POSTGAME: Rd 04 vs Gold Coast

Featured Replies

The joy Kozzi gets from playing right now is the reason he signed on and stayed. Credit to Goody and King and all involved with making him perform at this heightened level.

The joy he gets from feeding Trelly a goal is beautiful

And the sweetness with which he handled the little girl before the game shows his soft side

I honestly think he is the best player in the game

Entertainment plus!

Seeing Gawn rove a ground ball deep in the backline to win himself a high free kick shortly after he contested a centre bounce is just wow.

Man has no limits.

He is phenomenal. His gut running into the forward line when we had a free kick in the middle to present, mark and goal was so great to watch. Then he saves goals at the other end too. He does it in the air and on the ground feeding out handballs to runners. He is just a beast, he may not be the most naturally talented footballer I've seen at the Demons but he is the hardest working (carrying on the legacy of Jimmy Stynes) and most consistent and I would now say the best. He is the best Demon I have seen in my time (1988-present).

The journo went online & apologised. He meant to say jake melksham.

King replied as if it were Melksham, referencing taking care of his body or words to that effect.

Gawn’s comment re king giving the players freedom to play as they see fit at the time? Let footballers play football? Giving instinct priority over ‘system?’ Madness!!

Hmm. A bit more nuanced than that. Gawn clearly prefaces his remarks by saying that there's a method that they've been coached to play.

Footy is really fun again! These blokes are rocking up and doing their thing. The belief is growing by the minute, in every game. It’s brilliant to see. The even contribution we are getting is what is really impressive.

Umpire 22, Williamson, is a POS. Has been umpiring that way against us for years. Couldn’t even hide his blatant bias today. Must be on the nepo baby payroll

Uppppaaa the Deeeees!

Correct, Kayo is Geoblocked.

Won't work outside of Australia unless you use a VPN. And even then...

Just finished watching kings presser & the match highlights.

Gee the Suns players at times were demonstrative with each other

Yep super evident at the ground.

We pulled apart their defensive structure and made it really hard for them to transition the ball and enter 50 cleanly. And they were gettimg very frustrated

Make that 191 points. Yes, I was there in 1979. No, I still haven't got over our 190 point drubbing by Fitzroy. Fitzroy FFS!

I was at that game at the Junction Oval. It was my initiation as a six year old. 😄

I wonder if Matthew Lloyd thinks were still a 'poor side'.

What a peanut

Has blown me away this year with his consistency, I thought he would never make it but he is really playing his role well.

King is playing to the players strengths! You can definitely see it in Sharp and Sparrow as two examples.

You might need to use a change geolocation extension/add on to your browser

It was at Waverley. Your scarring goes deeper than you realise. 😁

King cruelled their game plan and our constant pressure to shut off their handball chains was first class.

A watch on our defence. They struggled to get body on body a fair bit which makes it hard when you're against a tall fwd line.

But it mids were simply amazing and ran all day

Brilliant game to watch

You can use a VPN with Kayo but you can't channel it through Melbourne or Sydney. I've had success using Adelaide.

First of all, I would like to thank everyone giving a like or clap. Thank you.

I agree with everyone's comments. It is good and refreshing watching the Demons play. Players seem to have confidence with each other and playing a brand of football that is wonderful to watch. More than likely there will be hiccups during the season but they seem to be a team learning and adapting on the fly.

As it has been mentioned we are slow first quarter, but King always makes adjustments and the cogs slot in and all is well. I am not sure if he makes the adjustments on individual players or adapts to the opposition. Whatever the case king makes the right decisions.

Hoping we continue with the same game plan and we beat Essendon and Richmond and shake up Brisbane in between. Hope yes. Over confidence and lack of opposition respect can be suicidal.

At the start of the year, I told a life member that I was confident this year. Maybe not win the flag but have a great season.

Go the Demons.

I wonder if Steven king is even surprised by how well we are going & it's clicked so far.

But gee it feels good to wake up Monday morning with another good win.

It's also nice to hear parts of the media talk about the exciting footy we're playing

He’s a slow learner, like his club!

My bad, my memory was from '77. Not as big a thrashing but not great...

And it is a VERY good public holiday morning to my fellow Demonlanders, as I sit with my drip-filtered coffee to revel in the unbeatable feeling of the Dees playing well and winning, while both Blues and Bummers lost. Noice Garry!!

Two things come to mind in the fresh air of this morning:

  1. Does anyone know of any injuries out of yesterday's game?

  2. There is now genuine pressure on for spots. Heath, Jeffo and Luker played strong games at Casey yesterday. Viney, Jiath, Fritsch, Rivers and Bowey all looming in the background to return at some time this year. Bailey Laurie played a fair game yesterday.

Ibjust love how all of the fringe / young players look like best 23 players under this new system.

Still pumped by that performance, ferocious at the ball and our tackling was as good as it gets. We are tough and determined. I thought checkers influence early was a good indicator that got us going. The influence of checker and Steele is awesome at bargain basement cost. Melky, what a leader for the young lads to learn from, I really do wish he gets the ultimate reward, wouldn’t he love to hold the cup at that restaurant! 😜

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
