Steven May playing forward. What a revelation

People on this very forum suggested this only around 1900 times.

I reckon if he didn’t have the issues that the club clearly moved him on for, he would have been a great forward. Always a very reliable kick.

Maysie played his first game for East Ringwood. Played as a forward and kicked 4.3

He's already beaten in one game the amount of goals he kicked for the dees in 7 seasons.

Lucky i read this one, because I was about to say the same thing... Lord knows, we have been crying out for a contested mark on the forward line.

Sure as heck know JVR and Jefferson won’t mark it.

He kicked 2 goals, not 4, he also set a few up. I believe his is playing forward temporarily and may move to the backline as the season progresses.

In all fairness, I’m not sure that 2 or even 3 goals for Ringwood East would translate to much in the AFL.

He kicked 3.4 I believe (?) I wasn’t there, I’m only going by what a spectator told me.

JVR wouldn’t kick any.

I guess the point being that he was never tried there...

Fair point.

Imagine rock'in up to play full back for the Sth Croydon Bulldogs on a pleasant Satdee arvo and the coach says, "Giddy Johno, just lett'in ya know, you're standing Stephen May today".

Forward or a Backman not sure that the difference for his opponent would be markedly different.

One of our best backmen of all time

"Can't believe we didn't play him fwd"

Oooookay then

Similarly to when Jake Lever finds himself with a shot on goal, I was never convinced that May was actually going to kick one when he had a set shot. To be fair, they were typically from about or outside 50. So I was always comfortable with playing a bloody good full back at full back.

Does anyone remember when they used to show the EFL on Channel 31 in the mid 2000s?

They had the best theme song that I still randomly get in my head to this day. I’d love to be able to find it but something that was on community television 20 years ago which had 15 viewers a week is probably beyond even the internet’s reach.

The Local Footy Show

These blokes ? I think they're still going in some form. There's a Facebook page that you can check out

Heard via a podcast, via Max, what was said to Max at the end of the pies game last year. Might be that many others have heard the story and I missed it.

I can see why trouble follows him

Another thing I found interesting Max said was he hasn’t seen him or spoken to him since he came into the club to do his retirement speech (which was never posted by the club I don’t recall?). Wishes him well and he was happy for both parties to make the decision for him to part ways. Club can focus and May could focus on his family. Unsure if he also spoke about this on the podcast.

Very possible, will have a look thanks Biff.

This particular theme song went something like: "Let's go to the EFL, the EFL, the EFLelel..."

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
