PREGAME: Rd 06 vs Brisbane

Featured Replies

Well, at least we won't be Brisbane's only opponents this week, according to Jon Ralph in the Herald-Sun.

He reports that "The resurgent back-to-back premiers have won three games in a row and take on the Lions next Sunday in Melbourne."

Must come back in for Salem IMO

Probably lost about 5k supporters showing up next Sunday due to today's loss. A potential match of the round to a game of "How much by for Brisbane". I've lost a lot of confidence in this playing group after today. A win against the Lions and Richmond can only atone for it.

Please don’t use the word “supporters” unless you mean financial support only because real supporters will turn up next week regardless of yesterday’s result.

The season is going to be a roller coaster, dropping half the team after a loss even a bad loss is an overreaction!

That King used lethargic to describe the teams effort highlights how bad the team as a whole performed.

Be surprised to see more than 1-2 changes unless injury related, as same team played very well against Suns!

Patience will be required inn2026 as a Demon supporter.

Go Demons!

H.F Sharp Kentfield, Culley

F Mihocek, Jeffo, Fritsch

If 3 quarters of the side decide to play half cut next week against Brisbane it will be a 💯 point flogging.

This is no exaggeration either.

Geez, with that forward line the ball will be pinging out faster than that chick in Priscilla Queen of the Desert

JVR has to go. He had a player rating yesterday of -3 which is essentially playing one man down.

The AFL hate gut punches or even light taps to the guts which is what did Disco did yesterday. So I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets pinged a week by the MRO.

Are we front runners?

Based on our win/loss ratio over the last few seasons we clearly don't hit the front much

It is no good saying we lack depth if you not going to give MFC listed players who are stuck in the reserves or become almost a full time emergency. King (coach) is not a miracle worker unless he makes changes to the way players play whether there are positional changes (change of role). Last year players careers were destroyed. Kynan and Sestan in paricular. I say bring on the changes, forget reputations.

Turner wasn't cited and zorko escaped suspension for his crotch shot.

Edit: escaped suspension but got fined

Mm, agree with JVR.

Don’t think Disco will be sighted with anything more than a fine.

Zorko punched a dude in the nuts and got a fine today.

Gotta bring in Moose, need to see what he can do, Brisbane play 2 rucks and Max can’t carry the can alone forever

Also bad coaching.

Oh FFS. They weren't good enough.

Though I don't know if you read through any of the Casey commentaries - post after post remarking that there's almost no-one at Casey who's ready to be promoted.

A few coming back from injury might change that, but even then ...

Please Do

Turner didn't get cited, but Lever did (a fine), for striking Edwards. Is that who you were thinking of?

I'll be going this week even though the Essendon game was a kick in the guts. Be interested in how they respond. Think they will respond well, not expecting to win but I think we will put on a good show. More worried about Richmond.

No I was thinking of Turner. He did give a slight one to an Essendon defender’s stomach which resulted in a down field free kick in the square. Fortunately they deemed it insufficient contact for a report.

I thought he had a good first half and glad he wasn’t cited.

I would love to 5 or more changes to stick it up the players but I think they will only have 1 forced change Salem and 2 unforced changes Culley and either van Rooyen or McDonald, 1 of them will get 1 week to prove themselves. McDonald is my bet to get dropped with Rivers, Laurie and Heath coming in. If they want to make a statement drop Langdon but I don't think they will.

B: Lever, Petty, Howes

HB: Tholstrup, Turner, Rivers

C: Langford, Sparrow, Windsor

HF: Chandler, van Rooyen, L.Pickett

F: Fritsch, Mihocek, Melksham

FOLL: Gawn, Steele, K.Pickett

IC: Lindsay, Langdon, Sharp, Laurie, Heath

EMERG: Culley, Kentfield, Henderson

What a shocking lineup..

You want to play a key forward Van Rooyen on a ZERO goal 4 weeks? Nar not even in Noddy Land!

O.K I'm willing to drop both McDonald and van Rooyen. New Side:

B: Lever, Turner, Howes

HB: Tholstrup, Taylor, Rivers

C: Windsor, Langford, Lindsay

HF: Chandler, Mihocek, Sharp

F: Melksham, Fritsch, L.Pickett

FOLL: Gawn, Steele, K.Pickett

IC: Petty, Langdon, Sparrow, Culley, Heath

EMERG: Jefferson, Kentfield, Moniz-Wakefield

IN: Taylor, Rivers, Heath

OUT: McDonald, van Rooyen, Salem

van Rooyen has kicked 1 goal in for 4 games not zero. That is enough to get him dropped when I think about it.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
