Based on the team selection for today’s Match Sim vs North Melbourne, it would appear that only two MFC listed players - Oscar Berry and Riley Onley - were available and not selected. The rest are mostly injured or managed as follows:

Jake Bowey (foot)

Tom Campbell (neck)

Jai Culley (arm)

Max Gawn (managed)

Jack Henderson (back/sacrum)

Aidan Johnson (hamstring)

Shane McAdam (Achilles)

Tom Matthews (knee)

Steven May (personal leave)

Jake Melksham (managed)

Andy Moniz-Wakefield (knee)

Harry Petty (concussion protocol)

Jack Viney (Achilles)

Kalani White (glandular fever)

Of that list who’s a chance to get back for round 1?

Gawn, Melksham, Petty, Culley maybe? AMW maybe?

Get Gawn, Culley and Melksham in and I’m not sure Petty is ahead of TMac right now and that’s a pretty good team. Bowey’s absence hurts the most, Viney a close second. I don’t think TC, Hendo, McAdam, Johnston, Matthews, White are in our best so they’re hurting our depth, development and Casey more than best 22 and we looked better with McDonald ahead of May last year so maybe that’s not so bad.

All in all if we get those 4 players back for round one I reckon we’re looking pretty good. Saints will be tough but they are also great chokers and were young and an unknown quantity with King at this stage.

If they’re great chokers, what are we 😂

That is shocking news for a bloke who really needs to prove himself worthy of a list spot.

Terrible timing and bad luck for the young lad.

Also concerned for the well-being of Mr P Fence. Someone needs to check in on him....

He makes it sound like Jefferson has been the chief key forward ahead of JVR and everyone else. Jefferson out means little he has never been above poor at senior level. And these guys get paid to write this [censored].

Hahaha yeah I thought that was a weird way to put it. JVR has played over 50 games and Jeffo like 5

Oh PERFUUURG NO, CHEEZUS H CARRYYST

🥴😵😵‍💫🤯

I think I may have developed a really personal vendetta against whoever invented foot stress injuries.

An awful injury that seems to always find awful timing.

I am digesting this news with a few glug glugs to dull the pain...

At any rate we get behind him and hope he recovers well and has an impact.... confident he will and earn another contract!!😉

Yeah but JVR Has been veeery modest in his 50 odd games other than a few excellent games has done very little!

Jinxed!

But does that depend entirely upon Steven “doing the right thing by the club” and retiring?

Just announced by Jon Ralph.

Ummm...

It was just announced by the Club, in its team selection item:

Matt Jefferson will miss the game with GM of AFL Football Performance Alan Richardson providing an update on the Demon.

“Matt has unfortunately sustained a bone stress injury in his foot,” Richardson said.

“We have taken a conservative approach and given him time to de-load.

"Once he’s had that period of rest, we will then have a clearer picture of his return to play timeline.”

No credit where no credit's due, Jon.

Shame that this couldn't have been sorted earlier, we might have been able to land Derkson.

Of course, hindsight is a wonderful thing ...

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
