The inconsistencies are well above "the not paid enough" mild synopsis.

I certainly wouldn’t want their job, knowing the abuse they cop.

Im sure this has been answered - last time a Dee kicked six was 2021 GF?

Round 20 2023 vs Richmond. He kicked most of them at the city end and I was sitting in level 3 Ponsford to watch a masterclass in forward marking and set shot goal kicking. I really thought we finally had the key forward we needed but he was injured a few games later and then Melky went down in the final home and away. And that was about it for our premiership chances.

Petty looked like a genuine full forward that day.

Didn't take long for the Master of Deflection to show up...listening to SEN this morning and the Saints are now claiming that a virus swept through the whole team last week. Ross the Boss is a master of this [censored]. What a bunch of bulltish.

What was Langfords role yesterday? Barely sighted, seen jogging from contest to contest.. Saw he only had 9 touches. Granted one was a beautiful pass, but I remember early last year he was dropped for lacking intensity, and it appeared to be similar yesterday.

Agreed, looked under the weather

I agree that was a bad decision, but I doubt it was deliberately called because we are the MFC.

No but the effect is the same. There are 4 umpires out there and not one saw it, beggars belief.

Was a good win first up. We need to improve our defence , giving away 15 goals is too much. It is going to see how Viney can make it back to the seniors if Steele is doing well.

Kentfield , AMw and Taylor will be pushing for senior selection in the near future which is good to have decent back ups.

Has any heard how Dersken (Blues) , Yze and Sestan are going. All three probably unlucky not to be playing AFL , perhaps coaches killed their careers ?

he went in a couple times when kolt followed nas down forward. seemed more like a quick replacement then a sign of things to come

Wouldn't be surprised if AMW came in for Swallow and Lindsay had more time CBA (centre bounce). He looked much better there than in defence and having a lefty gives more options. Against that, dropping Swallow after one game is a bit harsh.

Swallow might do more than we notice, however has not gone to the level expected. To my eye he is inconsistent and now regarded a senior player.

I always find Gary Lyon's weekly MVP players on AFL 360 interesting.

This year he's expanded it from the best 3 players to the best 5 players of the week.

Interesting that he gave Naughton votes but not JVR despite both kicking 6.

However I'm glad that he gave Max 4 votes as he had a tendency without fail last year to give a Melbourne oppo the 3, 2 or 1.

You know the old saying, one swallow does not make a Sparrow

In one of Roo’s earlier goals, he and Mihocek started leading at the same ball. Mihocek aborted mission and blocked his opponent out Roo took the grab virtually uncontested.

I honestly could have cried with joy. Forwards who don’t interfere with each other. What a concept.

Just want to highlight how Mihochek was also shepherding Latrelle which is why he had time to change direction and slot his goal. This is the standard I expect.

Winners are grinners, right?

Nobody ever gets beaten by the opposition - it's the umpires, the weather, a virus, the bus was late, a short week, a long week, we had a bye, they had a bye, the boots had the wrong studs etc etc etc (think John Belushi to Carrie Fisher in the Blues Brothers).

Let the baby have it's rattle.

Loved that moment but I think it's a little sobering reminder about how the Saints were not clinical at all on Sunday. They repeatedly burned players in better positions and in situations like that (a 3v1) they didn't work through it in a way to make sure theres a shot on goal.

Against better teams (Brisbane, GC, Geelong etc) we will be punished. And I want to say, that's ok. We are still developing who we are as a team and we are playing a more attacking style, this will lead to more scenarios like this.

That said, Petty was enormous in that moment, it's one thing to be let in to be able to stop it, but to be able to beat those three men was as good as a goal.

He will be very much the 'quieter' achiever ... but am sure he gets that.

A very astute acquisition

Roos first mark and goal was created by him putting the intelligent block on. We haven't had someone like him (except maybe Melk) in the forward line to help Roo in his development.

We've gone from bringing zero players in through trade of value in the previous 3-4 years (though Sharpe might come good under a new coach), to getting three in one hit.

Possibly four Pates I believe Moose will be a keeper as well.

Langford had a very quiet game. Watched him closely on the replay and he was cruising.

hmmm. Young player but I hope the coaches have a word

I wonder if last season goody just ran out of ideas or plans.

I mean he never played van rooyen consistently & he'd put him in the ruck, petty he kept forward & he never gave koltyn much of a go.

I mean I'll be grateful for the journey he took us on & I know it's just 1 game, but maybe the breakup came at the right time.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
