My 3 word player analysis V Carlton

Featured Replies

Gawn - certainly never surrendered

Lever - back to reliable

Steele - was always steady

Chandler - tried but limited

K Pickett - prolific and exceptional

McDonald - confident and steady

Jiath - poor before injury

Lindsay - had some influence

Langford - needed more involvement

Sparrow - great third quarter

Windsor - important but restricted

Langdon -valuable hard running

Culley - very limited skills

Salem - rarely appeared safe

Fritsch - some exciting touches

Howes - was generally safe

Mihocek - had few opportunities

Sharp - pace helped occasionally

L Pickett - couldn’t get going

Petty - game to forget

Cross - one memorable possession

van Rooyen - what’s going wrong?

Tholstrup - excellent after first

Chandler has turned into a super reliable player. No superstar, but plays his role and generally makes good decisions.

Harsh critique I reckon.

On reflection, I was probably a bit hard on Chandler, and revise my review to :

Excellent last quarter

Good correction joeboy

I think you were a bit hard on Chandler.

Understandable joeboy just jumped off the scenic railway at Luna Park. From Woeful to wonderful in one ride. Thought Jai Culley contributed positively to the team performance. Quick and strong enough to bring down Captain Cripps with tackle of the match. Agree never going to be a star, but can see him cashing in on the next series of Tradie underdaks advertisements.

What's gone wrong with Roo? Check the delivery in the first half into the forward line, then he rucked. Can't get the lock of the ice-cream every week.

hopefully a few of our boys have turned a corner and got a bit of confidence from the second half (langford, lindsay, sparrow in particular). they are good enough, just need to believe they are. sparrow fumbled terribly all around the ground but was great from the centre square in the second half.

our forward line was a bit of a mess today. all on top of eachother. miochek moved away from what he did in round one and the others didn't lead to space. back to old habits. they are fit though!

Chandler - solid game today

Paddy Cross - overwhelmed at times

Culley - an underrated game

Fritsch - still very mercurial

Gawn - greatest ever ruckman

Howes - a composed game

CJ - poor until injury

Langdon - getting run back

Langford - better second half

Lever - fantasic after 1st

Lindsay - yet to settle (to AFL pace)

TMAC - rock of Gibraltar

Mihocek - not his best

Petty - back to Casey

Kozzie - simply a freak

Latrelle - back to Casey

Salem - lost his confidence

Sharp - growing in confidence

Sparrow - Best. Game. Ever.

Steele - a true teammate

Tholstrup - had last laugh

JVR - another quiet game

Windsor - still needs composure

King - fix first quarters

Best game I’ve seen from sparrow. Stood up when we needed him!

True, but one Sparrow doesn't make a summer!! 🤣

I saw a bloke I didn't recognise before that 'one memorable possession' handball in congestion to Chandler to kick a snap goal. Welcome to the club Paddy

Cross - one memorable possession

Had some great contributions in the last with his contest...both in the air and on the ground that brought the ball out to our runners.

Harsh on Cross done some nice things. Very harsh on Culley was superb in the last quarter.

Culley - very limited skills

You let yourself down with this one… don’t rush, take a deep breath and think! Culley is an elite kick, can get up there for a good grab, and is tough in the clinches… I could go on but I’m stopping to breathe!

Can he be the inside midfielder we need? We have Steele while Kossie and Windsor are more outside. Sparrow usually has defensive roles and they finally unleashed him and we saw what he could do. First time in a long time he has had over 25 disposals.

B: Lever, McDonald, Salem

HB: Lindsay, Petty, Howes

C: Langford, Sparrow, Culley

HF: Chandler, van Rooyen, K.Pickett

F: Fritsch, Mihocek, Cross

FOLL: Gawn, Steele, Windsor

IC: Tholstrup, L.Pickett, Sharp, Langdon, Rivers

EMERG: Laurie, Heath, Moniz-Wakefield

You’re referring to his capabilities generally, whereas I’m referring to his performance yesterday, which is the point of this exercise.

I thought so too. Even crashing packs at times.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
