weird way to spell kuzzy

Sounds too much like Kozzie. When we adoringly chant for a player like the psychos we are we’d prefer folks to know for whom we chant 😜

I can hear us now…

Big risks can have big returns

Correct that he hasn't been fortunate enough to have been playing Coates league but there are quite a few examples of players taken from other pathways that have proven more than capable at AFL level

These kids all mature at differing rates, the opportunities presented may be quite different based on a whole range of factors

He is still very young, but I like the fact he has been playing against mature aged players albeit at a lower level

Get him into our system, get the right people around him (coaching, conditioning and players) and hopefully he will be another diamond in the rough

One of the greatest raw talents we have ever seen at the MFC was plucked from obscurity - anyone remember that bloke from Yuendumu Magpies (Liam Jurrah)

I absolutely rate clubs who take a 'risk' on young players, particularly Indigenous, who don't have the opportunity to tread the private school pathways in cities huge distances away from home and family. They have it so much harder in many ways. There's countless kids in corners of the country who have exceptional skills and potential, but will probably never get an opportunity.

Can someone please advise on the following?

  1. How many players with indigenous backgrounds are now on our playing list? It's at least 5 (May, Pickett x2, McAdam, Mentha). Any others?

  2. Is 5 (or whatever the current number is) the most we've ever had on our playing list?

In 2009 we had 6 from indigenous backgrounds (Wheels, Flash, Jurrah, Jetta, Bennell and Wonaeamirri).

Having looked at all the midfielders thinking we would be looking for replacements for 5 & 13, I was somewhat surprised by Lattrelle’s choice at Pick 12 but now realise that we are on a rebuild, our backline looks pretty damn good with the addition of XT and CJ.

Whereas we have a distinct lack of mid to small forwards to back up the young talls coming through. So a big Welcome to Latrelle Sumner-Pickett another exciting young forward coming into the fold. I am really looking forward to seeing Latrelle, Kozzie, Chandler and now Mathews sharpening us up in our fwd 50. Wahooo.👍😁💕

Hmm after a bit of thought and a look at his stats it appears he is a late developer or lack of oppurntitues. I am hopeful more than confident.

So we draft Latrelle who looks like he’s at least 30.

Then we draft Matthews who looks like he’s 13.

Go figure 🤷

One thing that I think is a positive for Latrelle is he played 3 games for Norwood under 18’s in 2023 and he had:

15 disp, 2.2 goals

18 disp, 1 goal

14 disp, 2.1 goals

So if you average that out it’s 16 disposals, 1.6 goals.

Thats with a late December birthday and without continuity of footy. Plus who knows what he was up to with his personal life.

If he continued that form across a full season (and had all the talent and highlights) he would’ve been drafted high in 2023.

They perhaps don't select on looks?
