A great contributor in 2021 but was struggling for impact in 22/23 before his Achilles injury derailed his 24 season

I think we need to start to move past the Spargo’s of the world for small forwards who can provide defensive pressure whilst also hitting the scoreboard

We’ll always need those high half forwards but the best of them manage to snag a few goals while getting upwards of 15 possies a game - something Spargo unfortunately hasn’t done for a while now

Well called DD.

I like Spargs. He's shown flashes of brilliance over the years but he doesn't quite do enough at AFL level.

Doesn't kick enough goals as a small forward, doesn't get enough of the ball for a half-forward/mid.

I'll be interested to see if the new coach has him in his plans or not.

I like Spargo but know he needs to improve aspects of his game,
Imagine the compensation won't be too flash, and we're in a diluted draft anyway.

At least he's ticked off the 100 Game father/son option.

Matter is complicated by the lack of coach at the moment.

I don't think he'll be a big loss either.

Writing on the wall really. Opportunities will not be massive should he stay ( imho )

Best of luck Spargypants 👍

Spargo at one end, Daniel at the other. North the land of the slow, short guys who kick ok

A permanent forward who has kicked 1 goal in 10 games this year. Supposedly a wonderful kick inside 50, but he only has 4 goal assists in those 10 games.

I genuinely don't understand what his role is meant to be, but surely he can't be performing it to the level expected.

No doubt he played an important part in 2021 but, like most of his teammates, he has gone significantly backwards since.

The best thing for both player and club would be for him to find a new home at year end, likely as a delisted free agent.

Bump this!

Charlie Spargo and pick 23 for Zane Duursma sounds okay.

North wouldn't let him go cheeply, but JT rates him extremely highly, he's got connections with the MFC and he clearly wants a better situation for himself.

apologies i didn't realise he was a free agent. perhaps insert name here instead.

maybe Steven May might appeal to North?

Spargo is an unrestricted free agent, they don’t have to trade for him

Unfortunately North wouldn’t have to trade for Spargo as he’s an UFA

Sounds like a good move from the Dees, an offer we are happy to give, and he is welcome to explore if he wants more $$ or opportunity elsewhere. This is the type of player that we don't need to be chasing after. Offer his worth, and no more.

He will get a longer, higher contract at North which we won’t compete with

We wont need to compete.

There is a standard offer on the table and and the club won't budge any further from that.

More $$$ and better opportunities to travel at North.

If he can get his body right, will be a valuable acquisition for Norf. Their good mids are weak defensively and run forward of the ball. Spargypants goes some way to addressing this problem.

that’s sorta what I was saying

And will tower over Caleb Daniel

Charlie keeps his footy alive

Free spot on our list

Win-Win

Spargo getting a 4yr deal after 2021 shows the level of our list management in competence. Delist and let him list clog somewhere else.

He signed a 3 year contract extension in mid 2022.

I do think Spargo has really high footy IQ and io can see why he'd appeal elsewhere, it's hard to make these decisions without a coach though, of our final 6 prospects, how many of them rate Charlie and would want him to stay and how many would be happy with a compensation pick and money off the books?

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
