I think we should pick him up for peanuts. He may start off as a defender however he could end up as a forward. So far we don't have good tall forwards. I said before don't be surprised too see May up front.

sos fkd him over for his son bottom line

i dont see us going here because of the fact we pulled out on derksen and may hasnt found a suitor, probably also with king telling everyone to get real and put petty where he belongs

also think he has a bit of the frosts about him, he runs without direction and then coughs it up either with a handball to grass or with a a kick for distance

will definitely find a home though, dons/blues/pies/dogs/roos all should be having a look eagles, swans should be asking the question

Just heard the Saints traded Marshall to Cats for SDK, hence the reason they pulled out from Aleer.

Where'd you hear that?

I don't reckon we jump at this because our tall defender stocks look OK, but perhaps as a free hit for a swingman or even train him as a forward. Good if we get him, not bothered too much if we don't.

we're probably in the market next year at least for a draftee or swinging jvr if he has a poor year. 2026 will be may and mcdonalds last and adams would be 50:50 at best to get a 5th season next year, and thats without regarding how lever's knees/ankles hold up and whether he looks to cash in on a north melbourne type deal or tries to find a flag somewhere.

Don't wish to begrudge the player. But he plays as a third tall in one of the better backlines in the comp and is regularly exposed. A player of potential sure, but not worth the figures thrown around imo.

Because he's terrible one on one and with Disco, Lever and Petty we have that role covered not to mention we have Adams, May and McDonald as key backs.

St Kilda were reportedly offering 700k a year.

Let's not blow that cash. We need to bank some up and chase mid/flanker talent and/or a quality tall who really improves us when the time is right.

Or we could match what GwS are paying him presently, add 10 per cent and try him as a forward or having him as backup at Casey developing and get a player instead of a future 3rd rounder

That’s what people said about Chol at times. How’s that worked for Hawthorn? Athletic, fast, tall athletes have X factor. Worth a punt.

I heard the same - a text was read out on SEN’s Andy & Gazey this afternoon

Tim Lamb said this morning the reason we passed on Derksen was we felt our tall talent was developing well.

it’ll be interesting if we go after Leek now.

Aside from Turner, which tall (Defensive) talent is that may i ask?

FD rate Adams. And I have an inkling King has designs for Petty back…

Mihocek makes that a real possibility now.

It's no different to what we've done with Wade Derksen. we've been chasing him for 2 years only to pull out last minute.

We weren’t paying him 900k

That excuse is BS as they could negotiate a lesser pick.

They have obviously mucked up the figures and now Marshall looks like staying and Cats have gone all out on Curnow.

Curnow is looking at tractors for his new farms and being measured by Cotton On for his new modelling role for the company.

Pettys name was left out when Lamb was discussing the tall forwards mihocek would be helping mentor. Listed all the others (Jeffo JVR kentfield and Johnson)

St Kilda seem like [censored]

Very surprising. St Kilda were talking a big game with more money and deals to come but pull the rug on this. I feel for Leek. Its a sobering situation and questions need to be asked of the club. The idea that once you nominate a club then a deal will be done is well and truly under scrutiny now.

Don't mind it, still not 100% confident Howes or Adams locks down a spot as the 3rd tall.

Howes could play as a running/mid/smaller back (only 191cm), and given he's played some wing he could be the McVee replacement. This I feel will be more natural for him, than the 3rd tall, but as a bonus he's also a good intercept mark.

Turner, Petty, Adams, Lever and Aleer are all over 194cm, so good depth with height down back, with May & McDonald likely to only be around for another season, and being real depth now. If we got Aleer it locks in our tall backs for the next 5 years.

Living in Sydney I get to a few Giants games and my view on Aleer is that he (currently) is no world beater, but he does do some things well and has upside potential.

What he does do well is spoil when free to run and jump at the ball, he is also pretty decent marking the ball when not wrestling with an opponent.

His disposal is generally ok and he is quite quick.

Personally, I'd be selecting him in our D50 before Adams who seems to have some friends in the FD but I'm far from convinced at this stage.

With petty turner and lever (if fit) likely being first choice for senior footy, leaving may McDonald and adams as cover; as well as having a cat b rookie (Oscar berry) whose favoured position is tall defender and bringing in kailani who might get some ruck minutes but also is a key defender, that’s 8 players on our list fighting for maximum 6 spots. This means week after week multiple players will be left without opportunity to play full minutes in their best position.

Really still hoping a club takes a last minute swing on May, would take nothing more than sliding a late pick up a few spots as a courtesy.

What's the word on Oscar Berry?
