now.

It's a theory and I don't want to cause an issue on the site so @Demonland if you feel it's inappropriate please delete my post.

Ultimately I just hope he's ok.

Bit like Latrelle and Xavier Taylor. You just gotta get games into him. He didnt hit the scoreboard but he didnt do anything wrong either.

We are starting to see how comfortable guys like Howes, Tholstrup, Langford and Windsor look at AFL after they have gone past the 20 odd or so games mark.

Come on BDA! Tomorrow we can discuss what needs working on, but for tonight…

Let’s revel in this incredible feeling! Moments like this can be few and far between

Time in Possession

50% ESS v MELB 35%

48% FRE v MELB 38%

44% MELB v GCS 40%

41% MELB. V. BRIS. 44%

Loved how we pushed up and cut them off today, high pressure and don't allow the easy switches and short hit ups out of the backline

It's becoming a key part of our BRAND ❤️💙

You are the eggman?

What a win nobody expected us to win and we done it. Langford, Chandler, van Rooyen, Steele and Gawn all fantastic. A win for the ages let's bring on Richmond hopefully we have learned from our mistakes against Essendon.

Credit to the fitness staff too. There are going to be lapses with a young side but generally we seem to be running out games strong.

Chin is getting deserved love but Lingers really stood up today. A cool head at pivotal moments.

You are not wrong there. They also need to work on where they are when not in possession of the ball. The Lions, at stages, moved the ball with ease at times. Still, too many long bombs at times, especially on kick-outs. We still have some players who are still too slow to move the ball on quickly and kill momentum. But in saying that, it is still going to take some time for them to get used to the game style, but I like the way it's heading.

Kingy reckons Petty could have been delayed concussion

Uhm, if I may, point of order…

I expected us to win!!! I expect us to win every week coz you know why? Because it’s possible, that’s why. As our former coach said to me just before he was sacked… “Every week, at the first bounce, both teams are on 0.0.00”

TOMORROW! Let’s talk flaws/mistakes/whatever tomorrow.

Please don’t kill the buzz.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
